The app is not available for my X10 mini because of it's screen resolution, but it's well known that it works well, despite the low resolution.
Since Android Market won't list the app because of that, can you people at Blizzard put a download link for the .apk file of the WoW Armory app? I'm paying the subscription to use the service. My cell phone, despite the screen resolution, can run the app correctly and I'm feeling a bit cheated by Blizzard because you guys can't seem to put a simple download link for the app. This is an old problem, it's been there for months, yet nobody at this company wants to address it. I really can't believe that Blizzard has excluded 240x320 screen resolution phones from WoW Armory mobile. |

Instead of me retyping it, this was addressed a long time ago.
12. The Mobile Armory / WoW Remote service doesn't work on my 240x320 display phone. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2416208562#3 It's unsupported, it's not a known issue because it's not an issue at all. Blizzard doesn't feel like their app works well on that resolution and thus will not allow it to be used. ________________________________________________ The Chat Gem Lives! That's a problem, simply because the app runs well on a X10 mini, which has already been proven: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2416112202. The fact that the app was not designed for such screen resolution shouldn't forbid users from trying to use it. It's a free app, which only works for users who regularly pay for a service. I'm paying to use WoW Remote. There's nothing ilegal in putting a download link to the .apk file for users who can't find it in Android Market. If the app doesn't work correctly, it's a technical issue in the user's phone. Also, Blizzard doesn't deny WoW client download to users with PC's which are below minimum requirements to run the game. |

I would have to believe that Blizzard would have put the .apk up for download if there were no implications. I'm really not sure, to be honest. I would love to see them put it up officially on their public FTP, I'm sure some users want to use it on an Android emu on their PC anyway, ;0.

Phöbös, I apologize for not replying sooner, but this is something that I have brought up with our development team. There is an ongoing dialog but beyond that I can't say much. So many phones, so many policies, so little time.
I will say, however, that by not placing these types of limitations, we open another can of worms. We've looked at other business models that have popped up outside the Marketplace that don't place limitations, and the concerns that have been raised compound the problem for us, especially with an application that handles sensitive data. |

Phöbös, I apologize for not replying sooner, but this is something that I have brought up with our development team. There is an ongoing dialog but beyond that I can't say much. So many phones, so many policies, so little time. Thank you for your response. I understand Blizzard's concern about malware infection when they allow users to install apps from outside Android Market. But, if Blizzard puts the .apk exclusively in it's own FTP server, there's no chance the file would be infected. Anyway, I'll be waiting for a solution for this problem. Maybe I'll just download it from some friend's Android phone, backup the .apk and transfer it to my phone... |

Just a tip for those who, like me, didn't get help from Blizzard: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841001
That thread teaches you how to install a patched Android Market app on your Android phone with low screen resolution (like X10 mini). This patched Android Market app let's you download hidden apps, that don't appear for low resolution phones. I've downloaded WoW Armory, installed it and, as I already suspected, the app worked perfectly on my phone. Obviously the low resolution made some words appear without sharpness, but the app is perfectly usable. To install that patched Android Market app (Vending.apk), you're gonna need to get Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which can be downloaded from Android SDK. Android SDK is a modular software, so you don't have to download the whole thing. Just download the basic package (33MB), and from within you download "Android Plataform Tools". You can ignore the rest. You're also gonna need to root your phone. So, search for some tutorials on how to root your phone (which is pretty simple and quick to do with SuperOneClick application), and follow the tutorial on that page to install the patched Market app. Blizzard, I know that now I can download the damn WoW Armory app from my low resolution Android phone, but I just want to say that not everyone has the patience to research ways to fill the hole you left for customers. Just put a download link for WoW Armory .apk file and save people some time... This app is perfectly usable on 240x320 screen resolution phones. |
