I came across some old threads on this topic, but wanted to re-visit some thoughts, as I feel this topic would add some very important guild/raid management functionality.

Currently, the in-game calendar, while it does offer great event management, is only accessible in-game. For our guild, composed of casual players who aren't always able to log in-game to register for events or manage them, we are not able to use the in-game calendar effectively due to lack of accessibility - we opted to primarily use the calendar on our website. However, as our guild expanded, we realized some players just do not use our website, so it limits access to raid registration and adds a very difficult dynamic for the guild leaders and the raid leaders. This alone has caused some growth restrictions for our guild.

Having all of a player's in-game calendar permissions (create event, delete event, edit event, register for event, etc.) available via the WoW Armory website would solve this issue, and I am sure this is not an isolated situation. Additionally, the calendar is not something that directly relates to in-game performance - it is there to notify players of events and help a guild organize.

In my opinion, this functionality should be a candidate for the Armory well before some of the other perks available.

Why are they more likely to use the calendar on Blizzard's site rather than the one on your site?

They're not, but guild masters and raid leaders find the functionality useful, without losing the ability for players who don't use the website to view it in game. It's a "best of both worlds" solution that really shouldn't be that hard to implement.
