Hallinton ((OOC))

I'm pretty new to the forums, so I don't really know exactly how bad the guy is, but I've seen his post in the eredar thread somehwere around the page, and it was pretty shocking. I myself belive in killing bad ideas, but I don't go around telling people to mutilate themselves to remind of their boundless stupidity.
Now, I know all you oldtime RP'ers have wondered at one point or another: The guy goes around flaming other ppl's threads, never once saying he actually likes any part of 'em, just pointing out the bad parts in excruciating detail, when he never, ever, EVER RPs himself. I really think he should look at his own skills, however good they may be, and let us look at them too, before shattering other ppl's RP ideas. Lets see just how good the forum's resident crotchety old man is at RP himself. Thoughts? |

He has made a reputation...but it is in very poor taste to deliberately name someone in the forums in order to flame them...
In ancient courts there were groups of people called 'naysayers'. And as the term is well known, their job was to ALWAYS tell the king, emperor, monarch 'No'. The point of this was to make sure this ruler never got ahead of themselves, that they always stayed grounded in the immediate and thought their actions through.
He takes such an approach by bludgeoning the person with a no. It's effective, undoubtedly. |
I will admit that his ways are...unorthodox, but it works much like a doctor doing something that would be considered 'malpractice'...
Is it dangerous? Yes...Is it bad in other's eyes? Yes...Is it way out of the way of other people's preference? Of course... Is it effective? MOST CERTAINLY! But still, I think someone has got to do it, everybody else would either try to sugar coat a denial of a bad idea, or try to find a compromise, but, no...someone has to take the responsibility and initiative to go right up into a person's face and start telling them all the wrong things about an idea...normally I would try to do it, but someone usually beats me to the punch with it and there is only... *puts on sunglasses and a cowboy hat* Room for one bad boy in town... *takes off sunglasses and a cowboy hat* So, yeah, I usually end up as the compromiser because of that. And, as Iralius said...it use to be a big job that is laced with danger...and Hallinton probably doesn't RP cuz his 'naysaying' duties probably put enough of a bad reputation that nobody on the forums wants to RP with him :P, but does he care? Probably not...Should he care? Definitely no, after all, as I said... Someone has to do it. |
Never said his advice wasn't good or anything, it definitely is, it's just he always goes around shattering ppl's ideas, but he never expresses any himself. I realize someone has to do it, but still...
He shatters them because there are others there to put the pieces together and help. Basically, he's Batman and those who come in after him are Harvey Dent before he went psycho. He does the dirty work and shows them the negative responses. Everyone else comes in and then points the person in alternate directions. |
What Iralius said...
People love voicing their opinions, it's in our nature, and to help with creative ideas is also a thing to expect in these forums. Many, upon many of people will be trying to help the person fix/change/build up something, meanwhile we need people (i.e. Hallinton) to 'swoop in' and make some 'POW!' actions to punch away the bad ideas |
If someone didn't deconstruct the idea... it would be left for multiple people to make the same point.. and it would be disjointed and confusing. Whilst I personally don't like Hallinton's style... he does have an effective way of breaking down character ideas so then the new RPer doesn't get laughed out of server side or even forum rp.
I'm one of the nice ones... but even still I sometimes have my break points when it comes to someone trying to overturn years of lore for their own character to make them special. |

Ima make a char on MG and find u. I wanna see your skillz
Pfft, it isn't you that drives me from the boards. It's my own waxing and waning of interest. And only one of my concepts can be claimed as overpowered, and he never took part in any roleplays except one. |
I realize that but I still wanna try. How do you wanna do this?

Pfft, it isn't you that drives me from the boards. It's my own waxing and waning of interest. That's him! Or would it be the Scourge created vampire who murdered an entire town in a crazed and confused rage upon escaping from the Scourge labs, was essentially impervious to conventional swords-and-boards but was only vulnerable to holy symbols and light magine? Wasn't a town, was a camp. And he was vulnerable to... a lot of stuff. Silver, holy symbols, light and fire magic, enchanted weapons of any sort... all rather common things in WoW. Perhaps you're refering to the Half-Dragon-Half-High-Elf priest whos concept I can't remember that well? You mean the half-dragon half-human who was a failed experiment and completely weak except for being able to heal? And, lest we forget, your single forray into demon Hunters. : | Wait what when? |
I'll agree with that... though I could still imagine them being common amongst members of the cult of the Holy Light.
Pretty, terribly awesome! No, I agree, the only way I can ever even begin to imagine it working is if a dragon was changing themselves from mortal to dragon form, and the spell went haywire.
Oh that thing... yes and no. Human Demon Hunter who was chasing after an insane blood elf warlock. Was being hunted by the Alliance, Horde and his own brother because of the pariah-effect Demon Hunters tend to garner. |
