Have to say: It's been really nice that the API hasn't changed in ages for the following reasons: 1) Less work on that means more work on other areas of the game. 2) Addons no longer frequently break due to game patches. 3) Less fix-what-the-patch-broke work for our beloved addon developers makes it easier for them to create and maintain better addons. 4) Macros rarely break these days. 5) *does roguely-things*

Cryptarius: The in-game API has nothing to do with the Community Platform API.
Straton: You probably don't decide where to put resources. It's unfortunate though that we are left with a great but slightly bugged API. |

Agreed. I think the concept of this API is awesome, and what Straton and his unnamed but equally cool helpers have put out so far is also awesome. But the lack of drive for this project leaves it lacking the Blizzard "Wow!" that they are known for putting into the games themselves. That's what's missing with the API, and as a result, there are so many opportunities being left on the table here.
What hurts even more is that there had existed functionality in the past that doesn't exist today. Character feeds, calendar access, guild bank logs... all of this has been lost. I had plans to use all of that information for my guild. It just seems to me like there was a lot of thunder behind this project when it began, but the storm has since passed, leaving us with what Straton and company was in the middle of before they got redirected to Diablo III. I still have to say that some of the new stuff that didn't exist in the Armory... especially the auction data... phenomenal stuff. Working with the API for LibWowAPI and CheevosFTW.com was fun. I know you guys are hammering away on the Diablo III stuff, especially with the latest patch. I just hope there is more time being made for WoW in the near future to put the Blizzard polish on it. :) |

Whelp, I believe it's almost official. The APi has come close to its end. Or at least the beginning of its end.
It was great work on part of the Dev. team. You did an awesome job! But more so, it was great work on part of the community which brought forth some really cool projects! Well done by all... :) R |

Just to be clear - the API isn't going anywhere - Straton et al are working on other projects at the moment, but that doesn't preclude us adding features to this in the future. We are still committed to the upkeep of this project. We are working on getting through the backlog of API requests in the mailbox at the moment, and hopefully should be able to get a little more blue presence back to this forum Soon!
Please - continue to be patient. |

I expect this probably has something to do with Battle.net features like the RMAH. Maybe after Diablo 3 gets released we'll see some improvements. The API is a really great idea, but one that hasn't been used as much as I would personally like (TheUndermineJournal.com comes to mind as a good example of someone putting it to work). I think a lot of that ties into its current limitations and I personally think that with a bit more lovin' we could see it really bloom.
