About a month ago I got infected by an ad from WoWhead.
Maybe the warcraftrealms malware is something similar, only the code wasn't obfuscated so Google was able to detect it. (some attack vectors even check the IP of the browser requesting a page, and serve a 'safe' page if the IP is from Google for example)
(PDF and Flash are two of the other most common attack vectors of course, along with browser exploits)
I noticed the warcraftrealms warning when searching on Google a few days ago, and while I don't expect my current browser could be compromised (up-to-date Firefox on Linux, and even if I had Java turned on it's a 3rd-party implementation so wouldn't be vulnerable to the same exploits even if it was out of date) it is a reason to avoid linking to the site which is unfortunate.
