Heroic Vagaries VS. RF Maw
|
So, I raid in a 10-man guild which has awful luck with maw of the dragonlord. I recently got a heroic vagaries of time, and can't make up my mind if I want the 500 spell power bonus from it, or the proc from my raid finder maw. Anyone have some input?

*Entirely opinion here*
I personally believe lfr maw trumps anything heroic can give, minus the normal/heroic versions of the maw. Maybe on Hagara and or Warmaster it would be worth switching out to a different weapon, but in most cases the maw is simply amazing. Can't say I'd ever part with it. |

You can always switch the weapons during the fight.Generally in our HM's there are stack and spread situations, so I started switching when we stack and switching back to Vagaries when we are not (eating balls on Zonz w/ melee I have maw equipped, as soon as I spread to heal I switch to Vagaries).
Now whether or not the spell power and int loss from using LFR maw as opposed to Vagaries, Reta could probably weigh on that more. For myself I would not give up the int/spell power and just healz more. xD |

I've thought about swapping mid-fight, but I'm not sure how swapping affects the ICD? So if I swap from Vagaries to Maw, can it proc immediately, or will it be 15 seconds, or something else?

The only fight I wouldn't use Maw on would be 10 man Hagara, anddd idk since I raid 25s and the proc is ALWAYS useful, but HHag is such a joke that even if the proc weren't exceptional I don't see how useful min-maxing with a secondary stat weapon would be.
On 25 and probably every other fight on 10 man (including Blackhorn imo since you do stack a fair amount there and in ph2 your proc should be in range of your tanks/melee I think) LFR maw > anything else. |

Sure, during certain phases of those fights no doubt. But we're not working on heroic spine or madness, so people take those less seriously (and hence our positioning is always a mess). Yor'sahj and Zon'ozz I could only utilize maw periodically throughout the fight. |

If the damage going out doesn't matter, then, it doesn't matter at all what weapon you use.
People discuss these when healing MATTERS. So fine, sure, you can equip whatever else when it's farm content, because it's FARM CONTENT. Hell, I tanked Madness of Deathwing once with an Argent tourney lance equipped because we were bored out of our skulls (healers and me). That doesn't mean you should or you can do so when it matters (e.g. on heroic). Glad you have the whole concept down; if people stack, its value goes up. Here's the thing though, it's not about overall HPS - the parts of Madness where you do stack is when healing gets intensive. When you spread out, barely any damage goes out anyway (Corruption Crushes). So the point is you should definitely have Maw equipped for something like Madness, because the stacked parts are the only parts that truly matter for healing output. |

I started binding them to hotkeys and using accordingly since you can swap weapons in combat. I think once you have the normal version of maw though, you should just stick with it IMO.

It's really not the secondary stats though as much as it's the spellpower, which is pretty huge! |

Compared to RF maw, Heroic Vagaries has approx an extra:
80 extra intellect 1.1k spell power 140 crit 150 haste The question is does the proc make it worth it? For a disc priest, Heroic Vagaries is better. I would, however, take norm Maw in its place. |

basically like gamex said if youre really wanting to min max keybind each weapon and if youre ever spread like running around on herioc morchok then swap to herioc vagaries if you are stacked up swap to the maw

regardless of how you look at it... the 2 are nearly equal. With a slight edge going to Maw in entirely stacked situations and a slight edge going to Vagaries anytime you don't have the entire raid in front of you. They are so close its not really worth debating.

Compared to RF maw, Heroic Vagaries has approx an extra: RF Maw SP: 2607 RF Maw Int: 195 H Vagaries SP: 3142 (+535 over RF Maw) H Vagaries Int: 215 + 50 with gem (+70 over RF Maw) For a total of extra 605 SP, assuming a 1-1 Int:SP ratio. Not sure where you're getting an extra 400 SP from. |
