Australian Server, I'd buy an annual for that

How many Aussies would buy and annual pass if Blizzard planted a server here in Australia. I would, and I haven't up until now on any of my accounts.
I'm trying to gauge support and maybe entice a little interest from Blizzard. If it is economically not viable maybe Blizzard could respond and put the whole thing to rest. Or is it a case of as usual Australia is not big enough to count? |

if i had money for everytime some idiot posted these topics, i could buy a few annual passes.
servers in aus is a bad idea, if you had any idea of the network youd know why. servers in singapore would be better. !@#$ |

And even in Singapore, you start to get the question.... with so many Oceanic players playing on US servers.... how many would ACTUALLY move.
I mean look at SC2 for example. I know a lot of Australians who took the offer to play on the US servers rather then the chance to play on the Singapore ones.... just because they had friends on the US servers. And I know A LOT of Aussies at Uni who will buy the US copy of TOR for the same reason. |

The idea is to get them physically closer to lower ping times etc. If that means China I don't care as long as the performance is better. I was a little unclear in my original post.
If they gave me free transfers, yes... Otherwise i'm not sure i could leave everything behind now so it's really not even worth it tbh from both sides, i couldn't see enough people leaving behind all their characters and friends here to get lower ping, it's fine for me for the most part getting 170 ping at nearlly all times.
Anyway, i'm in for swtor then D3 so i'll see how they go, only thing i'm looking foward to in MoP are the pet battles and the monk class otherwise it just seems kinda pointless continueing to play, sad :( |
I don't really care anymore. They seem to have worked out a way to improve our latency since the last patch. So i couldn't really give a dam where the servers are now. This whole topic is just beating a dead horse now.

would anyone pay for an official tunneling service?
Last patch really did help, i went from 350ping to 180, but i aggree we realy do need an Australian based server.
As Blizzard already has a server in Singapore for SEA Starcraft, surely it wouldn't be too hard to move the servers for Warcraft to the same place?
What would it honestly do.. you would still have americans etc joining (That are new) and then being to poor to afford to change servers.

if i had money for everytime some idiot posted these topics, i could buy a few annual passes. Yes Singapore is geographically closer to the middle, but you have to think, where are the majority of players from? Australia. As much as I'd like it to be in my own country, more the of users would benefit from the server being in Aus. |

i doubt australias internet infrastructure could handle such a large influx of data.
the nbn caused alot of players latency to rise even higher, filtering every single thing through government servers before then returning back to our pcs. singapore has the fastest infrastructure in the world, put servers there. the average latency to singapore is 200ms, on a busy day. the average latency to the us, on a quiet day, is 230+ with wows recent ability to lower latencys even further, our ping to singapore would more than likely be <100ms. think of those who were trying to connect to aus from hawaii,japan,korea,malaysia,singapore... theyd get significantly higher latency than they would to singapore. australians arent the only subscribers. and this is on a highspeed adsl2+ connection. |
i doubt australias internet infrastructure could handle such a large influx of data. Thank Conroy for his retarded plan to filter the internet, wondering if this is still going ahead or being dropped, either way this douche has no idea what he is trying to achieve and how ineffective a mandatory internet filter is, it's just a straight up !@#$ idea from every perspective possible, you don't want naughty material popping up on your pc? Go grab yourself an internet filter and install it on your own pc, theres so much more advantages a personal filter has over the nation filter... Anyway, it's a while till the nbn is actually rolled out completely, by then it would easily support the server but until then our copper wires just can't cut it and i respect that, although what i'd like is just Aus servers for bg's and arenas, if possible to connect the Aus servers with the US ones so we can still achieve a smooth play in PvP where it really shows having that 0.3 of a second lag trying to wind shear the heal or what have you.. Also, Blizzcon, why u no come Melbourne?!?!? |

Firstly, there is quite a bit of misguided information here.
Australia doesent use 'copper wires' everywhere, there is masses amounts of fiber connecting cities, regional areas, suburbs etc. Not to mention every connection out of the country is fiber. Australian servers wouldnt bring an influx of data that the network couldn't handle, in the grand scheme of things it would be negligible. I work in a large data centre, we have intercontinental co-lo backups running at around 50tb per day, network load sitting at around 20% or 2.25gb a sec basically up and down in peak times. We are one data centre in many, WoW's usage would be so miniscule in comparison. WoW wouldnt need some 'super' network to operate by any stretch of the imagination. Cheers |

I agree Try, that while a fiber backbone links cities and other countries, a vast majority homes link via copperline and there lies the problem. I live next to a main road in Canberra and despite the fiber running in the tunnels near my house, is still connected by copper and in an old suburb the condition of that copper is not the best, with high resistance in the lines all the time, which can hinder an adsl connection badly. (licenced cabler if you are wondering) :)

Oh my goodness.. we are never going to get an Australian based server...
The costs are too high, the return is too low, and the server would be full of drunk, piss talking bogans. Actually... yes.. please make one of these servers, that way all the 'dropkicks' can go spend time on the 'aussie' hosted server and leave the rest of the Oceanic free of their mindless drivel. |

Three cheers for fresh ideas

Oh my goodness.. we are never going to get an Australian based server... Sounds great, we'll join the drunk, piss talking bogan server while you and your people can occupy the pig-headed bigot server. |
