Class Feedback - Hunter

This thread is intended to continue the Class Feedback thread Blizzard started, which has now overfilled. Please post your responses to the Class Feedback thread here.
Here is my own post on Class Feeedback In January 2011, shortly after Cataclysm was released, I published a compendium of ideas on how to improve hunter abilities, which generated a broad discussion in the hunter community and got more than 500 replies. Although I no longer support ALL of the ideas presented there, most of them remain very valid, as are ideas presented by others in the thread, because hunters really haven’t changed much in recent patches. I’d encourage you to take a look at it here: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1920715825 It has been my intention to do a full update on that thread, refining the ideas presented there, but I haven’t yet had the time for that big of a project. So instead I’ll respond with a few key ideas to your primary questions in this thread. What type of content do you focus on? [PvE/PvP/Both] I do a lot of PVE and PVP, in all specs. Lately I’m most focused on PVP due to limited time and an unpredictable schedule, but I still do some PVE too. If PvE, what type of PvE? [Heroics/Raids/Other] Raids, Heroics, and Soloing older content If PvP, what type of PvP? [Arenas, BGs, Rated BGs] Extensive Arena, BGs, and Rated BGs. Pretty high rating (1900ish) in Arena and RBGs, and over 100,000 kills in BGs. What are your biggest quality-of-life issues? Honestly there are a host of clunky hunter abilities that need improved coding or design, which I outlined in my older post. Hunters need MUCH better abilities to resurrect pets. Ideally, allow the hunter to call a new pet when the current pet dies. Also, greatly shorten the rez time on pets, and consider making an instant pet rez available with a long cooldown (Heart of the Phoenix as a baseline hunter ability, rather than a pet ability). Hunter CC is far too difficult to successfully use in PVP, and is too easily broken or avoided. Hunters can’t do anything useful or interesting in melee range. This needs fixed, although I actually don’t support the flat out removal of minimum range (I’ll explain more later). Cobra Shot and Steady Shot don’t work well in PVP. For an excellent article on this, and some good proposed solutions, see here: http://outdps.com/2011/08/01/why-is-focus-allegedly-broken-in-pvp My preferred option is for Cobra and Steady to generate focus continually as the cast bar progresses, rather than when the ability lands. This allows focus regen even against targets who go out of line of sight, or who are missed/immune by the ability, which is a major problem in PVP. Note also that these shots should be slowed by debuffs that slow physical attack speed, but NOT by abilities that slow casting time, since hunters aren’t casters and getting both of these debuffs completely destroys the hunter’s ability to function at all. Aspect of the Hawk and Aspect of the Fox don’t make for a terribly interesting duo. I’d like to see Aspect of the Fox be more useful overall: perhaps add a bonus to dodge, as Aspect of the Monkey used to have? What makes playing your class more fun? Fix broken and clunky mechanics, and do whatever it takes to make hunters viable in competitive PVP. Hunters have been dead last in Arena nearly every season since WoW began. How do you feel about your “rotation”? The rotation for all 3 hunter specs are conceptually fine, but need some fixes. BM rotation needs a fix to Kill Command. My preferred fixes are to either: Have Kill Command cause the pet to instantly leap (charge) into range of the target and deliver the Kill Command. This would also help BM keep their pet on target more. OR Have Kill Command be a buff on the pet, lasting until the pet is in range to deliver it (like Intimidation currently works) BM also needs improvement to the talent “Killing Streak”. At the very least, extend the duration of Killing Streak to give is a bigger window of opportunity. Preferably, have Killing Streak proc an instant and free of focus Kill Command (potentially without the damage bonus if required for balance). MM rotation has too narrow of a window for Improved Steady Shot. Extend the duration of this buff by a few seconds to allow flexibility. MM also needs Master Marksman to have a 100% proc rate for a buff. The randomness here is just annoying. SV rotation is good, but is easily broken in PVP by dispelling Black Arrow. Make Black Arrow undispellable. SV also needs some more interesting offensive cooldowns that can be used on demand for burst DPS. To be continued... |

What’s on your wish list for your class?
A complete, well designed overhaul, as I outlined here in January: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1920715825 To pick a few favorites: Melee range needs an overhaul, and should interact with Focus. I suggest making two abilities: 1. Raptor Strike should generate considerable focus 2. Counterattack should be an ability available to all hunters, and should do high damage and a stun or knockback effect, and apply the slow effect currently from Wing Clip. However, Counterattack should COST focus and have a moderate cooldown. Overall, melee damage should be comparable (90%?), of ranged damage, but obviously leaving the hunter exposed to melee attacks. A simple two-button rotation (raptor and counterattack) would make keep hunters from having to learn an entirely separate rotation for melee range. I think this melee solution would be more interesting for hunters than just removing minimum range. Hunters are lacking in self-heals, and are vulnerable to DOTs. I think a stronger healing component should be added to the signature shot of each spec. BM should heal upon each Kill Command, MM should get a stronger heal for Chimaera, and SV should get a steady life drain from Black Arrow. Bring the healing for each spec up to par with the healing abilities of other DPS classes. I’d like to see a DOT cleanse added to Master’s Call. Master’s call could maintain its current effect, and also transfer all harmful effects from the target to the pet. This emphasizes the critical role of the pet, and doesn’t totally eliminate DOTs but puts them where the hunter can deal with them with Mend Pet. Hunter Defenses are uninteresting. Mostly I’d like to see Deterrence gain a 100% reflect rate against all attacks, causing enemy players to be cautious to avoid attacking during Deterrence, and allowing some interesting opportunities to reflect damage against bosses in PVE. Disengage needs a better way to deal with uneven terrain, and needs to be fixed so hunters aren’t treated as if they were standing still until they land (currently hunters able to be hit by melee or fire on the ground even while flying through the air). Potentially make all attacks versus hunters miss while they’re in the air. Hunter CC is FAR weaker than what is available to all other classes in PVP. Trap Launcher is far too difficult to use in PVP, when compared to the CC abilities of any other class. Reworking this ability so that it can be targeted somehow is key. I suggest having it land at the feet of where the targeted unit was when it was fired. The arming time of traps also needs to be removed if they are to be effective. Freezing Trap is too easily broken. Give it the ability to “freeze” any dots on the target so they don’t advance until the trap breaks. Consider also giving Freezing Trap a damage threshold in which it absorbs any damage done against the target up to a max of X damage. Honestly I think one of the best solutions to hunter CC is to make Wyvern Sting available to all specs. It’s a more functional ability, and has good hunter “flavor”. Giving hunters a functional freezing trap/launcher and wyvern sting would give us enough CC to ALMOST be on par with other classes that can chain CC forever. Increase the duration of Intimidation. As BMs only offensive CC, the duration is too short, and many other classes have much better stuns as a baseline. I’d also like to see a damage component added to Intimidation so that it has some use in PVE. I’d suggest having it allow the pet and hunter to bypass the target’s armor for the duration of the stun (giving BM more ability to deal with plate classes, as well). You’d need to rename the ability, which already has a name that makes no sense, to something like “Savage Rend”. If you make Wyvern Sting a baseline ability, come up with something else for SV. Perhaps a very short stun (1-2sec) and/or a short knockback with each Explosive Shot? Traps: Traps are mostly just not interesting. I’d increase the damage of Explosive and Snake Traps, but have them cost focus. Freezing Trap I already discussed. I’d love to see “Bear Trap” implemented. This was discussed by Blizz back before WotLK. Instant damage and a stun/root, with a bleed and slow effect after escaping. Functionally useful for hunters, and conceptually fitting. This should cost focus since it does damage. Hunter Talent Trees need some serious cleaning up. For more on this, again go to my older post: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1920715825 |

What spells do you use the least?
Widow Venom: This is simply not worth using. Fold the 10% healing reducition effect into Serpent Sting, which needs some utility in addition to its fairly weak DPS. Remove Widow Venom from the game. Aspect of the Wild: Make this increase resistance to all “wild” elements: nature, fire, and frost. Consider adding a healing component to this so it slowly heals the hunter. Aspect of the Cheetah/Pack: The daze effect is simply too much here. Consider having each strike reduce the hunter’s focus by 10, and if focus hits zero THEN the daze effect kicks in. So with Aspect of the Pack, if the whole team got hit by something, the hunter would go to zero focus and a bunch of people would get dazed. I’m open to any other solution here, but do something about this. It’s too much penalty for not enough benefit, and consequently is almost never a good option. If nothing else, simply reduce the run speed bonus slightly (to 20%?) and remove the daze effect. Tranquilizing Shot: It IS useful, but the focus cost is too much. Reduce it to 10. Snake Trap: Honestly my favorite trap for hunters, conceptually. Need to dramatically increase the damage and health of snakes to make this trap matter, and have snakes have a 100% chance to apply the movement and casting speed venoms. Immolation Trap: This would need to do a lot more damage to be useful, but even then it’s not interesting. I’d prefer to see this removed and replace with Bear Trap, as described above. Ice Trap: Yes, I use this some, but I’d rather not, because it shares a cooldown with Freezing Trap. I’d love to see this trap removed, and have the AOE slow effect covered by a vastly more effective snake trap, which I think is more interesting anyway, but is currently redundant. Traps Summary: Buff Snake Trap, improve Freezing Trap, add Bear Trap, keep Explosive Trap. Remove Immolation and Ice Traps. This would make for 4 different types of traps, all useful and interesting, with no need for shared cooldowns. Apply a focus cost if necessary to compensate for generally more effective traps. Remove arming time on all traps. Improve functionality of trap launcher. So, this has gotten to be very long, filling several posts. I hope you find it useful. I may still try to do an updated version of my older post, http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1920715825 at some point in the future, if that seems like it would help. Kazador |

Ice Trap, previously named "Frost Trap", is an AOE slow. I'd rather see the AOE slow covered by Snake Trap, which is more interesting, and could be buffed to fill this role well. Then we wouldn't have Ice Trap and Freeze Trap sharing the same cooldown, which many have said is a big problem.
It's not a big deal really, but seems like an improvement. Other things I presented here are more central to making hunters function better and be more fun. Focus on those if you're addicted to your Ice Trap ;) |

What type of content do you focus on? [PvE/PvP/Both]
Both If PvE, what type of PvE? [Heroics/Raids/Other] Dungeons, raids, heroics If PvP, what type of PvP? [Arenas, BGs, Rated BGs] Arenas / BGs What are your biggest quality-of-life issues? For instance, no longer requiring ammo could be considered a quality-of-life improvement for hunters. The biggest quality issue I have is that the pet doesn't work properly. The Nef fight is a great example of the pet not working properly. -The pet appearing without all of it's life bar and getting one-shotted -The pet won't follow the hunter off of a ledge, instead walks through all MOBs down stairs etc. PLEASE MAKE THE PET FOLLOW THE HUNTER. -The bug where the pet ability bar doesn't show up after I get off of my mount. -The stances are terrible, I find the pet standing around too often or at times getting confused as to what target to attack. PvP - Need to beef up some of the counter abilities (more on that below) What makes playing your class more fun? PETS!!! What makes playing your class less fun? -Pet bugs -Awful trap launcher mechanic -Master's call won't always work when rooted in PvP -Camoflauge can't be used as the Rogue's ability. -Feign death can't trick other players in PvP. -Kill Command should ALWAYS hit in PvP for whatever reason I have to hit the button 3 or 4 times to get it to hit the target. It should behave as an issued command to the pet, where the pet will follow/sprint to the enemy until it hits with kill command. How do you feel about your “rotation”? (Rotation is the accepted order in which abilities are used to maximum efficiency.) Rotation is good. I love beast mastery, it's by far the best spec. What’s on your wish list for your class? -Fix traps. Some ideas --Allow traps to be 'magnetized' so if I launch a trap at a target it hits the target 100%. Or --Just add trap arrows... Fire Arrow, Ice Arrow, Snake Arrow etc. Traps are far too easy to avoid. This is especially annoying when getting constantly rooted by druids, rogues, mages, warriros etc.etc. --Perhaps leave the traps the way they are, but change Scatter Shot so that it WALKS THE TARGET INTO THE TRAP. THIS WOULD BE AWESOME. It would I think a way to help us out in PvP quite a bit. -Allow us to Feign Death or Camouflage ourselves out of rogue/warrior/mage roots OR --It would be awesme if feign death made it look like we were actually dead to other players. I think it's only fair. -Fix master's call so that it behaves like a trinket. The pet should always come running if the pet isn't dead. It seems that sometimes i can mash the master's call button and the bet won't break free. -PLEASE re-work kill command so the pet WILL GO HIT THE ENEMY. (especially PvP) In my opinion the pet should continue to follow / try to hit the enemy until the kill command is achieved. I shouldn't have to keep mashing the button to get it to happen. -Increase the debuff of widow's venom, and make it so it can't be dispelled. It's a HUGE pain when I'm attacking a healer, and using all of my cooldowns + pet in PvP but I can't kill them because their heals are so much better than my DPS. If widows venom was 10% more effective that would help so much, and make that a first rate ability. -With respect to hunter melee do one of two things: --MAKE IT MATTER! Our melee is fine if it's slow, but it should hit like a truck if people get too close to us. OR --GET RID OF HUNTER MELEE entirely!!!! I think this is best. Remove the hunter minimum shot distance, and remove melee. A cool idea would be to increase crit chance for close range shots, but decrease shot speed/haste. So for example if someone is close to me I can have 10% more crit so potentially could have a killshot, but since they're in my grill I shouldn't necessarily be able to shoot as fast. PvE -HUNTER TANKING!!! It would be awesome to finally be able to tank as a hunter, perhaps somewhat like the upcoming Trooper class in Star Wars the Old Republic. It looks awesome, and I'm stoked to play that class. In fact a cool idea would be if the hunter is in TANK mode you could take over the pet's perspective and the hunter just becomes the 'pet' so to speak doing dps/threat grabbing abilities. So for example switch to tank mode (BM could be like the druid's feral so I could switch between TANK/DPS stance. DPS would function as it does now with BM, but TANK stance would function with the pet as the primary character that is being controlled/played) so I could whip out a bear or turtle, start tanking it would be awesome. Maybe almost like the hunter mind controls the pet, and body at the same time. What spells do you use the least? -Beast lore, eagle eye or whatever it is, the single target flame trap |
|
I forgot to add one additional point. Having a huge portion of hunter DPS come from "Arcane Shot" is bizarre. We're supposed to be physical DPS, not casters, but a lot of our DPS is Arcane?
I propose replacing Arcane Shot with Piercing Shot. Have Piercing Shot ignore armor. This would mean the same damage, and the same focus cost as Arcane Shot. Other than just making more sense, the only real impact of this would be that hunters in PVP wouldn't have as much need for spell penetration gems, which is another oddity in a physical DPS class. |
I play mainly for PvE Content
Heroics/Raids
Pet pathing and Kill Command not landing correctly. Hurts BM quite a bit. Disengage requiring combat. Trap Launcher mechanics. Hunter ranged weapon breaking exceptionally fast compared to other slots.
The utility that we have is awesome. Lots of tools; very enjoyable: Traps/Bloodlust/Buffs/Debuffs/Misdirect/TranqShot/Etc Being ranged, but not magic/mana is awesome. The switch to focus-based went much better than I expected, thanks!
Pet issues, particularly for BM can be really punishing. Kill command and pathing being the two largest issues. Trap launcher. The mechanic still feels too clunky. Need to separate CC traps/shots, or make some 1-button alternative I think.
I like the rotations (all three) in general. They do feel too similar in playstyle however. Would be nice if at least one spec was very different both to the player and the observer (see wish list).
I wish we could just have talent trees for pets. Then we choose based simply on their special (buff/debuff/etc) and their looks. Also more pet slots (of course). I wish we could have one spec that didn't rely on a pet at all. Either Marks or Survival being purely a physical ranged-capable character w/ some different tools maybe. I wish we could have one (or all specs) use weapons other than gun/bow. A throwing axe or knife specialist would be a fun look, even the harpoon (though might be technically very difficult to implement). Possibly mirrored onto the "non-pet" spec, with more melee capabilties. This sounds more and more like a Survival spec idea.

just chiming in with my two coppers' worth....
What type of content do you focus on? Primarily PVE If PvE, what type of PvE? Mostly Heroics, Raids when I get the chance. If PvP, what type of PvP? Just defending Darnassus when the Horde gets uppity. What are your biggest quality-of-life issues? For instance, no longer requiring ammo could be considered a quality-of-life improvement for hunters. Hmmmm. While I like not having to drop tens of thousands of gold on ammo, it did kind of remove some of the flavor for me. Just like the removal of pet happiness and loyalty. I liked knowing my Best Friend was well fed and happy. What makes playing your class more fun? Just being a Hunter. And my pets. What makes playing your class less fun? The minimum range needed to shoot. Hunters are the only ranged class with this limitation. How do you feel about your “rotation”? (Rotation is the accepted order in which abilities are used to maximum efficiency.) As a Survival Hunter, I find the rotation I use to be effective (thank you Frostheim) What’s on your wish list for your class? How about making Survival hunters less of a bow shooting mage and actually give us...y'know....SURVIVAL type abilities. And PLEASE make Camouflage .....better? More effective? Less....useless? And how about bringing back quivers, not as quivers exactly, but at least restore the appearance of a quiver on a character's back. And maybe some side quivers for crossbow users and pouches for gun users. What spells do you use the least? Anything that pertains to melee. |

What Type of content do you focus on?
Both PvE and PvP, across several classes If PvE, what type of PvE?(Heroics, Raids, Other...) Heroics, Raids, solo-play If PvP, what type of PvP? Random BGs, 2v2 Arena What are your biggest quality of life issues? Most issues, such as ammo, pet feeding, and pet survivability have been addressed. Focus itself is even a quality of life improvement for sustained hunter dps. I would say my biggest remaining issue is not having a reliable self heal. I know that Chimera Shot has a 5% max health gain on it, but it in no way compares to Victory Rush, Recuperate, or even a glyphed Evocate from some other dps classes. What makes playing your class more fun? I enjoy being able to play a range dps that isn't a caster. I feel like hunters bring a lot of utility that doesn't exist in many other classes. I remember some early Cataclysm pulls where I would be the CC for 3 of the 5 enemies by myself and that felt awesome when you could pull it off. Pet families makes being in charge of beasts of all shapes and sizes much more fun, collecting the pets if even only for their special abilities... Giving pet buffs and ways to help a raid are a good way to make sure that 'necessary' buffs are available at all times, and great group utility. What makes playing your class less fun? Healing, pet management, and too many buttons. The healing issue I mentioned, but with hunters being so in tune with nature, you'd think that they would have picked up a few things. Maybe a 'mend hunter' skill for your pet? Heh.. anyway, pets have improved over the years, but I still feel like I'm babysitting in some boss fight situations as well as PvP, having to get 2 people out of the fire instead of just one, and that isn't fun. Compared to playing on my Arcane Mage, playing the hunter can be a headache at times. How do you feel about your rotation? I really haven't played Beast Mastery in a rotation type environment, only solo play, so I can't speak for that one. I haven't been Marksmanship since Wrath, so I can't say much for that one either. I do, however, love Survival. Explosive Shot is boss, but also requires timing as to not overlap during proc times. It is fairly mobile, and there is consideration of when to AoE, when to burst, when to full DoT for T.N.T. procs, and the like. Even just the concept of having a spell damage hunter is a fun thing to explore. Whats on your wish list for your class? My biggest wish for the hunter class isn't addition of new pets, pistols (cool idea, but nothing more really than cosmetic), or fixing a mechanic, it's the idea that we could spec to become pet-less. I know that there are many pet loving hunters out there, and I agree that pets are a vastly useful tool of our class. However, I propose that a specialization be added (to Marksmanship most likely) that allows you to sacrifce pet usage and therefore pet abilities such as Master's Call, pet family skils, and inherent pet dps in order to gain a different bonus. The concept is not too far off from Titan's Grip and Single Minded Fury. Take an element that has been core to your class, and decide if you'd like to strengthen it or by speccing into a niche playstyle. Bonuses could be anything from increased damage such as SMF, or an increased focus regen rate such as combat rogues. Even additional range with sniper training from survival could be vaild alternatives. Basically this adds a varying playstyle to the hunter that makes it the only role of its kind in the game: a ranged pet-less non-caster dps. I do enjoy pets, but sometimes being a lone ranger would be just awesome. What spells do you use the least? Widow Venom - Although a healing reduction on paper is appealing, I have never been in the situation where the 10% debuff prevents a healer from outdoing any damage I do to him on my own. Either a healer needs to be swamped by large amounts of damage from multiple sources, or the healer will be able to sustain themselves with venom having very little effect. I doubt many even bother to dispel it. Eagle Eye - Another cool concept, just hardly used in gameplay. Thanks for taking the time to gather community input! :) |

We've had the new pet stances for a while now. In the main, I'd like to see the pet stances reverted.
Assist brings no useful functionality. I want my pet leading my attacks, not following. I want this for all the same reasons tanks like a few seconds before everyone else opens up on the target. I can get this by having pet attack macro'd to Hunter's Mark - something most of the hunters I know do. The pet AI's re-targeting logic is too slow to be useful if I actually WANT him to change to my target. Pet Assist breaks the functionality of que'd attack orders. Maybe no-one else does this, but I found queuing pet attack orders to be useful. (if you don't know what this means... basically if you give a pet attack order to attack target A, then B, then C, the pet will attack target C until dead, then go back to target B until B is dead, the go back to target A). Defensive Stance is nolonger a quality of life improvment. If I wanted a single default stance where the pet would behave reasonably without waking everything up, Defensive Stance was great. As it stands, Defensive Stance nolonger gives that improvment. I have to tell the pet to attack my target, and at that point it really isn't any better than passive stance. Passive Stance is fine... nothing more or less than it ever was, and useful on those terms. Loss of Aggressive Stance is a quality of life loss. Aggressive Stance was great for free-fire situations. Particularly in AoE: Set the pet to Stay in the middle of the AoE target, turn him aggressive, and not have to worry about whether or not he was actively eating mobs. Aggressive Stance combined with the Go To/Stay command was great for area control. I have yet to be in a fight where Assist was useful. I often miss Aggressive Stance. "Go To" is far superior to "Stay" |

What type of content do you focus on? Both PVP/PVE
If PvE, what type of PvE? Raid If PvP, what type of PvP? Arenas What are your biggest quality-of-life issues? Range If I get to close to something my damage drops. Also distance for tab target (If I can shoot I should be able to target) Make a better distance for tab target. Also a Healing cast of some short would be good for pvp. What makes playing your class more fun? Being able to Run and shoot love that for pvp and sometimes pve. (most of the time not wroth using in pve dps drops too low) What makes playing your class less fun? Getting killed by something due to it being too close to me (If I hold a gun up to a can and i shot it dose it hit) all the other range class can attack if somethings right there in front of them. How do you feel about your “rotation”? (I like the MM and Surv is good but alittle more complex but good. no idea on the BM could never get it down to use it. What’s on your wish list for your class? since there are already 2 ice traps and 2 fire traps how about another nature trap (snake trap is lame). I have been leveling another toon and noticed the old hunter gear was never updated for hunters now maybe remodel that gear for new toons being made. Also I think if you can skin it you can tame it (not including fish type) So let us have our drake pets. What spells do you use the least? Lets see Eagle Eye I never use, umm Raptor Strike (Never), Beast Lore (Never),and Widow Venom I rarely use. |
I love playing my hunter i enjoy being able to tame alot of really nice pets not having enough stable space, the focus needs to me more then 100,when in bgs facing more then one mobs/players( like the dks with army of the dead& death grip) i think the hunters should be able to longer range, summons more then one pet out& multishot shouldnt take no focus & when dks use death grip on hunters at a long ranger and us hunter can do just as long shots, i think the dks should be able to use army of the dead&death grip in bgs |

had this in the wrong topic, bumps for you just in case blizz sucks by the time I saw the feedback was full :( |
Both.
Raid, Old Content.
BG & Arena.
Kite, start PvE encounters, tracking, solo old content, feign death.
Being weak at PvP, a Mage replaces a Hunter way better either way, doing Arenas or RBGs. Not able to self heal and not able to clean DoTs on yourself.
Rotation is good. Experience, effort needed and variety is awesome. As a note, the only thing is to know there's some classes that just press 2 buttons for their rotations...

# What type of content do you focus on? [PvE/PvP/Both]PvE
# If PvE, what type of PvE? [Heroics/Raids/Other] Mostly soloing and random dungeons # If PvP, what type of PvP? [Arenas, BGs, Rated BGs] N/A # What are your biggest quality-of-life issues? For instance, no longer requiring ammo could be considered a quality-of-life improvement for hunters. Definitely the minimum range issue. I can see how it's a pain for PvPers, it can make PvE stack phases pretty tricky, and makes certain soloing scenarios pretty annoying as well. I don't mind its being there, but that's probably one of the things I miss most about volley since it definitely helped make up for the minimum range issue. I also kinda liked how the old defensive stance for pets worked (though I don't miss aggressive, for sure), and I'm not entirely convinced I like the current available stances. It seems like it would be easier to have one of the stances allow the pet to stay in the fray regardless of when I shoot what during an aoe pull like defensive used to do. It's not bad the way it is now, but I wouldn't mind a bit more tweaking to smooth it out. I agree with whoever said our primary visible weapon should be our ranged if there's a way to make that work, or at least let us draw our weapon the first time we hit the draw weapon shortcut. :P # What makes playing your class more fun? Running around with pets, letting my pet handle the mobs while I'm grabbing that shiny ore, and having a wide variety of pets we can tame. I also have a fondness of running around shooting arrows at things. # What makes playing your class less fun? That minimum range thing is a big one, and again, bringing volley back would go long way toward making me happy about it. Also non-hunters coming along and killing my potential pets mid-tame. Surely there's some way to prevent that from happening (required to kill the hunter first or something, at the least). # How do you feel about your “rotation”? (Rotation is the accepted order in which abilities are used to maximum efficiency.) It's not too bad. # What’s on your wish list for your class? Volley, Volley, Volley. More stable slots and more creatures that are possible to tame (sometimes I kinda want an elk pet, for example). Ability to choose any talent tree for any pet. Ferocity spiders and tanking armored wolves? Heck yeah. I also miss my eyes of the beast. I didn't use it much for practical purposes, I'll admit, but it was a great spell to mess around with during down time and is an awesome tool for RP purposes. # What spells do you use the least? Raptor Strike (only ever used it pre-level 10 or during that dragon-riding quest in Storm Peaks, and even then it was useless). Aspect of the Pack (really only useful for running back from a wipe and a couple other random and creative scenarios). Beast Lore for any purpose beyond checking if something is tameable without hitting up the internet, and I rarely even use it for that. If there was a way to say if a creature was tameable or not without casting Beast Lore, I'd probably never use it again. |

I've been reading through a LOT of the Class Feedback responses. There's one common theme that I think is a bit of a mistake.
Lots of people have posted about the problem of DoTs breaking Hunter CC, and therefore PROPOSE REMOVING DOTS. I've seen proposals to have scatter or freezing trap cleanse all DOTs, or to have the DOT effect removed from Snake Trap or Wyvern Sting, or even remove the bleed effect from the MM tree. I think all of these proposals miss the real culprit here. The real issue is that Hunter CC breaks at even the slightest amount of damage. Very few other CC abilities in the game have this problem without some sort of workaround fix. I think the real solution is to have freezing trap, scatter shot, and wyvern sting interact better with DOTs and have at least a little resistance to incidental damage from other sources. This also would allow hunters to have some synergy with other classes, like warlocks, rather than being completely unable to CC anything when in a group with classes that use a lot of DOTs (which is most DPS classes, really). Freezing trap should "freeze" DOTs so they stop advancing until the freeze trap wears off. Freezing trap needs the ability to absorb at least a little incidental damage before breaking. Scatter Shot and Wyvern Sting simply need to withstand more damage before breaking. Making Wyvern Sting a baseline ability for all hunter specs would also help a lot of the complaints, since it's much easier to use than freezing trap, and frankly makes more sense as a hunter CC ability. (Real hunters DO shoot poison arrows to make things go to sleep, but I'm not aware of any hunters who place traps that freeze targets in blocks of ice). Anyway, I hope people will stay focused on making our CC interact well with DOTs and incidental damage, not just ask for the removal of hunter DOTs, which would still leave us incompatible with other classes who use DOTs. |

What type of content do you focus on?
PvP If PvP, what type of PvP? Arena's, and BG's mostly. But i do rated BG's also. What are your biggest quality-of-life issues? Aspect swapping. No pvp hunter manually swaps aspects anymore, it's all macro'd to certain abilities. I say just merge aspect of the fox/hawk and call it a day. What makes playing your class more fun? The painfully unique, mechanics....all the other classes just seem lazy =/ What makes playing your class less fun? Being so squishy in melee range. As soon as i fall within melee range, i have failed as a hunter and will die fast/soon. And not having any decent self heals (as MM). How do you feel about your “rotation”? Easy roation is easy. but since im MM i can never find time to cast aimed shot because I always have to be moving. What’s on your wish list for your class? -pet rez needs to be less than 10 seconds. If a DK stuns me and takes my pet behind a pillar and kills it....well ive just lost about 25% of my damage, and my master's call...and my other pet abilities. -Pets are still spawning with 6k hp, and its an instant death to anyone who decides to take advantage of this. -steady shot and cobra shot need to be merged (not in damage, but what they do) -steady shot and cobra shot should not be affected by casting slows because it also slows down our recourse regen. No other class has to deal with this. These slows are too powerful against hunters. -the dalaran sewers arena map is horrible for hunters. We cant shoot anyone who decides to stand behind the boxes, we're either too close or out of LoS. I hate that map so much. I can name countless times where my team would have won if the other team didnt have the advantage of not being a hunter. Case and Point: fix that map, or get rid of my minimum range. -mend pet should not have a glyph, it should always be just that good. -Aimed shot is useless against plate wearers, for a 2.8 second cast that costs 50 focus i would expect it to do more damage then an instant arcane shot. -Freezing trap and Ice trap should not share a CD. Choosing between my slow and CC is not fun, and since im forced to CC in arena. I have no choice. -Scatter/trap-ing is a nightmare, first you scattershot, then hit trap launcher, then hit the trap you want to use, then manually click on the screen where you want the trap to go. I don't have time to sit here and do this in arena, when i could be using that time to try and help take someone down. Sometimes they dont even walk over the trap because the disorient makes them walk away from the trap, and sometimes, i just miss completely. It's mistakes like this that can cost me my game. Wish: Add an Ice arrow that shares a CD with ice trap. and make it so that freezing and Ice trap dont share a CD. Traps are way too clunky, and if my scatter shot is on CD, i dont want to just place a trap and hope they step in it, its a chance thing, and i cant take chances in arena, i NEED to be able to CC. |
