{Tenets of the Shade's Grasp Sect}

Compassion:
Though they speak against thee with malicious intent, seek not the blood of those blinded by the glare of Light's servitude or struck deaf, dumb, and blind to the blessings of the Shadow without just cause. Know now and pity those, whom know not the comfort of the Unseen and their guiding hands, for nothing prosperous dwells within them - their flesh is as salt, stagnating the fertile land of their potential.

Unto them, whom would transgress against you and give just cause for their death, devote yourself to the destruction of all they have. Spare them not, but kill both man and woman, youngling and babe, bull and sheep, steed and donkey.

~Book of Shades, Word of Haliseth, Chpt. 1

Death:
Put not your blade to work, as the rabid hound doth his fangs to flesh, lest you become gorged upon the blood of the fallen and made a sacrifice unto battle. Yet, let not your blade rust due to inaction to right injustices to person or property, lest wolves believe you a sheep fit for slaughter. Balance this fragile state for it leadeth to transcendence beyond the brief sojourns of dynasties, the measured beats of mortal hearts, and turning of worlds to ash.

~Book of Shades, Word of Haliseth, Chpt. 2

Power:

Forasmuch then were we children, born of flesh and blood, as are we now; whom have forsook the temptations of that corruptible flesh and easily spilt blood that we might attain power over they that would visit death upon us! Woe unto him whom possess a proud heart that stirreth up strife, for it is he that would offer his brother a cup clean on the outside, yet stained with the iniquities of a soul garbed in excess and foolishness.

Verily, I say woe unto you, the hypocrite that would chastise they that seek power. It is you whom keep company with the usurper! Let it be known, if any that you call kinsman be a defiler, or covetous of power he hath not earned, or a zealot that would bring ruin unto the legacy of those that came before, or a railer that seeketh not his own power but mewl plenty of that garnered by others; such is not one to set forth and break bread with!

For in thy soul is it known, that no sloth incapable of setting forth on his own, nor unambitious person, nor covetous serpent, who is a defiler, hath any inheritance to power everlasting.

~Book of Shades, Word of Haliseth, Chpt. 3

Perseverance:

"Blessed is he that endureth temptation and adversity, for it is not in his soul to falter, whether in action or deed. For it is not in his soul, when tried by forces mundane or mighty, to stumble and beg sympathy. For it is in his soul to achieve grandeur through the Shadow and all boons associated therein. It is not in his soul to be weary or slothful in his doing, lest the harvest come and he have nothing to reap, due to a faint heart or weak will."

~Book of Shades, Word of Haliseth, Chpt. 4

{Guild Origins}

From as far away as Durotar to as near as Deathknell they hailed, traveling great and miniscule distances to meet under the canopies of Tirisfal Glade. Prestigious or common, Orc or Sindorei, Knight or Blacksmith; they all had come for the same reason - to hear the words of the 'Father' and behold the vision granted his 'Voice'. These individuals, dressed in dark robes that varied from plain to ostentatious, did not see scullery maids or landlords in the pews beside them; but brothers and sisters in faith - kinsmen whom shared their devotion and hunger for a united purpose.

From that night of worship and enlightenment emerged the 'Chapel of Night', a sect of shadow-worshipers whose desire for the unity of their sister sects is as strong as their fervor in the Shadow itself. Thus, hidden amongst Silvermoon's notable socialite circles; tucked away in the legions of Orgrimmar's ruthless legions; and even secreted into the plains of Mulgore did the word of the 'Father' take root and grow in the hearts of the ambitious, downtrodden, and rejected.

{Guild Inspiration}
In late December, a post called, "A Call to Arms" in response to the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" thread posted by Volanaro of Dominion of the Sun. This post set off a chain of events that would soon give birth to "CoN/Chapel of Night".

Inspired by the storyline shared between the Dominion of the Sun and the Clergy of Holy Light, I developed my own group which viewed the turmoil caused by the conflict as the catalyst to initiate its plans. This group is a sect of the religious organization, The Cult of Forgotten Shadow, which calls Andorhal home. For the most part, the rebuilding of Andorhal and its surroundings is their professed goal, though as you read on you'll see there is so much more in store should we grow.

On a side note, it is well-known that the CoFS (Cult of Forgotten Shadow) and the CoL (Church of Light), are oft in constant conflict with one another. At times they even enter open conflict, personal militias or even bands of zealous worshipers, exchanging blows. I will happily acknowledge there is no love lost between these "opposites sides of the coin", but advise any interested in joining to flavor this hostility towards the "common foe" with subtlety and forethought. Many of my own characters are quite hostile towards worshipers of the Light. However, in order to effectively pursue the goals of the guild and to realistically portray the religious and political conflict these two engage in, they do not hold the overtly zealous and carelessly aggressive in high regard.

Guild Ranks

In regards to ranks, CoN breaks its ranks into four tiers.

The first tier pertains to members of the trial ranking and characters, whom are non-combatants and not members of the clergy itself. Basically, it is composed of the laity, which ranges from the everyday parishioner (worshiper) to a missionary volunteers and similar. The ranks that fall under this tier are: Follower, Parishioner, and Lay-worshiper. The latter of which possess privileges identical to "Regular Member" and "Veteran Member" ranks.

The second tier pertains to characters that are members of the clergy itself, and usually see to the day-to-day operations of the church, as well as the needs of the parishioners whom look to them for guidance. The ranks that fall under this tier are: Acolyte, Disciple, and Canon. The latter of which possess privileges identical to "Regular Member" and "Veteran Member" ranks.

The third tier pertains to characters that serve as high-ranking members of the clergy, similar in their capacity to cardinals, and normally oversee the specific groups within the church that take care of certain tasks from day-to-day. The ranks that fall under this tier are: Woespeaker and Revenant. Both of which possess privileges identical to "Sub-Officer" and "Officer" ranks.

Last but not least is the fourth tier, which is fully explained at our guildsite, where you can find more in-depth explanations of the tiers and even ranks.

  • Bishop
  • Revenant (Officer)
  • Woespeaker (Sub-Officer)
  • Canon (Veteran Member-Clergy)
  • Disciple
  • Acolyte
  • Lay-worshiper (Vet. Member/Non-Combatant)
  • Parishioner
  • Follower (Initiate/Trial Rank)
  • ___________________________________________________________________________

  • Priest/Priestess

    Guild Sections

  • Path of the Voice
  • The Path of the Voice is tread upon by those with a gift for the dissemination of information. Only the truly devout walk such a path, as it is fraught with the danger of corruption through zealotry and hate, which could distance one from the tenets of the Shadow. It is the path upon which acolytes seeking to become inquisitors, lightslayers, etc

  • Path of the Guardian
  • The Path of the Guardian is walked by those with a gift for battle and the conviction to stand their ground even against the most relentless assault. They are the church's fist and the 'shepherd's shield', safeguarding them from the wolves that would prey upon them. It is the path upon which acolytes seeking to become battle-clerics and templars (also known as hatebearers).

  • Path of the Shepherd
  • The Path of the Shepherd is a road upon which those devoted to spreading the Shadow's will to all mortals march. Through 'Black Mass' and the administration of the sacraments do the shepherds proclaim the 'Night Father's' revelation to the world. From their lungs rises the message of salvation for all ears, as well as the wisdom of ages to help guide fledgling clergymen and women. It is the path upon which acolytes seeking to become priests, missionaries, confessors, etc.

  • The Flock
  • The flock are those that have cast aside their former lives and beliefs. They are the lambs, whom shall be fed from green pastures, and baptized in cool waters. They possess no 'great' duty unto the church, other than to be honest in their confessions, faithful unto the Shadow, and provide what aid they can unto those that would spread its glory on this mortal plane.

    How to Apply

    If you wish to join, Chapel of Night, then you will need to contact Vilewomb in-game; both In-Character and Out-of-Character. In regards to In-character contact, the sect has flyers and recruiters seeking willing laborers, potential converts, or current worshipers; that wish to be of service. Should your character have found a flyer or overheard the promoting of living in 'Reclaimed Andorhal', then they need to use either of those as the foundation of the letter, adding why they want the clergy to pay for their transport to the city and how they can aid the clergy in the reconstruction effort. All letters are sent to Sister Diedri Vilewomb, a confessor, whom works as a personal adjutant to the Bishop-Exarch.

    Normally, such a letter will run you two in-game mail letters, if time and effort is taken to do so. We consider this as a way to judge a player's interest in the guild and its concept. A poor letter won't exactly harm your possibility for acceptance into the guild, but it does play heavily in our perception of you.

    After your In-character letter is sent, you will need to send an Out-of-Character one, in which you sum up your player goals and what you'd like out of the guild. More than likely, you'll receive an In-character and Out-of-Character response within 1-3 days, after which there will be a short interview, where we confirm your interest and commitment to the guild and induct your character.

    All in all, its a letter, an interview, then causing assumed Argent loyalists to get hung in the streets for treason.

    No problem! I'll be on around evening this weekend due to work, so I'll see you around then and we can pick-up from where we left off.

    I hope we win Wintergrasp tonight, this really isn't the hood I wanted but the set does go together nicely, doesn't it?
