Edit: Hey everybody, since this post got a blue response, try to keep it on topic. Instead of asking questions about the feature, use this post to explore what you would like the feature to encompass. What request do you have of the upcoming Transmogrification and Void Storage?

Original Post:
Please reconsider the ability for Void Storage to retain gems and enchants on items. As you yourselves mentioned this new feature encourages the retaining of gear for various reasons and I feel that gems and enchants are integral to the flavor of an item. It shows that a character either got the item when it was current content and used it, or at least cared enough to go out and gather the authentic materials necessary.

Secondly, consider changing the ability of Transmogrification from altering the appearance of a piece of gear to a slot. Right now we would be paying a fee for each new piece of armor we get. This is in addition to reforging, gems, and enchants we already have to pay. Personally I find it a hassle to have to do the current 3 things to each piece price aside, but having to pay to match is a killer. Also, while we may be using this to bridge the gap between sets, once the new set is acquired we would have to transmogrify every piece again. Although I don't have a solution to this problem currently.

Thirdly, currently you cannot change an item from one armor type to another. However, many items are ambiguous in their armor type from their model. In addition, many classes wore different armor types up until level 40. Please consider tweaking your stance on this issue. For many characters who RP wearing a hood instead of a helmet or wearing mail instead of plate could greatly enhance their playing experience.

Thank you for your time.

P.S. Feel free to combine this with any other thread. There were too many to know where this might fit in as most were questions on the feature or discussion on what items people would want to use.

Additional Requests:
Bows, crossbows and guns will be able to be mogged and they don't even share the same animation. Request: allow 1h axes, maces, and swords to mog regardless of type because of the lack of any talents or abilities that are based upon the weapon type and the shared attack animations.

Allow for the creation of "suits" or "costumes" similarly to the creation of equipment sets with the current equipment manager. It could work something like this: once the items are assembled for a set, we'll use the example of 8 pieces of tier 2, then those 8 pieces collectively are mogged into the current set of equipped gear. Allow the 8 pieces to be saved as a "costume" so that when you acquire a new set of gear you can go to the mogger and pay to have the previously assembled costume applied to the new gear all at once for the appropriate price. This way, even if I want to pay the fee every time, I can switch between saved "costumes" in one click without having to put each item into the mogger individually. This could also allow the mogging to take place without changing the status of the gear (which could then remain in the bank or void storage).

it is a gold sink, with how easy it is t make gold this is pretty much needed for it to cost each time you change.

As stated by Lorkanthal, it is supposed to be a gold sink. If you want to have the luxury of wearing your pally T2 set all the time rather than your boring T12 gear, then you are going to have to pay for that luxury. Its not like you will be naked if you decide to not use it. You will just have to hang out with us normal folks who won't have our gear changed.

And the reason they are making the void bank thing the way they are is, so you will still have to make choices on what gear you want to use for the current tiers. They don't want you to have your PvE dps, tank, healing set, and PvP dps, heal, tank sets all in the void bank, so you can switch it out willy nilly. They would rather have you use it for your old vanity gear that you still like the look of, or have some attachment to, but won't be wearing it for its stats anymore.

Part of this is due to technical limitations. One of the reasons we're able to offer so many more slots of storage to players now is because it's fairly simple data storage when we're talking item IDs. Throw in enchants, gems, and reforging though, and you have a lot more data that has to be stored. Void Storage is a means of deep storage. We don't want this system to be used as a secondary bank where you're constantly shuffling items in and out. If you have an abundance of items which are eligible for placing in Void Storage, the idea is you can store them "long-term" to free up bank space without having to delete them.

It's perfect for seasonal outfits, items you think look really cool, etc. It's the place to put the gear you just don't want to delete, but don't regularly use either. If we just gave you 80 more bank slots -- which is a monumental technical task as I said earlier -- we'd have to consider nominating you for "Hoarders: World of Warcraft Edition."

It would be nice to have gems and enchants remain but we have to take this as a step in the right direction.

Although I wonder if they could make it so items below ilvl X retain gems/enchants to avoid us putting in any current gear.

I knew it was because of this the second I read it. Because of what you explained with the removal of the keyring.

It's hard to take "more data that has to be stored" seriously as a reason when I get almost 10GB of high-availability indexed storage for free from Google, and get a bill for 7 cents per month for several hundred megabytes of very high availability, high redundancy, ultra-high bandwidth distributed storage on AWS.

Seriously this doesn't even begin to pass the laugh test. If this is a reason that people use as an excuse in development meetings you need to hire some engineers who've worked in the 21st century.
Just because space is available, that doesn't mean your programmers should TRY to code corpulent data (yes, I just invoked the word "corpulent").

Not only this, but what about future features that need data to store information?

Also, your comparison to Google's services is just for you, one person. Blizzard has millions of accounts to make this for. 10 gigabytes times 11 million is 104 petabytes of storage. Yikes.

This is the actual play balance related reason. Why don't you just say so.

Google makes SOOOOO much more money than Blizzard Entertainment does. They can afford to have petabytes of storage.

But...but...
Fine. I admit it, I am a hoarder of bikini gear. I guess I'll just never have free bank space. :(

An Item ID is a .txt document with 5 bytes-worth of text inside of it. I don't see how this constitutes as a storage issue.
