Just curious, is it intended for the forums to now show our SCII IDs?
I just noticed it when replying to another thread. Edit: It is the new Battletag system, thanks all. |

THese forums? or the SC forums.
THey are working on the battle tag system.. so that may be making some changes happen.. |

They are showing some of the IDs. No idea why, but it appears to show on a few people.

edits: ok, i see it upon clicking. I misread, and thought it was on mouseover =)
*hides* edits: Mine shows the one from the new(?) Btag system. I don't have an SC2 account, so i know it's not just that :P |

Oh! I guess it is from clicking. There is one that's showing on mouseover for me... no idea why, it's just that one.

You sure it's not your battle tag name ?
Mine's showing my battle tag name. ________________________________________________ Bringing you walls of text and cookies since 2005 :) Mac Tech Support MVP (moonlights in other forums) Here to Help :) |

As does mine. Not sure I like everyone knowing it, but *shrug*. We don't yet know how they fully intend to use it. When they finally do I don't want random tells in various games from people who got it from the forums. We'll see. |

Those aren't your Starcraft 2 IDs, they're Blizzard's new "BattleTag" system, which is essentially a unified identity that works across all of Blizzard's community sites. Presumably they're going to start rolling it out soon.
Perhaps the default BattleTag for people who don't explicitly set one is their Starcraft 2 ID, but then again, I have SC2 and there's no ID next to my name, so.... http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/battletagfaq |
You sure it's not your battle tag name ? Ok now I feel silly, you are correct. I just double checked my SC2 ID and you are correct, it is Noidentity#456 |

Of course it could also be a side effect of the web API the battle.net team are currently working on leaking into the live forums.

I made a post about this earlier because I wasn't sure if the forums were supposed to be showing our BattleTags. I deleted the post because a few seconds later I found this
A BattleTag™ is a unified, player-chosen nickname that will identify you across all of Battle.net – in Blizzard Entertainment games, on our websites, and in our community forums. Similar to Real ID, BattleTags will give players on Battle.net a new way to find and chat with friends they’ve met in-game, form friendships, form groups, and stay connected across multiple Blizzard Entertainment games. BattleTags will also provide a new option for displaying public profiles. |
|
|
At this point, there was no release date given of when the BattleTag system was going live though. It still seemed to be in the preliminary stages last I checked.
It is supposed to be moving towards it, but I didn't think it was quite ready yet. |

I have to agree. I'm all for the BT system, but this seems to be counterproductive when battling harassment. As TW stated, we don't know what the full intentions are with BT. According to the FAQ, however: BattleTags will ultimately give players on Battle.net a new way to manage public profiles, find and chat with friends they've met while playing, form groups, and stay connected across multiple Blizzard games. I'm quite sure Blizzard will allow an ignore feature, but what's to stop the harasser from doing what they already do: ask their friends and guildies to join in on the harassment. Also, if it's like RealID, then they will know the character you're currently playing. I would imagine a lot of players who want to avoid harassment switch to alts just to avoid said harassment but cannot safely do so if this is a feature to be implemented. |

From in the FAQ, the battle tag system, will work very similar to RealID. That yes, you will be able to see what the other person is doing. BUT, at the same time, compared to your friends list in wow, it will be more like the realID, where you have to ACCEPT the request for it.. they cant see you if you say no to the request. |

Touché, I have seemed to overlook this fairly important part. /lays down basket of tomatos /lays head in stock /sigh |

I know this thread hasn't seen a response in, like, forever. But to clarify, this was a bug and wasn't intended to go live yet in any form. We're still discussing how we want it to function on the forums. We've pushed an update to the website so that BattleTags are no longer displaying.
