What was your "aha!" moment when you said to yourself, "this is what I want to do"? Was it a "I can't believe we lived" story? Was it a lack of healers in your guild, and you fell in love with it along the way? What makes you queue as a "healbot," and what keeps you coming back?

I'm a control freak and healing lets me control my group. Well, not like order them around, I mean being able to influence their life/death/etc.

To be honest, I'm not "in love" with healing. It's just more interesting for progression raiding and better suits my personal skillset. I prefer DPS and tanking for easier content.

I was getting frustrated with playing my rogue. Don't get me wrong, I adore my rogue now, but at the time I had no idea as to proper gearing or rotation and was being continually bashed for my very poor dps numbers.
So I decided to try another role. The idea of tanking seemed too much for me to tackle, so I choose to heal. I took awhile picking between the classes and races. Finally I decided upon a human priest (not this toon; Abeille is the third reincarnation of that first toon).

After running my first few low level dungeons with her I was hooked. Unlike with dps, there was no one else for me to be compared to and I was even complimented after getting the group through a bad spot.

It may be egotistical of me, but the reason I continue to heal is to hear those words of praise. It makes all the other stuff we as healers have to put with so worth it.

I think it's when I realized how binary DPS is. For me, healing has so many variables that you have to react to - that's fun to me.

I also have extreme trust issues with anyone else doing their job.

Something about healing as a shaman it's just so boss,
can never really get myself to enjoy healing as other classes.

Exactly the same for me. I would (maybe) rather tank or dps, but I don't really feel comfortable with other healers, no matter how good they are. ^_^

sometime in early- BC when some guildies were like, "come heal this pally" and I did. Luckily I had a fewe good guildies who ran me through everything under the sun so I could get the hang of it. Then one day it clicked and that's what I have done since.

this!!! With dps and tanking the fights are a dance...with healing you have to watch for the ones with two left feet stumbling and fix them up.

I stick to pvp now and healing pvp is always insane. You get zerged but you keep as many up as possible to hold the node, cap the flag or whatever. It's a much bigger rush than wailing mindlessly on stuff. When in chat someone goes, "wow great heals,".

Not really sure. I wanted to try something besides deeps and got tired of tanking. Even with the threat increase, people still figure out ways to pull aggro. So I decided to try a druid, I made one a while back thinking I'd go feral, but just got ballsy one day and decided to try healing. There isn't one 'aha moment' that sticks out, I just noticed I started getting anxious to get off of work and hop on the druid and heal. I kept thinking it would get old, but the more I do it the more fun it gets. I'm not even 85 yet, but I'm better at healing than I am with deeps and I'm constantly discovering new tricks to heal better. I think faster with my healer too. Maybe all the time spent being regarded as a huntard got me into a huntard mentality, but healing just seems more intuitive to me.

And I spend way too much time on healing forums. The crowd seems to be a lot nicer and a lot less arrogant than over on the dps or tanking forums. I like being part of a fun and friendly community and it just seems like healers get more love (though they get blamed a lot more for bad situations) than dps or tanks.

Same here. I'll even heal in single player games if given the choice. I can't remember "falling" in love with healing, because I started WoW already in love with it. Although my love is affirmed every time I'm able to save a near wipe. Nothing more fun than that.

Playing "how low can you go" with peoples healthbars.

It's a fun game. It works exactly as the name suggests.

Early BC I was maining a spriest, and leveling this one as enhancement. As soon as I hit 70 we lost a healer, so with much debate I decided to switch to resto and try to fill the gap. First raid was nerve racking, but far more enjoyable than my priest was! That raid I fell in love with chain heals and never looked back. I've also leveled a resto druid to see the HoTer side of lifesaving, but shaman will always be my favorite class. Playing whack a mole with heal bars is so much fun!

i never healed a day in my gaming career till this xpac and had lvled this toon as resto to try it out. i never really planned to raid as resto but one day back in the start of cata still my guild was running bwd and i was late ( usually MT on my warrior) they were stuck on halfus from lack of 3 heals (this was when we still had half blues on) and they asked me to come in i was freaked i never healed a raid in my life and i was 337 or so equipped. i then topped the healing meters(yay for 10 man druids) i was told at that point i would only be allowed to heal as i had a good nack for it. i now raid heriocs on my disc priest and working on a holy pally as well.
like others have said i trust myself more than anyone else to keep a raid alive and its really the only thing that keeps me entertained while progressing. dps and tanking have become so mind numbingly boring to me.

When i realised it was a lot less work, and that i could read a book when i have a decent tank, as compared to forever going through rotations as dps.

Like Hooves, I have control issues. The day I realized that healing was the role with the control, I decided to heal.

I'll still DPS if the healing is handled and it's DPS that needs to be done right. LFR, for instance.

For me it was during Wrath. As soon as we got duel specs, I picked holy as my second. Never did anything with it until I hit 80. I got together a holy set and would heal ICC raids. I was notorious for standing in the fire. It took a while to learn to focus not only on my grid, but what was going on in the game. If there was a crystalizing moment for me, it was a 10 man run in ICC against Lord Marrowgar. The second healer died on a bone spike almost immediately. I solo healed the rest of the fight and enjoyed the resulting accolades from the rest of the team. That's when I knew I could be really good at healing.
