He's already re-rolled. He tried a rogue twice and they died under level 10 so he re-rolled another warrior. I hope to see his name up there again soon.

Tanaris - Secrets in the OasisDo not believe the Wowhead posts that say the traitorous troll you end up fighting for this is no big deal. He is. He hits hard. He whirlwinds even when you disarm him. He puts a reasonably high dmg dot on you (which also lowers your strength). He has close to 4,000 hp. He supposedly runs off when you "defeat" him. I'm assuming that actually means 1hp left because even with only 200ish hp left he was still beating the crap out of me.I went back to try a second time after he chopped my poor little night elf head off thinking maybe I'd just screwed up. It went even worse (other than the part where I did manage to get shadowmeld off and escape that time). Maybe this guy is no big deal for another class, but it was undoubtedly the wrong quest to attempt on a warrior.*sigh* starting over....

Holy crap I'll echo this for sure. Didn't know what would happen since I never finished Tanaris originally. The troll *will* flag as a boss to you (even at 50-51) and has ~4K HP.

Fought normally at first and barely took him to half before I shadowmelded. Tried a second go and waited longer to meld. I took the first quarter life from him fast but then he started hitting harder and DoTing so my health went down fast. Melded when we both were at 300 HP and it seemed like my rend auto-triggered the wrap-up dialogue... whew.

Like I said, every day a new challenge and yet another heart-pounding moment. Should've read about this quest beforehand (though the air ele didn't give me an issue). Needless to say, I don't think I'll be venturing into ZF.

@Kahtraa - Thanks, good to hear. May he have better fortune this next go!

Frirst off

Does anyone know if BrittleIron fell? Noticed him up to 69 Warrior a couple days ago. Most unfortunate if so!

He said it was a pathing issue doing the Isle of Quel'Danas dailies. He charged a mob but it wasn't a straight charge, pathing curved around and through at least one other mob.

Now to some trouble spots.

A couple of general notes:

First:

I initially went to Northrend at lvl 70, thinking I'd cherry pick a few of the easier quests. this turned out to be a rather bad idea due to aggro ranges in that I was almost overwhelmed with lvl 71 sharks at one point (required a howl of terror fearbomb and hearth to get out of that one, after I killed the first 3 that aggo'd me). I recommend staying in Outland until 71 and preferably 72 due to aggro range alone.

Second:

I spent levels 71-76 bouncing between Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord. All quests in both zones continue to give full xp credit (~20k) even if they're a green quest until you reach lvl 77 at which time they drop to 16.5k exp. I quested somewhat in Dragonblight doing the Star's Rest, Tuskarr Village and Winterguard Keep quests. Following that I moved on and did most of the Grizzly Hills quests, and finished to 80 with the first 5 or so quests in Zul Drak.

Borean Tundra

Coldarra: Cracking the Code: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11931

Specifically getting the Azure codex from Caleras. He's surrounded by 2 rings of mobs. None of them are linked to him but it does require some careful positioning to pull the spellbinders without pulling him. He's a frost mage whose frostbolts hit harder than any spellcasters I've run into even in higher zones (My largest hit recieved, 2485 came from him, scary when you only have ~5800 health which I had at the time @lvl 75 when I did the quest). When he dies, if you kill him at his spawn point loot fast and get out of there because he will respawn in less than a min.

Frankly I recommend skipping this quest if you don't have any easy interrupts. Also in Coldarra, make sure when flying not to aggro the lvl 80 elite drakes. I've lost a couple of normal geared chars to those.

Farshire Quests:

The plague spreaders have a stacking damage debuff (killed my VW twice) and some odd aggro ranges since they will spawn and run to attack the farshire townspeople (and players) from well outside of normal aggro ranges.

The skeletonized guards inside the mine have a Mortal strike debuff

Any of the Named mobs for the CE quests can be nasty. I only killed Ned and Karen the culler (she has stealthed mobs near her)

Note:

Frankly it seems that a good many of the initial quests in both Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord have some type of stacking damage debuff/bleed effect etc.

I didn't do the quest out of Fizzcrank airstrip that led into the Magmataur cave to plant the horde banner/do the escort quest.

There's additionally a rare spawn that shows up near Fizzcrank airstrip (in a flying machine) I didn't see him but I've had two alts that have been jumped by him, in midair, while flying over those water areas for a nasty surprise.

Howling Fjord

Initial note:

I was a bit more careful in this zone as I haven't done the quests here as often or recently as the Borean Tundra ones.

The Shining Light: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11288

It should be easy and quick xp...but it has a long history of bugging in various ways. Personally I didn't take the risk this time around.

The Echo of Ymiron: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11343

Skipped because anything that starts talking about entering the spirit world makes me nervous. As far as I can tell from wowhead it won't give you a death but....

The Staff of Storm's Fury: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11511

Easy quest, nothing to fight actually, as long as you don't aggro the Elite (Abdul the Insane) that walks the top deck, did that on an alt once, didn't end well.

The Ancient Armor of the Kvaldir: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11567

Not partiuclarly difficult in an of itself but when you take the plane to the ship you'll be put into aggro radius of one of the mobs as soon as you get off the plane. Also the Vrykul have very short respawn times.

Falcon Vs Hawk: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11468

There's a mob close enough the rock you have to stand next to to do the quest that you have to kill him. If you don't finish the quest fast enough he will respawn and attack you while you are the eagle. You might not even realize you're being attacked.Ember Clutch quests:

I didn't do them initially (lvl 72) due to the large concentration of Mobs but came back at a higher level and finished them without incident. The eggs you kill from the Westguard keep quest spawn the whelps you need to kill for the quest (in additon to the large number of whelps running around the area). The dragonflayer handlers spawn a whelp as a pet when attacked. Skeld Drakeson has a knockback, I fought him in the house to prevent getting knocked into something I didn't want to aggro.Skorn quests:

I skipped these. My memory (and it's been a while so it may not be completely accurate) said that the seargent that "helps" you out has a nasty habit of pulling aggro when you don't want him too. Additionally the mage towers that you have to burn have some really annoying aggro radius making getting out of combat somewhat difficult.

Gajelbron quests:

Skipped all of these for two reasons. The first being that there are alot of multiple pulls up in the area with the added bonus of some elite lich's that wonder around. The second is that they're undead and at that level I was somewhat avoiding quests that involved undead. I really dislike quests that take that many of my defensive spells out of play.

Quests in Giants Run:

Based on previous bad experiences with alts, I avoided these as well. Memory says the giants have a damage buff they cast that makes them hit considerably harder than what their level would suggest they should. I didn't look them up, just said heck no and moved on. In fairness I was lvl 76 before I would have gotten around to doing them anyway.

Stars Rest:

At lvl 75-76 none of these quests were all that problematic. For the warlocks out there the blue caster mobs have a Shadow reflect spell, only shadow though which I found a bit odd, and useful since I was casting mostly fireI skipped all of the Wyrmrest temple quests, mostly because I didn't want to the Heated Battle quest:Wintergaurd Keep:

Had a couple of close calls here. The quests inside the Wintergarde Mausoleum (except the chain gun quest):

Respawns in the Mausoleum are fast, especially the Abominations (which can also chain you and pull you to them). I think I killed the one in the first hallway at least 6 times before I got the quest mobs in the side rooms finished and then I still had to continue on down to find Plunderbeard. The guards in the upper part of the Mausoleum will kill anything you pull up to them if you get in trouble.

I didn't do Thel'Zan's quest there http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12472.

It really shouldn't be a problem I don't think but I've had alts die on that quest before to various things.Secrets of the Scourge: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12312

You'll start getting attacked by ghouls as soon as you pick up the tome, (although according to a comment on wowhead it may have been nerfed at some point) until you at least get out of the crypt and possibly until you turn the quest in. I didn't die doing it but it got a bit hairy due to running into a couple of respawns before I got out of the crypt. I really should have avoided this one.

Grizzly Hills:

Escape from Silverbrook: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12308

I skipped this, previous experience has either been really easy or I ended up nearly getting killed in the process. I didn't risk it this time but not doing it locks out a good number of additional quests in the zone which is rather annoying.

Out of Body Experience: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12327

Shouldn't probably be a problem, but it has you drink a potion, and there's that whole out of body/spirit thing again.

Filling the Cages: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11984

for the pet users, Bud replaces your pet and he's a lousy tank if you happen to aggro something.

See you on the Other Side: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12121

I didn't risk this one, you die, though one comment says it doesn't show up on any death statistics I still didn't do it.

Going to chime in here with the lower left portion of Searing Gorge.

Any of the quests from Iron Summit need to be taken on slowly and carefully. The Dark Iron Marksmen thankfully don't move (much) unless you aggro them but for us Ironmen, their special bullets hit for nearly 200 on plate every 3-5 seconds. I would imagine it being much worse on cloth.

There are several pacing Incendosaurs (the big pinkish-red guys) strolling around that will gladly walk into your battle area as well, right when you think the dwarves were enough. Let an incendosaur get a fire attack off and it's a good 425+ hit.

The quest to burn the nearby towers "Set Them Ablaze!" might be best skipped. Went to the east tower's ropebridge and was stopped short by the two Dark Iron Lookouts patrolling both halfway across and at the far end. Started to fight one when both came and my health advantage disappeared in all of 2 seconds.

Shadowmelded at 200 HP (~10%), rested up to 400 when the pacing dwarf went on top of me (newly hit 54) and was enough of a proximity alert to break meld. Timed one single Frostweave tick to heal up to 1,000 and while debating if I had the HP to tank the 2K+-HP dwarf, my health gains were meleed and ranged back down.

Outright fled at 200 HP and the only thing saving my graces was that the Lookouts don't use bullets that hit for 200 at a time (more around 45-60 a hit). Was shot several times and...

Escaped the ranged aggro / chase radius at 21 HP. Kept doging every single thing from the tower after I saw I could finally mount as I ran back to Iron Summit all the while thinking I'd get too close to a lizard or such. Ran up the ramp, healed and promptly left the zone after a commencing of /pray spam in chat. I mean I know we all have close calls but no heals, no melding, no mounting and a sliver of life left I mean... Just...whew.

Nerves are shot for the night, haha.

It has been nerfed, but still very dangerous. The mobs will chase you out of the
mausoleum and do not despawn. I don't know if turning in the quest will despawn
them, but you don't have much time to try. Me, i feigned death. Also, when you
pick up the tomb you get a curse on you which drains your life very fast.

Netherstorm:

Spellbinder Maryana: for the Archmage's staff quest line.
Killed her for the staff quest and discovered she does an Arcane Blast (seemed like 2k). She respawned later and pulled with a random mob I needed for another quest. Hit me with a 6k ! Blast before I could close with her. One-shot overkill.

Blade's Edge Mountains:

The various drakes for the quest "Which Came First, the Drake or the Egg" also do hard-hitting Arcane Blasts. Interrupt them.

The Battle of Darrowshire. I'm glad I got a chance to see it and also glad I did not try to finish it. The problem is that when evil Redpath shows up, three powerful mobs spawn and run from him toward the battle, and I managed to pull them and had to shadowmeld to avoid being killed by them. It was a close call.

So I didn't find a way to get Redpath alone so I could safely attack him.

Another player showed up while I was in the middle of the battle and they one-shotted the dangerous mobs, while I stood stealthed on the hill and watched. But I felt bad and abandoned the quest instead of turning it in. Granted, it's not my fault and I wouldn't say someone else should have to choose as I did. This quest is at almost the end of the quest chain and can be skipped anyway. I did get to see the whole event and talk to the npcs later without having to turn it in.

Some of the comments about this quest on wowhead also mention bugginess.

And while I'm thinking of quests that lead you to be attacked by multiple mobs, I was attacked by 5 regular mobs at the same time, while doing Defend the Drill in Thousand Needles. I also shadowmelded to survive that, with a small amount of health left. I think the quest must be on a timer because I had survived long enough to get credit anyway.

I completely forgot about the curse actually, I think that might be what goes away when you turn in the quest and not the spawned shades. Knowing at least some of what was coming I sacced my VW for the shield before I picked up the book and then ran out. It wouldn't have been nearly as much of an issue had I not run through the two respawns on the way back out.

I turned in the quest immediately but ended up with 2 respawns and a couple of shades still deal with, which required some fancy footwork involving my VW dieing, Soulburn+instant summon VW, Dropping an infernal and a few other things that I don't remember. I think I used Deathcoil for the heal, and used the VW shield a second time when it came off cooldown on the second VW. It was dicey.

Noticed a surprising lack of Felwood info through these pages so figured I'd add some now that I went into the corruption to play ;)

Zone: Felwood
Quests: The Core of Kroshius

In that same area you can also look out for a slightly larger than normal rocky demon infernal as a silver rare named Immolatus around the area you kill the regular guys for a quest.

Kroshius can't be missed, being HUGE with lots of green fire around him and 4K+ HP
Immolatus has 5.5K HP as well.

I thought, oh no problem (well as a warrior at least), I'm a good 9 or so levels over these guys, they're grey, and won't be any issue like the regular mobs in the zone.

Wrong. Both start hitting like normal and ramp up around 2/3 to 1/2 life left. Their hits went from the typical 40s-80s on plate to 200+ a hit, very fast.

Immolatus has a nasty knockup/back that'll punt you around and I think, stun

Kroshius has an immolate with fire damage DoT every 3 seconds, making it risky to shadowmeld even if running away.

While the regular infernals are smashable, the typical pushover silver mob in this case is quite nasty and the "boss" of this questchain is best skipped.

--------------------

There may be other Felwood issues but I only did the first quarter of the zone (including the fire-barrier quests and up to the first camp) or so. There may be others quests here that for us Ironmen are best left alone.

For the quest Secrets in the Oasis in Tanaris, Mazoga hits really hard, enough to overwhelm my healing when I tried to melee him. This is unusual. I had to play the roots and dots game with him and I was mana drained enough at the end of it that I had an escape route planned if it came to that.

Trying to think if that was on the first page or if I had also posted about him. It's not necessarily his slightly higher health that's the problem... it's the damage he puts out. Glad to hear you also survived! He took me a couple times as well.

Thousand Needles (Not sure if it's already posted. I didn't see it. If it is, please ignore this.) :)

Defend the Drill --- I don't know if the number of adds that come is random or what. I have done this numerous times on other toons and always had 1 add come...then 1 more...then 2...then done. From my exp questing up until lvl 44 on this toon, I knew I could handle the 2 when they came...even if one from before wasn't completely down. This time I had 1. Almost immediately after I had 2 come. Then 2 more. Then 2 more. (Can we say "yikes"??) Had to blow all CDs and use LoH. Down to 100 mana [Hp was fine (~80%)]...but no mana=melee dmg output only and certainly no healing). Not sure how other classes have fared. I don't think I would risk it again.

Zone: Swamp of Sorrow
Quest: Step Two: The Bloodletter

The quest mob, Gomora the Bloodletter, summons blood worms and hit much harder than other mobs around his level.

Quest: In With a Bang:

The giberlins on the boat has insanely fast respawn rate; less than a minute. The boat was also bugged such that multiple people from wowhead reported dying mysteriously when entering the cabin. Should avoid this quest. Thankfully I wasn't able to beat the respawn rate to enter the cabinet to try that! :)

Just got to these today and I'll strongly agree to both being challenging or having issues.

I had to use an assisted victory rush off a nearby mob to even drop the Bloodletter in time. If it weren't for my level 60 weapon helping get him down, I don't think I would've lived. Tried him a second time after shadowmelding and beat him with only ~700HP left. I'm quite sure warriors would have trouble with this guy and his bloodworms below 60 so skip him. If you are above 60, it's still a very calculated risk where victory is not guaranteed. If you skip him you'll only miss out on his quest exp and two more quests following it. Not an overly big deal but annoying, I know. But again the game here is living, not just finishing quests.

Wowhead had numerous reports of people dying on the "In With A Bang" quest or if not dying, having the mobs respawn incredibly fast. Didn't even bother with the quest. Thank you for posting about it as it seemed harmless enough. If it weren't for Ironform's post and checking these pages out before doing the area I probably would've died. THANK YOU!
