We want rogue PvE damage to remain top-tier.

Have the Mage complaints stopped yet?
Is it safe to come out? |

Should I be surprised that a Hunter is making this type of thread?
|
Sure? Hunters are in a good spot right now, I might even say great, dps wise. Just kind of funny to see Blizzard openly state they want a class to be "top-tier." Where does everyone else fall? |

so rogues can be 'top tier' but ret paladins were doing 'to much dps' wat. i thought this hybrid vs pure thing was supposed to stop. |
Funnily enough, I was thinking exactly about the Gurthalak Ret nerf when I posted that haha. |
|
|
Fair enough. |
I thought the exact same thing and I don't even have a Paladin. It was a big contradiction there and shows that there is some sort of varying hybrid tax between hybrids and/or class bias in the balancing department. |
Top tier could be an inelegant way of saying competitive. Look at the rest of the quote its basically referring to balancing survivability, mobility and damage in a pvp environment while keeping rogue damage competitive in pve. In that context the statement doesn't make a ton of sense as "we want rogues to be one of the best pve dps classes." |
But...then why didn't they just say competitive? I hold nothing against rogues so don't take me the wrong way, but top-tier seems a far away off of competitive. |
I don't know why they didn't use the term competitive, perhaps it was shorthand for "competitive at the top tier" but I don't know. However you don't either, both of us are trying to parse out one sentence with very little to go on. |

What's wrong with this? :) Rogues have always been the purest of the pure physical DPS classes, crème de la crème so to speak. Just as Mages are the highest tier magical DPS. It's only natural that these two classes dominate endgame PvE dps, as they have mostly done since vanilla.

I do think that's what Blizzard does, anyhow. Although the official stance is that hybrid tax is no more, tier after tier Rogues and Mages - and other second class pures such as Hunters/Locks, to an extent - have been the ones at the top, albeit by very small margins.
I think it's a good balance, the difference is small enough that the average person isn't likely to complain about it, but still matters to cutting edge raiders and maintains the pures as a discrete tier above the rabble for the discerning DPSer. It wouldn't do to have a Druid or a Paladin or a Warrior at the top, that would be a travesty! |
|
And why do Hunters/Warlocks qualify for "second class"?
|
Because the person posting about why mages are top tier is a mage and their illogical bias is showing. |
|
|
combat is far easier to play than a ret paladin.

I for one welcome our permanent Rogue and Mage over lords.
