Look at frost at the bottom of the pile again

It would be ok if you buffed deep freeze so we could raid as frost for one patch since Blackwing Lair. Really, it would. |

step 1.) spec fire
step 2.) ??????? step 3.) PROFIT!!! |

I think the problem is that you can't just really buff Deep Freeze because it would make it way too good in scenarios where you have to burst something down quickly, and there's not a lot of other mechanics that wouldn't directly affect PvP. In other words, making intelligent design decisions to help Frost in PvE is way too hard for the people that do that sort of thing, which we already know from other specs that have suffered similarly.

someone is always going to be last. and given frost has a very powerful and well performing roll in pvp, and mages have 2 other specs that are doing very well in pve, this is a super not priority.

What they need to do is nerf the hell out of frost's mastery and/or shatter so they can be slightly buffed against non-frozen targets.

Deep freezes damage has been increased by x% and deals its damage to enemies permanently immune to stuns over 30 seconds, instead of instantly. Since cold snap won't refresh deep freeze anymore in MoP overlap wouldnt be a problem. |

MoP will fix it!
What? It could happen. |

Frost mages in PvE is honestly the most fun I've had playing a DPS spec ever. Reliable, powerful feeling procs, fast-paced decision-making, a plethora of minor cooldowns to keep track of. If I could change one thing about the game, it would be to make frost actually deal good damage.
Please make it good in MoP! :D:D:D:D:D:D |

Guess I'll be quoting that again...
I'll quote one of my posts + a little extra from another thread in the mage forums on the very same topic.Flat out buffing Deep Freeze wouldn't be too appropriate. The Devs nerfed it for a particular reason that I... somewhat agree with. Frost relied too much on it for it's damage and thus was putting weak DPS in situations when DF would not deal damage, so they transferred that damage to other sources. |

You're all right, I guess it is better that there's no point for frost to exist for the vast majority of people that play mages (i.e. that don't pvp), and it is a good thing that frost hasn't been good in raiding since bosses were immune to fire.
They could also just give frost mages an aura in raids that increased their damage, but I guess that would be too confusing for players. |

No, that's just dumb and inelegant. Any game designer avoids those sorts of solutions if possible. Brute force fixes just make everyone feel bad. |

Frost was good from 4.0 to 4.2. It needed tweaks that wouldn't put it in the current situation. The main culprit for this tier is itemization, not poor performance.

Aww poor mages, one of your 3 specs isn't in the top 10 dps like your other two is, hell one is in the top 3, suck it up, you have two insanely good dps specs for pve, and frost is overpowered as hell in pvp, I think you can deal.
|
Sorry you get owned by FOTM reroll frost mages in pug bgs, that's no reason to troll frost pve threads. And for the record mages don't have two specs in the top 10. http://raidbots.com/dpsbot/Spec_Score/25H/all/14/60/default/ Blizz needs to buff DF already. It's the only logical way to buff frost without affecting pvp. |
