Blizzard will soon be posting the winning story from its 2011 writing contest (congrats to Danny McAleese), but the other finalists will only be getting excerpts posted on the official site, so if anyone was curious, my story, "The Future of Lordaeron," has now been posted on my personal blog:
http://superiorrealities.wordpress.com/2011/12/22/blizzard-2011-writing-contest-finalist-the-future-of-lordaeron/ I hope you all enjoy it. :) Edit: Spoilers for the story have come up in the ensuing discussion. I recommend you read the story before moving on to the rest of the thread. |

It was good... and I really wasn't expecting that ending until you decribed the people fighting... my mind went "Oh, l o l". The story seems really ... uh possible. It seems like it could actually happen lorewise (though the end...)
The end though, seems too out there(?) I don't know maybe its because I would rather see the person alive and hiding in Kul Tiras or something. Still, don't take that the wrong way, I really liked the story. Well done. :) |

Very well written. Very intriguing as well. I expected it to be the (forgive me for forgetting her name) undead female you meet in the Undead starting area. Calia was a pleasant surprise.
If I may ask, how do you suppose she died? |

Lilian Voss. Also, if the story is any indication, Arthas killed his sister; a slash with Frostmourne to the chest. |

Well, this was a pleasant surprise.
I read the first part not expecting much, given the warm portrayal of Sylvanas, however, that obviously changed after her confrontation with Darion. His exchange with 'Spoiler Alert' at the end was very good, too, and a nice twist. Though I'm not sure if your intention was to portray Sylvanas or the undead in general, I really liked the way you wrote Darion, from his words to his mannerisms, and his intentions for future plans. A very nice read, overall. Thank you for posting it! |

Ah, that makes sense now. I read that as meaning the blood elf had the frostmourne wound in his chest.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT
I believe that the reason Darion was saying that Sylvanas leading the Forsaken towards a rebuilding a Lordaeron would play into their hands was because he intends to remove Sylvanas somehow and replace her with Calia. With the forsaken enthusiastic about returning Lordaeron to its former glory, giving it back it's rightful queen (who is also forsaken) would probably go over much smoother. |

My feelings for Calia's character aside..
He knelt. “I promise you, my lady, Lordaeron will have its queen restored to it.” I'm not as polished on my lore as others here are but this just sat funny with me. It seems out of Darion's character. From what I have read and witnessed in game I just cannot see him doing this. I can't even think of a good reason why he would even care. [Darion] Wanting to take out Sylvanas I understand, and the rest of the story wasn't bad, but the end just seemed awkward. Calia's character alone (and the context of the Forsaken story thus far) makes me doubt that she could take up the reigns of being the new queen of the Forsaken/Lordaeron, and even if she had the capability to do so how well would the notion be received by "her subjects"? Either way, those are my thoughts on it. <3 Shudder: Congratulations as well. |

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. It means a lot. :)
I pictured Falric and Marwyn (and other minions) closing up the palace, and Arthas going from room to room stabbing everyone in sight.
This is sort of what I'd like to see Blizzard do, yes. I view Calia as the only individual whom the Forsaken might accept as a leader other than Sylvanas, since she is the legitimate heir to the throne of Lordaeron. And we all know Sylvanas will be a raid boss eventually. Yes, that's what I had in mind. I'm not as polished on my lore as others here are but this just sat funny with me. It seems out of Darion's character. From what I have read and witnessed in game I just cannot see him doing this. I can't even think of a good reason why he would even care. Darion was someone who was willing to give his life for Lordaeron, so I assume he'd still care about it in death. But fair enough. |

Sylvanas' order to "have the liches recheck their sensing spells" was a little jarring, since she doesn't command any liches. Other than that, the scenes between Leonid/Darion and Sylvanas were pretty good.
I'm not so keen on the scene between Darion and Calia, though. If either of them cared about Lordaeron, they would do as he said: make war on the Forsaken until the Alliance is able to occupy and restore the region. A Lordaeron occupied by the undead - or controlled by the Horde - is no Lordaeron at all. |

Only if they replace all the ambient Forsaken dialogue about "Victory for Sylvanas" and "Dark Lady watch over you" and suchlike. Among other things. In any case, it seems kinda repetitive, since Varimathras did that already. |
