It's amusing that no one understands the implications it would have, good and bad, of bringing back an extinct species. Everyone is just "Omg lawl cute pet in real life!" or "I'm already 40 do I get mount nao?!11"
Bringing mammoth's back would be torturing the animals because they would die very quickly in our drastically different climate, ozone and many other factors. EDIT: I'm no PETA enthusiast or what not, but I do believe if something is extinct, it's extinct for a reason. |

You can't deny how interesting it would be to study one of these things, though... it's the closest thing we have to looking directly into the planet's past and it would provide insight for a multitude of things.

YES! Actually, people supposedly have ate mammoth "steaks" in the last 100 years. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2725/prehistoric-its-whats-for-dinner |

Posted by Plumps I feel the same. It typically seems if something in the last few thousand years has gone extinct it's because of us. |
|
surely if we have the means to resurrect these dead species then we would have the means to creating an artificial environment for them to exist in that is suited for their needs.

It's amusing that no one understands the implications it would have, good and bad, of bringing back an extinct species. Everyone is just "Omg lawl cute pet in real life!" or "I'm already 40 do I get mount nao?!11" Firstly, to claim that bringing mammoths back amounts to torture is bombastic nonsense. Animals can readily and comfortably live outside their native habitats, for example in zoos. Secondly, torture is better than nonexistence. |

umm... what? Besides, do we HAVE to bring another species back into this unspeakably cruel world of ours? Meddling like this will no doubt have dire consequences. Humanity shouldn't be tampering the the forces of life and death. |

If you bring back the mamoths, you gotta bring back the sabertooth tigers.

Go go power rangers? |

It's amusing that no one understands the implications it would have, good and bad, of bringing back an extinct species. Everyone is just "Omg lawl cute pet in real life!" or "I'm already 40 do I get mount nao?!11" The halocene era, when the last of the mammoths died out 4500 years ago, was really only about 1 degree C cooler then todays weather on average. Besides, we can always shave them. |
