Ok, I've been reading through quite a number of posts where this is the same, but none of their fixes will work for me.

Ok, first off, for internet we use a Mortorola SURFboard ethernet modem/router (also wireless, but I am connected directly). I am trying to redownload the client through the patcher, but every time I do so, it runs for about a minute/minute and a half and it kills the internet connection. It will stay "dead" until I close the patcher and then my computer resolves the internet.

I am running Win 7 all the way patched up. I ran a few "ipconfig /all"s before and after the crash.

Any help would be great as I would like to play the game again...but I cannot until this is resolved! Thanks!

Before the internet crash:

Mortorola SURFboard ethernet modem/router (also wireless, but I am connected directly).

What's the model number of the Motorola SURFboard? You're connected directly to it, and not through a router?

The Model is SBG6580.

And that is correct, no router, just plugged directly into this device (which serves as a router as such).

Motorola doesn't seem to have any firmware updates available for that model:

http://broadband.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17811

You might want to contact your ISP to have them update the firmware.

In the meantime, I'd try changing the speed of the nVidia nForce network adapter:

  • Click on Start.
  • Click on Control Panel.
  • Double click on the System icon (in Windows XP, you may need to click Switch to Classic View on the left hand side of the screen).
  • Select the Hardware tab.
  • Click on Device Manager.
  • Expand the section labeled Network Adapters.
  • Right click on the nForce controller and select Properties.
  • Click on the Advanced Tab
  • Click on Speed and Duplex (or Media Type or Connection Type)
  • Change the value to 10 or 100 Mbps Full Duplex

Toggling that down helps a bit. Now, instead of after a minute, it dies after four. I'm going to call the ISP and see if we can't get the firmware upgraded. I hate these gateway devices.

Ok, I just wanted to update on this. I talked to my ISP and my firmware is up to date. However, it still has troubles. This only happens with this updater too, sadly. I can do other peer to peer applications and download without any issue.

Currently experiencing the same problem, after about a half hour to an hour I get disconnected. My girlfriend uses the same router/modem combo and receives no disconnects. This is rather frustrating.

The only way I have found to remedy this is to set your IP as the DMZ host. I have been trying to work this one out for a while and haven't found any other solution. I am TimeWarner tech and have dealt with these modem/routers quite a bit, generally they are great devices, but they do have some limits.
