Have you given your life to service of the Banshee Queen? Have you dedicated your existence to pleasing our Dark Lady, Sylvanas Windrunner?

If so, welcome, Hypnosquid Nyorloth!

If not, repent unclean scum!

(Jk, welcome to the forums! Look forward to some interactions with you)

, Total Biscuit would have liked the new guy. Top hat, you know.
He'd have to get over his "I whine like a wannabe hardcore while barely being a casual" complex first.

A question segwaying into this topic, that I have always been curious about (well at least since BC):

If the World of Warcraft has an entire team behind its story development, why does it have more plot holes and inconsistencies - with a smaller universe - than those in books created and maintained by a single person? Okay, maybe an argument can be made about writers just failing to be on the same page, but that would lend even more reason to believe that there has to be a grand design document maintained somewhere.

I've seen some suggest that the scope of Warcraft lore is just so massive that it's hard to keep it all in check, but come on. That's just not true. Warcraft makes a fine show of appearing larger than it is, but in reality, the combined lore of the series could fit in a footnote of your favorite series of novels.

Not to ninja this from a potential blue response, but the inconsistencies you encounter may come from ideas that were implemented but then abandoned through development based on current game conditions and demands.

For instance, waterworld raid.

Hi Nyorloth.
I represent the former fandom, the former rabid lore-nerd, whose trust Blzzard has completely lost, whose faith Blizzard has widdled upon, and whose hope lies as sand and ash on the ground.
I have no fear of Lovecraftian horrors, nor of banhammers, as only a month remains on my cancelled sub.
This new addition is intriguing. So let's be blunt, shall we?
Does this mean that your superiors have an intention of finally addressing the glaring lore concerns, the reprehensible and lamentable abandonment of played races and racial involvement, the mishandling of active played races in ways which are well past the event horizon and accelerating in terms of consistency?

Or is this a stunt to shut up the complainers, and you're a lamb tossed to wolves for as long as you can bear it, with no actual power or influence beyond preventing any proposed exodus to a wider fan base with potential negative mobs forming?

If you and the team which would be required to join you are actual, real and potent agents of change, you have the sliver of possible hope to win back the subscribers like me who have ceased handing over our monthly blood sacrifice. Isn't that nice? I keep reading this forum even now purely from the tiniest shred of hope that it isn't some hideous corporate act to dupe a paying consumer base to keep forking over cash for an increasingly poor product with little to no internal coherence.

If this is a flash in the pan, a facade designed to manage the masses until a new shiny toy is waved to ideally further distract them from debate or complaint or even recognition of their travail, then by all means, indicate your intent.

You're going to be working with a community who holds within it people like me, and people who were like me before I liberated myself with a click of a button. I'm happy to assist you via my cynicism if you are said agent of change in a genuine sense, and happy to help you either win people like me back, or prevent others who are undecided from hitting the same button I have. If that information helps your corporate superiors shift more working minds to address the glaring problems in this game, then I'll have done something useful and helpful for my fellows.

But here's a tip:
don't promise what you cannot deliver, and don't abandon fans of the story. There's been alot too much of that, and there's a lot of jaded people out there.
I strongly suggest a rational approach, likely beginning with a community-assisted effort to simply build and manage and agree upon an actual timeline for WoW's history. This community here are a vast asset to your company. They have a better appreciation for the fine nuances of the story to date than anyone thus far seen within the company, given the various public slip-ups and ingame errors. I suggest that you give them concrete goals and work through baby steps, utilizing their expertise in a way which helps Blizzard and empowers the community to alter their growing frustration and sense of impotence.

I remember when Nyorloth came to our department the cold, the twisted, the terrible Community offices of unnumbered crimes. Our manager had told me of him, and of the impelling fascination and allurement of his revelations, and I burned with eagerness to explore his uttermost mysteries. Our manager said they were horrible and impressive beyond my most fevered imaginings; and what was thrown on a screen in the darkened room prophesied things none but Nyorloth dared prophesy, and in the whirl of his papers there was taken from men that which had never been taken before yet which showed only in the eyes. And I heard it hinted abroad that those who knew Nyorloth looked on sights which others saw not.

It was in the cold winter that I went through the night with the restless Community moderators to see Nyorloth; through the stifling night and up the endless stairs into the choking room. And shadowed on a screen, I saw wailing forms buried under Global Writing Contest entries, and grinning faces hidden amidst ruins of cities. And I saw worlds battling against blackness; against the waves of destruction from ultimate space; whirling, churning, struggling around the dimming, cooling suns. Then the paper storm played amazingly around the heads of the spectators, and hair stood up on end whilst shadows more grotesque than I can tell came out and squatted on the heads. And when I, who was colder and more scientific than the rest, mumbled a trembling protest about paper cuts and ocular fortitude, Nyorloth drove us all out, down the dizzy stairs into the damp, hot, deserted developer offices. I screamed aloud that I was not afraid; that I never could be afraid; and others screamed with me for solace. We swore to one another that the Community offices were exactly the same, and filled with purpose; and when the florescent lights sometimes do fade we curse the electric company over and over again, and laugh at the strange faces we make.

What I know of Nyorloth is his inscrutable purpose; sinisterly sentient, dumbly delirious, only the Old Gods can tell. To look upon him now I see a sickened, sensitive shadow writhing in hands that are not hands, and whirl blindly past ghastly midnights of rotting creation, corpses of dead worlds with sores that were cities, charnel winds that brush the pallid stars and make them flicker low. Beyond these worlds vague ghosts of monstrous things; half-seen columns of unsanctifled temples that rest on nameless rocks beneath space and reach up to dizzy vacua above the spheres of light and darkness. And through this revolting graveyard of the universe the muffled, maddening beating of drums, and thin, monotonous whine of blasphemous flutes from inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond Time; the detestable pounding and piping whereunto dance slowly, awkwardly, and absurdly the gigantic, tenebrous Old Gods the blind, voiceless, mindless gargoyles whose soul is Nyorloth.

I could follow so little of that post. Have no idea what he's writing about other than reading story contest entries...

Welcome, by the way! Great to have somebody in Blue who focuses on Lore!

I agree for the most part.

EDIT: Glad you were able to be much more civil than I was with some of my older threads.
