The Return of World PvP

Dear Blizzard,
In the past seven years of WoW I have seen a great decline in world PvP. I've always dabbled in both PvP and PvE. But I can say with great certainty that my greatest memories of WoW include mostly world PvP. I faintly recall you stating that this expansion will be an attempt to bring back that deep rooted hatred between The Alliance and The Horde. I really hope that this is true, or that I didn't just make that up in my head (lol if I did). There are many reasons World PvP has declined (mostly flying mounts/dungeon queues/battleground servers) , many of them irreversible. This doesn't mean you guys can't come up with some amazing ideas, or to even take some ideas from your past expansions and injecting them into MoP. I truly believe that you guys had it right on the money with Tol Barad. While many of us feel that the execution of Tol'Barad was a bit off, you still decided to try, thank you. Many players yern for a zone that is like the Isle of Quel'Danas. A place that combines the essence of both PvP/PvE, it must encourage both. There will always be those people that are sour about being killed/ganked when grinding those dailies, but that is not enough reason to abandon the idea of the Isle/Tol Barad. I implore you Blizzard to please create these savage war zones for us PvP servers. I want to be stabbed in the back by some alliance scum while questing. I want a reason to hate them again. Please create that zone that isn't dictated by flying mounts or teleporting. Create a zone that is more alive than any other zone. Southshore vs Tarren Mill, Stranglethorn Vale, Light Hope's Chapel, Blackrock Mountain, The Isle of Quel'Danas, World Bosses, and even Tol'Barad... all of these places had something special that brought servers together. It created a connection between The Horde and The Alliance. I won't even go into detail specifically why those places and events were special. Because I know you understand Blizzard. I know you do. At this point in time, I am under the impression that in order to garner any hope for World PvP, I must put myself at the mercy of the Alliance and attack them at their own home (Stormwind). Which I have done many times just to try and spur some battles. It feels very strained. But sometimes it's worth the trouble. The integrity of World PvP might be gone for now, but I do believe you guys have what it takes to bring it back. |

In Blizzard's attempts to make the game more accessible to people who don't consider themselves true "gamers" (through dungeon finder, instant teleportation via flying mounts, quicker hearthstones, etc) they have pretty much obliterated world PVP. What reason is there to leave Orgrimmar or Stormwind anymore? Absolutely none. They've streamlined the content in such a way that everyone simply stands in their major city waiting for a queue to pop. Also, outside of Tol Barad, Blizzard has given the Alliance and Horde very little means to clash with one another in Cataclysm.
MoP might have met some harsh criticism with its debut, but I'm hoping Blizzard hears the cries of its players that miss going out into the WORLD of Warcraft, not just standing in a city all day behind the safety of guards and other players. I hope they give us incentive in MoP to actually travel, and run into other players. And if they create another Wintergrasp/Tol Barad area, I sincerely hope they UPDATE and expand upon the loot received from dailies to keep it relevant as new patches come out. And the argument I hear often from people that some simply don't want PVP encounters has no validity. They make PVP servers for a reason. While I'm sure there are some out there that don't necessarily like getting ganked, it promotes a sense of UNITY amongst the friends you have made in the game when people come to your defense. Guildies will eventually be involved, and other players in the area, which leads to some good fun that is simply not possible the way this game is structured anymore. I hope my plea, as well as Rocky's, do not fall on deaf ears. Bring back the WORLD in World of Warcraft, and world PVP along with it. |

I think there should be something that appears on your screen that says "BATTLE OF SOUTHSHORE. WINNER RECIEVES X AMOUNT OF HP!" and then everyone will rush to Southshore and there will be a huge world pvp battle....Honestly, this would just be awesome imo.

Didja mean "XP" instead of "HP"?
That would be something to encourage some PvP leveling I suppose. All suggestions are welcome anyways. |

Maybe he meant honor points. Not entirely sure. But seriously, anything would help lol.

This is really interesting. In the seven years of my time with this game, world PvP has truly ended on my server - and on many others I play on. I miss IQD and the banking that happened as people farmed blood berries. Hopefully Blizz gets a clue with MoP :)

PLEASE BLIZZARD, BRING BACK WORLD PVP! Create important quest zones where you cannot fly or something of the sort. This would bring back that strong sense of the player having to fight for his xp in the world.

Well, actually...dishonorable kills, server instability, and the ability to level from 1-85 without leaving stormwind is what killed world grei..er..pvp.

Oh there is no doubt that there are many reasons beyond what I mentioned. What I am asking is that, Blizzard should explore new options to recreate intense world PvP. In fact, they don't really have to "explore new options," they already know how to create these environments, they've done it before. I disagree with the presumption that all forms of World PvP are grief'ing however. There are many ways to spur world PvP without it involving 85's ganking lower leveled players. |

Ganking is a minor, albeit amusing element to world PvP. But it shouldn't at all be an issue -- after all -- the person that is being ganked agreed to it the moment they decided to roll on a PvP server and then flag themselves.
And this, is the saddest reality of all, really. I feel their way to get people to shut up about the matter is to simply throw in a Tol'Barad-esque area each expansion. While these areas are great, my encounters with Alliance on my server shouldn't SOLELY be in that area. They need to readjust the world in such a way that PvP naturally occurs in a variety of areas. I hope they do explore some new options... but the fact of the matter here is they had it right before. Bring back what was loved, and add to it with fresh, new ideas. |

Yeah.. I agree man World PVP can really keep the game fresh even if they have to limit it to PVP servers..
I like that idea, but maybe instead of winner receives hp or xp, how about this for example... Every hour, one of about 8 random locations pop up on your screen.. example BRILL IS UNDER ATTACK... (right outside of UC) so a capture node pops up.. if Alliance holds the Node for a cumulative time of 10 minutes, Sylvanas (as well as other UC guards) takes a 25% health and attack power decrease.. if Horde holds Node for a cumulative time of 10 minutes, we get (idk) 150 conquest points from Sylvanas.. and vice versa for Goldshire to Varian Wrynn.. Alliance hold Goldshire node.. they get 150 conquest and if Horde takes it.. Varian Wrynn and SW guards take a 25% nerf.. Helps for raids on opposing cities and rewards those for caring to defend. Just an Idea :/ |

Make achievements and rewards when you do some world PvP
Like you earn an achievement for killing *X* amount of alliance/horde on your server. Like you get a special title/anything that makes you stand out. Gearing and T2 would still take arena and RBG, but adding World PVP mounts/title/gear only would be awsome. Taking out OP guards that 2 shot help a bunch. Really the only NPCS that should be around are the faction leaders professions, AH, bankers (there's more but you get my idea). In vanilla WPvP was the only option if you wanted high end titles/gear (at least its what I've seen on vids and heard). The key for World PvP is making people WANT to World PvP. |

What reason is there to leave Orgrimmar or Stormwind anymore? Questing, Fishing, Archaeology, Gathering, Farming, World Events, RPing, Dailies, Neutral Auction House. |
|
At the very beginning of cataclysm (on my server anyway) world PvP actually happened. Tol Barad peninsula was the sole provider of this.
A raid of horde players assaulting the alliance encampment. Sure there were NPC's that could decimate your ranks, and i dont blame blizzard for implementing them. Without them the alliance would have lost their encampent and would be instantly killed if they used the TB portal. But if you played smart you wouldnt aggro these NPC's. These fights would last an hour +, with everyone constantly rezzing and running back into the fray. But then even this small amount of pvp was killed, when everyone lost interest in the TB rep/token grind. Told Barad Peninsula and the battle for tol barad quickly became less about controlling it for the dailys, and more about just for the honor gained. imo they should have made TB a running battle, not a scheduled event. The pvp should never end |

Like I said in my original post. Some of the things that indirectly destroyed World PvP cannot be removed from the game. Flying mounts are one of these things. Zones where you cannot use flying mounts is a way to encourage some natural world pvp.
The reason flying mounts took part in destroying world pvp is that it added another dimension for players to run and hide. I don't think that flying mounts should be removed from the game. I think there needs to be some zones where flying is not an option however. It creates a much LARGER zone to be had, slower exploration/travel is not always a bad thing. What reason is there to leave Orgrimmar or Stormwind anymore? I'm sorry, you may want to cut that list in half, as half of them hold no ground. I don't mean to detract from my original post, but Archaeology serves little purpose with it only offering 359 BoAs. Gathering, fishing, and farming are one in themselves. Questing and dailies are the same thing (although the dailies being offered are all old and outdated). The neutral auction house is somewhat of a joke, and not exactly useful to certain servers. And world events? Please, enlighten me. If you're speaking of the holiday events, there are a few holiday events that encourage World PvP. But for the most part it has been diminished by flying mounts. There is an ease of access, swooping in, grabbing your elder quest, and leaving. And besides all this. I think the point was, that the main facets of the game have now become such a convenience to pursue, that one could truly live their character's life in Orgrimmar/Stormwind. |

I'd love to see them get the boot, atleast on the Pandaren continent. I haven't heard much (or maybe I've missed out on some news) as to whether or not we'll be spending a majority of our time out on another continent. But I'd certainly love to see some ground-mount only zones. Like a dense forest or something where flying is simply impossible or something like that... I dunno. =/ |
|
First and most important thing that seems to be forgotten in these posts: for world PvP to work out, faction balance needs to be restored in some way. Otherwise, if World PvP ever start constantly happening again, chances are good players on the weaker faction will just change realms or factions, killing off World PvP for good.
