ACTA signed in Canada, USA and Australia

Title says it all, as most of my threads state.
Canada, USA and Austraila have all signed ACTA. If you thought SOPA and PIPA were bad, think again. ACTA effectively gives your internet service provider the ability to track and record what you do online, and it also forces your ISP to report these things to the government. This is a direct oppression of free speech and if ACTA passes, you can kiss the free internet goodbye. https://www.accessnow.org/page/s/just-say-no-to-acta 24k more signatures to go. Forgot to mention. Right now, Europe is the only country yet to sign. This is the only thing keeping ACTA from going live. As it's an international statement, if Europe doesn't sign and opposes it, it will basically dismantle it all together. This petition is to convince the European government that ACTA is ill-intentioned and that they should stand against it. I know a few people have gone to the WoW-EU forums with this already. |

This is the very first time I've ever even heard of this... rather alarming. |

Is this legit?

Why is everyone trying to ruin the internet...
|
|

I don't necessarily disagree with Governments being able to track our data, but I do fear that Governments and Special Interest Groups can and will abuse this trust the first chance they get.

Signed as well.
Why are we just hearing about this now? It says the US signed this thing last year. Where was the uproar? |
|
|
Signed as well. It went virtually under the table. What WAS said last year was basically considered rumor and hoax. With the attention SOPA and PIPA drew, they used that as a cover while they tried to pass ACTA again. |

Bump to keep this at the top as long as possible~

I'm not going to lie I'll never use the internet again if this goes through. I'll go dark.

I'll go with you. We'll go to the Mandarin mountains and somehow conceive a child who is randomly pregnant at the age of 19 and then the movie Babylon A.D happens. |

In a way, as a long time participate in the war for a free internet... I'm happy they tried to get away with SOPA. It brought to the attention of the world things like the fight for Net Neutrality. This !@#$ isn't falling under the radar anymore.
As for why people are trying to ruin the internet? For two reasons. Corporate interest wants control over your internet so that they can profit as much as possible off you. The Government wants control of the internet because the sharing of thoughts and ideas is never good for business. Truth hurts. Ask the Middle East, where the Internet is literally responsible for revolutions. Turn internet into the next TV and you once again control the information that people digest. At this point, you control the internet... you control the people. And people are just too crazy to be left to make their own decisions, right? They'll take that right away from you. This isn't tin foil hat %^-*, either. These mother!@#$ers get away with this sort of thing because they work hard on downplaying the significance of it and the public buys it. So keep fighting. Something like ACTA passes and even posting in this thread puts you on the radar as a danger to interests that would rather just use you as a battery. |

You can't. Honestly if you feel that strongly about it then you don't just leave. You take up the cause. Going dark is a social step back. Right now the internet is ours. It isn't ours because we were entitled to it. We hatched it and grew it. Now we have to fight for it because quite honestly, someone has been trying to steal our baby every week for a very, very long time. |

I'm gonna keep fighting, even if it passes. I'm not going down quietly.
