I'm getting random disconnects since this patch. Doesn't matter where, or with what's going on the screen. Zoned into Dalaran - disconnect. Hanging out in Durotar - disconnect. Getting off a bird in Ironforge - disconnect. Surfing the bank in Org (not the main bank, a quieter one) - disconnect.

This only started since the patch, so I'm mightily assuming it's not my internet/router.

I'll add.. US/Argent Dawn/Horde & Alliance. Mid 2010 i3 iMac, 5670, etc.

I've had similar issues on my MacBook. Sometimes I go hours with no issue, and sometimes I'll get a half dozen disconnects inside of an hour. This problem started after the patch and only effects my MacBook. My desktop running Windows 7 has no problems.

Incidentally, I dual box with one character on the desktop and the other on the laptop. Both computers are connected to the same network, but only the laptop has issues regardless of which account is running on it.

using airport wireless? there was a firmware update recently to address this kind of issue worth trying.

you could also be lagging more then usual if the game isn't fully downloaded, if you run launcher does it say "up to date" or is it downloading or applying non critical updates?

My game is fully downloaded, but I didn't have the firmware update on my base station. I updated that, but the problem still remains.

Curiously it seems to be worse in some in game areas over others, and some characters don't have issues in those areas while others do. I've also noticed that changing graphics settings seem to trigger the disconnect more often.

1. I'm hardwired to the internet.
2. Traceroute was to Argent Dawn server.

I'm not the only one with these issues.. LOTS of people from all over them realms/country/world have the issues since the last patch or at least the last restart. You need only go to the tech support (for PC) forum to see all the threads on it.

Thanks for the reports. For everyone that is having this issue, can you post the following information:

    1. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
    2. Your City/State:
    3. What OS X version you are on (i.e. 10.6.8, 10.7.3, etc):
    4. What Realm are you on?
    5. Have you tried power-cycling your network devices?
    6. If you have a router, have you tried bypassing that, and direct connect to your modem?
    7. Do you have any security applications installed?
    8. Any specific actions you were doing before getting disconnected (drinking, jumping, etc)

9. Is your game FULLY downloaded, (ie 100%, launcher says up to date, not downloading, or applying non critical updates).

10. What bandwidth your internet connection is.

slower connections may not be ideal for streaming mode and if you had a lot left to download when you hit play. or you didn't let the cache finish (this also triggers streaming and download mode), you could see a performance loss and additional lag.

1. Roadrunner.
2. Lodi, NY.
3. 10.6.8 (I have Lion - got it at release, but my quality of play seemed to suffer with it, not sure what happened, reverted afterward and haven't gone back).
4. Argent Dawn/US
5. Yes.
6. Yes.
7. No.
8. Drinking is the most common occurrence (at least I can almost make it a repeatable dc when smashed) and I think it has to do with the crazy drunken turns... Small spaces and turning can sometimes do it as well. It doesn't seem to happen in BGs though? I usually drink a rum before that starts and have yet to be disconnected.
9. Yes.
10. Cable (turbo variety from Roadrunner - 10-15mbps)

When you get disconnected is it disconnecting your whole internet ?

Would it be possible to run a traceroute to us.logon.battle.net immediately after being disconnected and post that ?

What is the make and model of your modem/router/whatever you use to connect to the internet ?

No, it is not disconnecting my internet. It's just a disconnecting to the login screen, no warning, I can log right back on. It's a Linksys WRT54GS - and I'm at work, so, likely no traceroute for a good long while. Yes, the firmware has been updated. It's not the cable modem hooked up to the router, as that is practically brand new and I've had no power surges or thunderstorms or whatever to make it go kaflooey.

I'd like to take this point to mention that I'm not the only one with this issue, even though you make it sound like I am (I know that may not be intentional). This seems to be an issue for a great many folks and it's only been since the last patch, so... You know... 1+1 = 2.

Linksys WRT54GS

actually linksys are known for wow problems if firmware is not up to date. i'd see if you can find a firmware update for that and see if it resolves.

Sorry, i missed that somehow.

Have you tried bypassing it, that model number is quite quite old, even updated, the firmware might still have the problems.

Doing some google searches, That router is just known for being a pile of crap for online games in general :\ It's not even just wow, it has a tendancy to drop connections, even with updated firmware. Just less problematic with updated firmware. I'd be really curious if you still have problems bypassing it, if not it answers question, if you do it'd give us something else to look at since it'd be eliminated from chain of hardware as a causing factor.

Look. I've had zero problems with this router since I bought it. I've played WoW on it flawlessly for 2 years. It's updated, it's working peachy keen, it never has any problems with anything else at all.

How many threads have you seen on technical support about dc issues? How many? Need I link them all? How many players have the same issue I have - SINCE THE PATCH??

I mean, come on...

I'd point to the router too if it was happening before and after the patch or if it was disconnecting me from other things I do online. The fact is, however, that it's only WoW and it's only since the last patch.

Did it occure to you the patch could have changed something the ROUTER doesn't like? you still need to diagnose all componants as if any one of them could be responsible. I'd think it'd be worth ruling it out for 1 minute worth of testing. If The patch itself were defective on it's own, millions would be complaining not a few dozen, that indicates it's a COMBINATION of factors, patch being one of them probably, but the diagnoses is the finding of what the SECOND factor is, not going "it's the patch and only the patch".
