Megaupload shutdown, 4 arrested.

They did not sell content, though. They only sold access to their site. You are right, though. Youtube, Google, Facebook and similar websites are seemingly untouchable. Although, what scares me is that there are also huge global (and influential) forces behind SOPA / PIPA. I really hope they don't start taking down websites one by one until there is almost nothing left to prey on but Youtube, Google and Facebook / Twitter. |

Comparing youtube to a site like Megauload is like comparing a T-bone steak to a big mac. Both are beef and a source of food, but quality is not there. |

I find it quite saddening how everyone seems to be attacking Megaupload yet not mentioning anything about Youtube. If you think Megaupload is bad then there is really no defending Youtube (which I am sure all of us have enjoyed using and most likely still do).

It's kind of sick that copyright infringement carries a harsher penalty than !###. This times 10000000000000. This world disgusts me. |

Except Youtube is completely free and doesn't give away content, they just make their money off the adds. Infact, they observe copyright laws and forbid anyone on their payroll from displaying copyrighted content on their videos. Youtube partners can't even play Yaketysacks or else the video will get removed. |

i know pirating is wrong but c mon 55yrs? yet people that commit murders and realOnce again, it's probably time that's been compounded across multiple charges. They're responsible for a lot of stolen content. |

But their members can display and upload copyright material and that is all good and well? |

Experiment. Use your fingers and count. How many youtube videos do you know that were shut down due to copyright issues, by youtube. Now, do the same for Mega. Which has more fingers? I bet the answer has tube in it. |

No it's you're... as in 'you are' an idiot >.> Best part of this is the backlash. This is why you don't mess with the internet. |

Youtube doesn't actually give you access to an illegally pirated game file, it just lets you look at videos. Companies who don't want their product on Youtube have every right to have the video taken down, because Youtube will crack down on users posting illegal content. |

I bet the answer has tube in it. Very weak argument as there is not a video on Youtube that has been taken down when other youtube uploads of the same video remain up. |

... I just said that they couldn't. You're either a troll or you fail horribly at reading comprehension.Infact, they observe copyright laws and forbid anyone on their payroll from displaying copyrighted content on their videos. Youtube partners can't even play Yaketysacks or else the video will get removed. "On their payroll" includes youtube 'partners' as well, which is anyone who Youtube pays to post content. Now, whether or not real action can be taken against non-partners aside from deleting the video, I don't know. Anyway, it's 12:30 here, so I'm going to sleep. |

Youtube has rules against pirated content, and will promptly remove any pirated content at the true owner's request. |

Youtube doesn't actually give you access to an illegally pirated game file, it just lets you look at videos. Ok, so bar video games, you still have the music industry suing Youtube left and right and yet Music videos are still posted up. Why would anyone purchase a CD or a DVD when you have the whole damn thing on Youtube? Unless you are a die hard fan and perhaps wish to support your artist of choice. |
