A 64-bit client is once again available for use with Patch 4.3.3. Before being able to launch WoW in 64-bit mode, you will need to fully patch up to 4.3.3 first and then download the 64-bit client for Mac (using the link below), and unzip it into your World of Warcraft directory. Once you extract the files you can start the 64-bit client by opening the Launcher as normal.

I just gave the Mac 64-bit client a try on my macbook (a early 2010 Unibody Macbook, and I have Lion running on it). It runs fine with one minor issue: if I switch to Windowed mode, the whole WoW window is black with the exception of the UI. I can still move around (as evidenced by being able to watch the minimap move), and I can even click on things assuming I can actually find something to click on, but the world itself is black. When I switch back to full-screen, it works fine.

Thank you for that feedback. I'll send that one up to Padim and S4d1k so they can look at this.

Here's a follow-up: I increased the view distance from Good to Ultra (something I couldn't do before without a significant framerate hit, but it's working fine now!) and the black window issue disappeared. |

I updated Warcraft to 4.3.2. I downloaded the 64-bit client and plopped into my WoW folder with the rest of the application. When I try to start it, I get an error that says:
"This beta 64-bit version of World of Warcraft does not match the installed version of the game. You must acquire a new 64-bit executable in order to keep using the 64-bit version, or instead use the 32-bit version." I've looked through the forums and I've only seen one other instance of this message but it referred to the ptr version, which I don't have. I'm running a MacBook Pro Late 2011 with Lion and all updates. I've deleted my wtf, cache and all add-ons. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

I'm having similar issues. 10.6.8 on an early 2010 MBP, my screen size keeps changing to 800x600 when the login screen comes up and it comes up in full screen windowed mode even thogh it's set to full screen. It would be a minor issue, but fixing it causes a bigger problem. This issue happened a few patches ago and the work around was to switch to full screen windowed and then back to full screen. If I do that now, when I minimize I get some flickers, a solid black wow window, and a system wide ui freeze.
On the upside the frame rate stutter when turning is gone. |

I noticed an increase of almost 13mb of addon memory usage with the 64bit client. Also, instead of less stutter, I'm having more stutter while turning (enough to make me revert to the 32bit client).
On the other side, it uses less CPU and less RAM when doing the same tasks (opened both - one at a time - side by side with activity monitor). Also, I have some FPS huge drops on the 64bit client more often then on the 32 one. Mid 2k10 MPB 13" (320M Nvidia), 4Gb Ram. |

I've got the same issues as Teliah above. Going into windowed mode causes the screen to go black (although the bottom UI items are visible). By clicking on the options menu to bring up the video options while windowed, it sends the vertical sync and multisampling options to the upper left hand side of the window, completely outside the options dialog window. Also, the windowed version is larger in screen size than running the windowed version previously.
Also, when first starting the client, it seems to forget the resolution of the computer's monitor and defaults to 800x600. Running at the "good" graphics option, the performance seems lessened compared to the 32-bit version. For instance, being near any water drives the fps down to below 30 fps while I can get 45 fps+ in the 32-bit in the exact same location. Video "stuttering" seems worse as well. I tested both of these in Darnassus with only a few other players around. My computer: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac11,2 Processor Name: Intel Core i3 Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 8 GB Processor Interconnect Speed: 5.86 GT/s Boot ROM Version: IM112.0057.B00 SMC Version (system): 1.64f5 Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74) edited for grammar mistake |

Some say addon usage going up is a good thing, for they are not "shrinked" by RAM issues.
Is that correct at all? Taking a second look, the decrease was a "placebo effect". I had a 1-3 fps increase. Stutter is the same on heavy conditions. Now, if the addon usage going up is a good thing, I'll stick to the 64bit, for it's faster to load and all. If it's not, or at least, not "working as intended", I'll stay with the 32bit until the 64 client gets fine tuned. But for that, I'd need an expert answer (you don't have to be blue or green to convince me xD). |

Barsam -- Did you check to be sure your Mac is running the 64-bit kernel? I think it should by default on your machine, but it may be worth checking just to be sure. That link at the end of the first post shows how to check.
Just sort of spit-balling here, since I didn't encounter that problem. If your game client has been patched and you didn't install the PTR, it seems like it should work. Did you also try deleting the 64-bit client and downloading it again? I see on WoW Insider that there were early reports of version validation errors that sound like what you're seeing. But that was yesterday, so it should have been cleared up by now... |

Just tried this out, hoping the 64-bit client would help with some longstanding performance issues.
It installed just fine and launched fine. Macbook Pro 2.66 i7 4 GB memory NVIDIA GT330M 512 MB. I did a quick check with Activity Monitor before installing and after installing. Before the kernel_task was using around 680 MB of real memory and WoW around 620. After installing the kernel_task was down to 480 or so while WoW was over 800. Latency seemed to drop a bit as well, though I'm guess that's just a coincidence and not related to the 64-bit client. Are these the types of memory usage changes I'd expect to see? I thought WoW would have been using more memory to begin with. |

For those of you running OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard) make sure you are running with 64 bit kernels and extensions to get the most out of the 64 bit client. If you look at this article it shows the performance difference on a few processor intensive performance between 64 bit and 32 bit.
http://macperformanceguide.com/SnowLeopard-Performance.html To check and see if your system is running with the 64 bit kernels, 1.) Scroll over apple menu 2.) Hold Alt 3.) Select "System Profiler" 4.) Under content scroll down and select "Software" 5.) Make sure it says Yes next to "64 bit Kernels and Extensions" If it does not say Yes then you are currently not running the 64 bit Kernels. In order to activate it you will need to restart your computer. When your mac has fully shut down and begins to restart press and hold 6 and 4 on your keyboard right after the chime until the apple logo appears. Perform the steps above to check if you did in fact load the 64 bit kernels. You will have to do this every time you start up to run in 64 bit mode. There is a way to make it always start up with the 64 bit kernels but I HIGHLY suggest you make sure you dont have any software issues before you move on. You will also be changing some of your start up files so BACK UP your system before you move on. To make your system always start with 64 bit kernels, 1.)Go to Applications/Utilities and open up terminal 2.) Enter the command line sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64If you decide to revert back to 32 bit follow the same steps but enter in sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386

To comment on the 64 bit performance, Its running great but the cut scenes in dragon soul do not play at all. When a cut scene trys to play the screen lags and stutters for a second or two and then is fine but the cut scene is never played.

I'm not sure why I can't get the 64 bit client working. I'm running on a 2010 Mac Pro with 64 bit kernel/ext. I've installed the client file in my wow folder and then clicked the launcher. I click play and after a few seconds the dot on the dock showing that the launcher is running disappears. Nothing happens. Any ideas?

This client is fantastic. On my 2011 MBP, I have all settings max except shadows (good) and am getting 45-60 fps in Org, even on ultra. I normally cap my fps at 30, but I capped it at 60 just to test. Very, very smooth.
Even in Twilight Highlands where things went to hell near that purple volcano, I am 20-45, vs 5-15. Running 10.7.2, and using a OWC SSD. Also, this patch freed up 8.2gb of disk space. Awesome patch. |

I am getting a note on the Mac 64bit client saying Cinematic not found on the DS cut scene between bosses.
UPDATED 2-1 and cinematic were working fine in full screen mode in DS. I sent in a crash report from the other night related to movie proxy server in OS X. |
