-Why is the claim that the the LGBT folks that aren't offended by the usage do not speak for the community at large not reflective? http://www.derailingfordummies.com/#backup
http://www.derailingfordummies.com/#angry http://www.derailingfordummies.com/#asbad Yes, arguing with links is a little lazy, but those questions are rather thoroughly addressed there, and I'm on my way out to a concert at the moment. Retyping the answers to a well-covered set of questions would be a bit of a waste. Read the rest of the page as well, though. It's 101-level stuff, but a good basic introduction. |

Don't know. Seriously. Just sharing what I did and why. That's it. I quit. I mean everyone wants a sincere apology. That has been all that anyone has asked for. I thought one was deserved in this case. That did not happen. The Blizzard Q&A would have been a great time to say, hey, we know what's happening, a statement will be forthcoming. Let's get back to the topic. Nope. nada. Nobody here except those reading/posting. Did all that I could and what I felt was necessary. For anyone to question the sincerity of that is disingenuious, but it's cool nonetheless. That was it. k. I'm out. Good luck all. |

Bashiok is NOT one the people that caused this therefore the resposibility to rectify it should not be on his shoulders if it had happened on the forums then as the senior forum mod yes it would be his duty to handle the sitiuation but it was not done on his watch thus is it not his place to be expected to apologize |

The very first post in this thread literally says
I... Just.... I guess whatever words that follow don't really matter. But it's right there. Here, I'll post it some more. Maybe it will get across.

Except this guy just broke the ToS. He did not give an edited version of it. The video at blizzcon did. So huge difference. And since censored is okay.... |

Apologize for what exactly? Be specific and thorough. Don't use things that weren't there either. |

I appreciate their apology, but it bothers me that they're throwing out, "It wasn't meant to be serious" as an excuse for validating hate speech. :( Just because something is said as a joke doesn't mean it's okay.

I will say, as a member of the LGBT community, I was upset by the language used and it saddens me that Blizzard had thought it was at all 'fun'. "Sorry if it offended anyone, it was meant in fun" is very different from "Sorry we let someone use our convention to say offensive things to a large segment of our player-base" which is where a lot of the offended comments are coming from.
The ability to say that it was meant to be fun shows that Blizzard failed somewhere. Either it was a failure to check what their speakers planned to say at their convention or a failure in thinking that having someone spout homophobic slurs counts as 'fun', but your apology is just vague enough that I can't tell. I love WoW and I love Blizzard, so I want to assume the best of you. Please remember that the LGBT community is part of your customer base too and we want to enjoy your games. Thank you. (And I apologize if anything I said is unclear, this is something that makes me genuinely upset and I'm trying hard not to let that leak out into a useless rant.) |

http://mentalshaman.com/2011/10/27/blizzcon-this-is-about-homophobia-not-horde-v-alliance/ Because most people look at facts, they don't believe stuff only if it furthers their agenda. |
