RP Realm Policy Has Changed!

http://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/role-play-realm-policy February 2012 http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/roleplaying-policy Note that the following segment has been REMOVED from the US RP Realm Policy... Out of Character (OOC) Discussion and Use of General Chat I would like to get a response from Blizzard as to why this key section of the Policy has been omitted from the updated Policy. Failure to enforce the existing RP Realm Policy has lead to the downfall of most of the RP Realms that once existed in WoW. This change will only hasten the demise of the few remaining safe havens for RP left in the World of Warcraft. I think that if youre a roleplayer in the World of Warcraft, you should be very concerned about this change. What do YOU think? - Forbs "For Gnomeregan!" |

They never enforced it anyway no one will notice!

As a Roleplayer, I am used to being treated like a second class subscriber by the Blizzard support team. Their lack of enforcement of the few rules that separate RP Realms from the Normal realms and dismissive attitude when responding to Tickets citing violations of the Policy bring this point home again and again.
But in a time when the subscriber base is beginning to feel the pressure of competition in the marketplace, one would think Blizzard would take steps to help keep their Roleplaying community happy. Instead they are slowly phasing RP Realms out of existence through official systemic neglect and slipshod enforcment. Roleplayers are among the most active and loyal subscribers of all. We resub for years and years, never /ragequitting over PvP "balance" or class changes. But we are now an endangered segment of the subscriber base. Our realms are besieged by trolls and griefers who dont obey the existing rules, and what is Blizzard's response? Reduce their GM overhead by reducing the number of rules in place on RP Realms! If you are an active Roleplayer in the World of Warcraft I urge you to let Blizzard know in no uncertain terms what you think of this change! Because when your RP Realm dies, youre going to miss it when its gone. - Forbs "For Gnomeregan!" |

The problem is if they enforce anything, they lose people, if they do not enforce they lose people....no matter what they do they cannot please everyone!

True. Let's face it, Blizzard GMs sit at their desk, and whenever a ticket concerning a violation of the RP Policy comes up, they blow it off thinking "lol rpers." This change is far too convenient during a time when Blizzard is endorsing toons to roll toons such as "Ironmaiden" and "Ironpally" on designated RP realms and doesn't do anything about the CLEAR naming violations. It's pathetic. It shows exactly how much they really don't care about us. Sad thing is I doubt Blizzard will even respond to this. |
|
Wow... God damn it, Blizz! First you mangle the talent trees, now you try to wipe out the RP realms! WTF?
|
|
|
Of course not. What would they say? What could they say? *Supr srs voice* "Harrumph...We here at Blizzard Entertainment are deeply committed to a deeply immersive Roleplay experience on our designated RP Realms, and believe the removal of all IC Chat Channels was an absolutely necessary step to accomplish this...deeply." /epiceyeroll - Forbs "For Gnomeregan!" |

You are blowing this way out of proportion. They are not getting rid of IC channels, they are not enforcing any of these rules because they CANNOT! It's player based and player run channels that are easily created to facilitate rp.
I have actually seen some tremendous improvements on locations and ease of access to making and creating rp clothing and other interesting drops that can be used for rp. Stop whining and play the game. If you want rp then rp, no one is going to listen if you whine and create a stir. It is rpers who will make their stories and do the immersion. Blizzard cannot make you do it nor can they stop you. Dont like someone's name? Report it...Don't like their attitude? Ignore them. |

The OOC yell change makes me mad personally.
But honestly? If you want to a thread to get a lot of attention and a ton of likes so it's popular enough to see... you guys need to make threads on the general forums that don't look like Debby Downer wrote it. I know you're angry. I'm a RPer, too. I report names all the time. I've been RPing since I joined this game -- hell, I only still play because of RP. But no one is going to read through a giant baaaaw post that isn't even mildly entertaining, or doesn't present a solid argument. And being passive aggressive (lookin' at you gen forums) does little. Be aggressive for the change you want but be entertaining as well. The constant "blizz doesn't even care..." posts are so overdone and b o r i n g that everyone is going to skip right over it and move onto the next thread. |

Youre missing the point. Up till now /Say and /Yell were IC channels. Now they are not. Random street/pub/walkup RP relies upon /Say being an IC channel. How will such RP easily happen when /Say is full of OOC chatter about last nights basketball game, raid progression, and less savory things? And sure...you can create player run channels and just let the "cool" people in. But what happens to RP in that situation? It becomes insular and cliquish. The community fragments. The RP stagnates, and eventually you have another Normal Realm which is RP in name only. - Forbs "For Gnomeregan!" |

Well I'll let you handle the entertainment. Right now I am in Rabid Chihuahua Mode. =) - Forbs "For Gnomeregan!" |

I honestly still don't see measurable difference between RP and "Normal" realms. The ongoing relegation of RP realms to the round file makes a lot of sense. I've begun responding by taking some of my RP to "Normal" realms.
Creating a good atmoshpere for RP really does depend much more on the roleplayers involved in it than on what Blizzard can do with the toolkit they have. This transition might be just as well - making Rp something like a "game within a game" in WoW. It already is. |
|
|
But the point is this, even now there is no enforcement of these rules on an rp realm. So I see no difference whatsoever.

Would I be upset if they had ever done anything to make a RP realm better? Yes, this would be something that would fill me with annoyance and rage and etc.
But the fact that our server is still host to a troll who has been reported numerous times, who spends almost all his time in game using the Piccolo of the Flaming Fire or whatever it's called to move into the middle of RP and interrupt it by playing the thing, or summon a mammoth and sit on people, or etc... Yeah, I have no hope for Blizzard ever looking at RP realms and doing something serious about them. I'd rather them just come forward and say it plainly 'We're not going to be enforcing the rules on RP servers anymore, the community should police itself'. I prefer honesty over honeyed lies. |

You're missing the point. Up till now /Say and /Yell were IC channels. Now they are not. As pretty much every other RPer here has said, we would care more about this if Blizz actually put for the effort to even give the vague impression that they give a red rat's rump about the RP playerbase. As it stands, they're just making the policy reflect the actually order of things. Do I like it? No, but them's the breaks.
I don't think we're going to see any massive upsurge in /s, /y noise than what we already get. The thing about pub-crawling RP is that in just about any place you find that, you also find the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is Tradechat. Why bother with OOC content in /s and /y when you have it already flowing freely in /trade? Even if we do get an upswing in /s and /y noise, the thing about RPers, and I'm sure everyone here will attest to this, is that when we want RP, we're going to get it. So what if there are Trolls (and not the good kind like me) spamming /s and /y? We made /ignore our wanton lady of the night a long time ago. We know where she is and we take it to her readily and willingly.
Having been on multiple RP servers, I think it's safe to say that this happens anyway. A change in policy isn't going to effect that one way or the other. |
