This is including the rare dungeon drops that you have to win the roll on to get the quest item. I would agree with the math if it were 100% chance of getting those drops each fair.

Try to remember that, this first week withstanding, you have an entire month to get your hands on these.

Ah, I thought they only dropped during the DMF week.

Hey Bashiok, thanks for taking the time to put that all together for us. I'm still going to have to say that is an incredibly long time to wait to get all of the items that I want. I'm pretty sure most people won't want to grind dungeons for 40 tickets as those drops seem pretty rare in the first place. So that seems to be a side thing that you might win against 4 other people in a dungeon that it might drop in. I'll be doing the dailies every day I can that they are available, but I'm not going to spend a whole week each month on grinding tickets. I think it does seem a bit excessive, and I sure hope you guys can reconsider this.

I'm pretty awful at math, but simple addition shouldn't scare anyone... I hope.

I certainly appreciate the well-reasoned (and calm ;) response and we'll be continuing to bring concerns to the designers and will keep you updated should we get any good examples or reasoning to share, or should anything change. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Keeping all of this in mind we don’t feel the current ticket acquisition rates or reward costs are out of hand, but we’re interested to hear your thoughts after reading this information and considering the longevity of the content, as well as the ‘once a month’ format of the faire. We’ll be continually evaluating it, and we’re looking forward to incorporating more goodies to be won, and more activities to the faire, in the future.

Unfortunately, the 145 ticket number will only be available to people who do their dailies every day, have time to raid (and get lucky, because the raid drop is not guaranteed), have time to grind through old dungeons, PVP a bunch, AND grind through the new heroics until they get lucky. I already play this game way too much, and I'm nowhere near the 145 ticket number for this week. The time investment to get even 90 tickets to get a pet in a single month is just way too high, much less to max out your monthly tickets.

Increasing the number of tickets from the dailies to the PTR rate would give people a reason to go to the Faire every day, allow people a reasonable way to acquire tickets (shouldn't you earn the majority of your tickets AT the Faire?), and still allow the more hardcore people to acquire items faster by grinding through dungeons, PVP, etc for the extra tickets.

People don't want to wait 4 months to get their transmog gear when they see that any other set takes 1-2 weeks to get.

Then maybe they don't even like the set in the first place and are foremost looking for something that is easy to get?

:) I tend to try.

Thanks for putting up with all the stuff we put you CMs through everyday and thanks for giving us a voice with the developers. I look at some of the stuff posted on these forums daily and it makes me want to barf, but I digress.

I can't wait for more games! Tell the Devs to get to work! :O

While I agree with the prices of mounts and pets, the cost on armor is still too high I feel. I'd also like to hear the justification why the raid reward offers 10, while the heroic reward offers 15.

I don't think every dungeon, but I think if they are counting these in their ticket totals that if a quest items drops in a dungeon (I personally have only seen one drop once and I do lots of dungeons-so maybe I am just unlucky) that everyone can loot it instead of having to roll on it. That would be my hope. Maybe make them unique quest items that you can only have one of at a time and then let everyone loot them in the group if they don't have one already.

Thank you for responding, I hope you know I'm not attacking you but I am highly critical of how this is playing out:

Thanks everyone for your feedback. To hopefully clear up some of the confusion over time investment vs reward costs we've broken down exactly how many tickets you can obtain in a single Darkmoon Faire week. The design intent of the Darkmoon Faire is that it’s available for one week out of the month, and in that one week we expect you to be able to obtain a significant amount of tickets. To clarify the OP’s point of how long it would take to obtain an entire set of cosmetic gear, the math presented was incorrect, and it would in fact only take 4 Darkmoon Faire weeks to complete an entire set. That’s of course still no quick task, and the intent is not for it to be. There are plenty of rewards that can be obtained in one or two weeks of the Darkmoon Faire, but we expect that an entire set will take a few events to obtain.

Here’s the breakdown:

Tickets Per Faire
    Dungeon: 40
    Heroic Dungeon: 15
    Raid: 10
    Tradeskill quests (primary): 8
    Tradeskill quests (secondary): 12
    BGs: 15
    Kill Quest: 10
    Mini Games*: 35

Total Tickets per faire: 145

* 5 mini games, available daily: 7*5=35

As an example, here are some options that you can choose over the course of two Darkmoon Faires (2 weeks over 2 months):

  • Prioritizing mounts/pets: 1 mount + 1 pet, with 20 tickets to spare
  • Prioritizing pets: 3 pets, 20 tickets to spare
  • Prioritizing cosmetic armor: 4 pieces of cosmetic armor, with 30 tickets to spare
  • Prioritizing heirloom armor: 1 piece of heirloom armor + 1 heirloom weapon, with 20 tickets to spare
  • Keeping all of this in mind we don’t feel the current ticket acquisition rates or reward costs are out of hand, but we’re interested to hear your thoughts after reading this information and considering the longevity of the content, as well as the ‘once a month’ format of the faire. We’ll be continually evaluating it, and we’re looking forward to incorporating more goodies to be won, and more activities to the faire, in the future.

The problem here is that you are giving reports of drops from dungeons which are on the 10% rare table. Now granted if people do go to the raids, they will get a few raid drops, but that is not conducive to the spirit of making DMF available to everyone.

We are also well aware that you think the rate of acquisition is reasonable, and that's the problem. You think that it's reasonable for people to farm for tickets via rare drops in a relatively short amount of time (7 days) and then priced the "APPEARANCE PIECES" of gear that was taken out simply because the devs didn't want to "spend time adjusting the stats" of said gear to such a high degree the average player is NOT going to get a full set within 7-9 months.

People really wouldn't be this upset about it if things were reasonably priced or the rate of acquisition was at an appropriate speed. The reason people are upset is the feedback we've gotten from some MVPs and others is that:

    1. It's not our fault you can't sit at the computer for 4-6 hours a day. Reward requires work!
    and
    2. Use an alt!

Honestly, this needs to be changed. Especially since the rate of acquisition was 5 tickets per daily on the PTR.

You don't see a soft increase in availability of those items created by low level players and people farming the dungeons? Honestly if you think you need to invest a lot of time into ZF to get the items out of it, you're just mistake. Have you even tried getting these items? They're rather cheap on the AH.

I agree, it's still a ridiculous amount of time invested especially since most people have more than one character by now to work on as well.

Perhaps a good idea would be to make those items drop in dungeons even when the carnival isn't in town? That seems like a compromise I'd be willing to make.

    We need:

    A Ferris Wheel

    Bumper Cars

    Spinny Tea Cups.

Also The Zipper. Although I can't ever see my favorite ride in game. It would be pretty hard to animate the view.

Honestly, getting the RNG to love you enough to get the raid drops you want to drop can take longer than this. I've been trying for the Cataclysm shaman set for ages for my dwarf. My friend ran raids every week for months before some pieces dropped. At least with DMF you are guranteed to get your desired gear in a set amount of time so long as you do your dailies.
