Repercussions to Sap

Sap. The only fault this ability has, in my opinion, is that it requires little to no thought to use. As I understand it, this is a blow to the head, using a melee weapon that stuns the victim; however, it should only have a use when correctly timed, and with some thought and at a proper cost. I do not speak of the energy cost; I mean cost of misuse and range. Sap, should require melee range, just from a pure logic standpoint or at least a reasonable melee range.
In addition, spells for instance, like Thorns, Entangling Roots, Lightning Shield, Molten Armor, or any other similar type should trigger its use and damage or affect the Rogue because those abilities are meant to trigger on contact. This form of CC should require thought, and properly penalize when misused. |

Someone is forgetting about the talent that increased sap range. Yes, it was mandatory. But pretty much every PvP rogue took it anyways.

I just think it sucks having to wait for full sap DR before you can even begin fighting the little jerks (should they have the huevos to stick around and actually fight).
Travel across midfield to help return flag... Sap Sap Sap AoE trying to find him, no luck, mount up and continue... Sap Sap Sap "Felheart what are you screwing around in mid for? Alliance are so fail!" Sap Sap Sap Oh good, here comes a teammate maybe they can end this BS. *Teammate runs around AoEing, gets bored, mounts up and leaves* Mount up to follow... Sap Wait come back! Sap Sap Damnit -_- |

I just think it sucks having to wait for full sap DR before you can even begin fighting the little jerks (should they have the huevos to stick around and actually fight). Where's the part where they open up on you, do unhealable damage, and then emote after they kill you? Back on topic: it probably does need a nerf, given that it's way too good in arena (too easy to use reliably). |

Rogues nowadays prefer the psychological torment that comes with the constant sapping. They want to leave you there, incapacitated, knowing that at anytime your life could end just like that, and there is nothing you can do to stop it... |

But it's so fun opening on someone you have sapped, have their friend run in to help them, shadowdance sap their help before they enter combat, then kill them while their friend stands there sapped.

When tab and macro-targetting reliably targets a stealthed rogue that's spotted, sure. As it is you see them, start clicking to get a target, get sapped, and they fade out again. And that's on a good day. |

most rogues are not that classy or smart. |

I was leveling an alliance rogue alt for kicks a few weeks ago and that was seriously the best thing ever.
See, despite being a PVP server, Mal'Ganis's entire alliance population could probably fit in a small classroom on a weekday night, so it's a rare sight to actually spot one in the wild, like a white rhino or a yeti. So if you wanted to spook someone, all you had to do was just cruise on by and sap him while you went about your business. People would FREAK OUT and try to AoE out of paranoia for minutes at a time afterward while I was already off in the distance, doing my own thing. My favorite instance of this was in Tol Barad when I saw someone grinding, so I sapped him immediately after he looted his mob, skinned it in front of him, /bowed and went back into stealth. Then I sapped another guy as I left. When I was leaving after having picked a few flowers, both of them were back-to-back and still waiting for a sneak attack that never came. |

why does everything have to be realistic? its a freaking game...

I will forever picture 30 yard long arms stretching out to sap me now. |

Considering the buffs stealth has gotten in Cataclysm:
Certain abilities like piercing howl not breaking stealth, as well as a movement speed increase while stealthed, going back to a 5 yard radius would be a no brainer. At the very least its radius should not be larger than a hunter's flare |
Frustrating your opponent in order to make them blow cooldowns and play poorly is a very viable strategy. Sap as an overall ability is fine, even if you don't like it. Sap capping feels broken to me though. If a rogue reading this doesn't know what that is, I'd rather not tell them. As much as it could educate alliance rogues, it could also educate horde rogues, and I'd rather not educate the enemy. |

I could deal with Sap having 10 yard range when speced for it back in BC when you could spam down-ranked AoEs indefinitely (in my holy PvP set back then I could regen mana via the 5SR tick I got while keeping a R1 Consecration down constantly). However, casters haven't been able to afford to spam AoE like that since LK came out and removed down-ranking, which was actually a major boost to the power of stealth in BGs that was never really discussed. Add in the removal of just about all enhanced stealth detection in Cata, and rogues do not need a 10 yard Sap. 5-8 yards is plenty.
