This discussion deserves its own thread.

It's time to talk guild merger, kids.

The "heritage and history" argument against it is nice but if we don't get proactive the good old guilds are gonna disappear anyway.

AT left the server this past weekend. Ain't the first and won't be the last.

Merger is the best option I've heard so far. If you have a better one feel free to share it here. If all you have to say is "it won't work," you're not helping.

Chat it up!

Could you please share your thoughts on the benefits of having guilds merge? I'm feeling neutral about it right now and if I don't see anything I can agree or disagree with, I can only stay silent right now.

Off the top of my head...

Better communication, more incentives to work together... plus, if your guild never has more than 2 other members on during prime time you are probably going to get bored and leave (for another guild/game/server) if you are an active player interested in "progression" or anything remotely resembling in-guild social interaction.

Don't get me wrong, I love the old guard, but the old guard no longer has the manpower to justify it.

TL;DR: More people > no people. We are losing a lot of good folks right now who would prefer to remain on VeCo but have no incentive to do so, because their guild never has enough people to do ... well, anything.

We've tried organizing mergers in the past. For Example:

Guild A has leadership their way.

Guild B has leadership their way.

Both guilds enjoy leadership styles they created. Who's in charge and why? Even if you're all "equals" does one person still feel that they are actually in charge? Who's guild do you join? Do you relevel? Do you join another?

Do people feel like you're in THEIR guild? Or vice versa?

What are the benefits of having several hundred people in one massive zerg guild? How do you build the community? And offer differing events? How do you keep track of all the story arcs?

I'm not trying to be negative...I'm just pointing out the flaws of having a guild with say 100s (LOL there won't be on VeCo) of active players.

Realistically I imagine we wouldn't get more than 10-20 on at any given time, but it's a start and it's better than what we have now.

Ideally (if people actually take this seriously) I would recommend the Dreadhorde bosses get together and hammer out exactly how they want to make this work. Things I might suggest:

1. Start a brand-new level 1 guild for this thing. That way everybody has equal ownership and everybody also has a fallback if the experiment fails miserably.

2. Establish a leadership structure somewhat similar to the U.N. Security Council. Everybody's equal. Everybody gets a vote. Everybody can veto. Vetoes can be overcome by 2/3 of the rest of the council.

3. Head of the council (rotating GM -- changes monthly) decides in the event of a tie.

4. Any new "seat" on the council (or removal of a seat) requires unanimous approval.

5. Members of the council police their own individual "clans," and have full authority regarding how they want to run things for their group. They can maintain the same guild site identity they always have had, create private channels for "clan-only" chat, etc. Hopefully the blended community will create more incentive for crossover; at the very least, the people determined to stay on the server can get to know each other better than they do now.

I think I covered the major benefits in my post above. To paraphrase Ben Franklin, join or suffer further server attrition!

I can think of two guilds that won't like rotating GM, since that is how we do things. And, it was the only thing that prevented a merge.

Maybe things are different now. I think it's at least worth a conversation, especially before DMV packs its bags and goes... whereveryouguysaregoing.

Orson, like I noted in the other thread... props to you for trying to stand up and fix something on this server. As Rett noted, many guilds in DHD have discussed mergers at one point or another. I suppose it made sense, since we are all RP/PvP guilds with similar goals.

Despite goals being similar, each guild really does have its own identity. It isn't really just a matter of rotating GM or whatever else. Dreadhorde was never built to create some super guild that could field a force in WPvP. It was built as a group of RP/PvP guilds who would work together to foster a positive RP/PvP gaming environment on VeCo. We always fought with honor and respect, and took pride in that.

To call on these guilds to drop their long histories, and merge in order to provide the server with 'possibly' more WPvP, is not a realistic solution.

TBH, Orson... It is common knowledge that DHD has its own chat in-game. Every guild member (and many others outside of DHD) have access to it. So a shared guild chat wouldn't change anything. The only advantage would be to avoid conflicts on our individual guild calendars... however, DHD has made it a habit of coordinating WPvP nights with each other to get around this issue. So even this 'Dreadhorde guild', would not change anything.

So again, I'm sorry you think I'm throwing some 'pity party', but I was aggravated that people were lecturing us (DHD) about what would be best for us, when they really don't understand the situation. I was merely trying to point out the truth behind the matter.

Props to you for trying to do something for VeCo. Best of luck.

I think having a DHD in some capacity is better than not having a DHD at all... which is where we seem to be headed with all these server transfers.

I can tell you first-hand that AT transferred due to a lack of personnel, and you're not exactly discounting the DMV transfer rumors in any of your posts.

Again, I understand and appreciate the long history of these guilds, but what good is history when the guilds themselves don't even exist here anymore?

There's still hope for VeCo, but you gotta believe in it and you gotta believe in each other.

We haven't discounted anything. We've already told plenty of people about what is going on.

I do agree with you Orson... that if things don't change, many of those guilds will be lost. And your positive attitude lends hope that maybe things can turnaround here on VeCo. Maybe MoP will bring back people as well. I truly hope so. This server was the best of the best.

We've already made our decision, as many people know. Maybe that makes all of my posts come off as negative or whatever else... But we did what was best for our guild. And you won't find any of us coming back here to trash VeCo. This server will always be an amazing memory.

Stay positive, and again, good luck.

Just make a new guild called "The Anti-Enclave". Or find a level 25 guild and rename it.

Let Rett be the leader.

DONE.

[edit] You'll lose a few people who are whiners but overall retain 90% of your people... and have a powerful force to unite the horde in peace and love or whatever.

We were going to try, until I talked to some Horde and discovered that the Enclave has barely done anything since they killed Garrosh.

Not that we'd have much of a chance, but it'd be something to do.

My earlier post on Pad was against the idea of an official Dreadhorde merger, but I do agree that Hordeside could use a larger pvp focused guild. I just don't think merging old DHD guilds was the way to do it.

But if you make a guild like this, Orson, I'd join and drag my wife along too. That or take an existing pvp guild like Haze or HK Mafia and help pump as many people in there as possible...I dunno. Even if the guild starts off small, that's cool, smaller skirmishes are most fun to me anyway. Here's a nice fite where we killed Charax a few times in 4.2 : )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-8ws3PiKP0

I haven't played much the last two months and I'll probably unsub when GW2 comes out, but I think I have one more round of fite in me before I'm done-done. I'll probably be online some this weekend so chat me up if you wanna^^

EDIT: If a guild like this does get rolling; Zihela should go horde and join it. Your own faction hates you, dude! Join the Horde imo : P

Wow, big surprise AT left. I coulda sworn they'd never go anywhere else. I started off in that guild once I got to this server.
How the server is a'changin'.
This may not sound like much, and perhaps it isn't, but I still like this server. It's got personality.
I'd happily join any new amalgamation of PVPers for WPVP on my mage (who's been leveled exclusively through BGs), finish leveling him and gear him for PVP to support such an effort.
I don't play WoW anymore except for PVP (I play TOR otherwise), but I'd like to help.
I guess that depends on really wanting the server and it's WPVP to thrive again, or simply leaving for greener pastures (nothing against that, I've done it twice - from KT to Dentarg to here). Either way I'm not spending any more money on transfers - VeCo is where I'm staying.

I really think that people over on ED don't really have a say in veco politics anymore.
