Yeah, it's probably best that Blizzard does this, so as not to set people's expectations too high and then crush them, all by mistake.

Some of you might have seen some recent speculation out there regarding the unannounced MMO and BlizzCon. There’s going to be a ton of information and content at the show -- including a closing concert by Foo Fighters, which we just revealed today -- but we want to be clear up front that we’re not going to be discussing the unannounced MMO.

If you annouce it, then it won't be unannounced and you would be able to discuss it, right?

ACTIVISION HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE DEVELOPMENT OF WOW

Indirectly, they do. They will set revenue targets and approve development budgets. So, if they say that you can only spend $X on salaries, Blizzard will only spend $X on salaries. That may necessitate cutting back on content and features that they would otherwise like to provide.

So since Blizzard tends to have multiple big news announcements every year, what are you going to be talking about?

Obviously a release date for Diablo 3.... we already know it is coming first quarter 2012... which of those 90 days isn't that big of news.
An update on the Starcraft 2 series? Yeah we know they are coming, and we kinda know when and what they are about... not that huge of news...

So Obviously the big news is you are going to be clarifying what exactly Mist of Pandaria is (whether it is a x-pack the next in the Warcraft series Warcraft 4 (which is what I am betting on), or something else like a warcraft based FPS or something.)

of course there will also be talk about Warcraft and what it has in store for its future...

Or perhaps the Warcraft movie... an update on that?

What really is going to be the HUGE announcement that holds the entire event together and gets everybody excited?

the "recent speculation" isn't recent. people have speculated that there has been a design shift since wrath. the leak of "titan" happened back in Jan/Feb. all this does is show that we are correct in assuming there was a design team shift to support a new mmo.

from what i have gathered, wow is in death mode. the knee jerk reaction nerfs and the slow buffs shows the wow team is doing the bare minimum to keep subs strung along as blizz waits for the new mmo to go live.

in the 80's atari believed they could sell a garbage product based on name alone - blizz is headed down the same road. you can't poop on a platter and call it caviar.

edit:
blizz + activision + bungie = maybe a "halo futuristic mmo"?
