RP Server Survey Project

Edited by Azastala on 3/18/12 1:28 PM (PDT)
Greetings, Steamwheedle Cartel!
I am posting this thread on every RP server aside from Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord. This is a survey of RP activity on the various RP servers, many of which are only vaguely known by WoW's RP community at large. This was inspired by a handful of requests for insight on the various RP servers, which were met only with talk of Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord. However, there are over a dozen RP servers out there, one of which is yours. I would like to gather the feedback from each of these surveys after a week for a general consensus and post the findings altogether. So if you are a role player, a member of an RP guild or have experiences and/or insight to share on the RP community of your server, for one faction or both, then please represent in this thread within one week of the original posting date. Thank you very much to everyone who participates. ******************************** EDIT For Additional Notes! 1. Replies From Trolls Will Not Be Included In The Final Results Report / Every Server Has Its Trolls 2. The Final Results Reports Will Be Posted On The World's End Tavern Forum 3. Potential Feedback Topics : - A history of the RP community - Where the RP community is at / How the RP community is doing now - Where new players to the server can go to find RP (RP 'hotspots') - What the RP is like (very guild-based, more random, faction events, etc) - Current RP Guilds (and what they're all about) Again thank you very much to everyone who participates! Let's keep the creative writing alive! =) |

-A history of the RP community
No. Just... no. - Where the RP community is at / How the RP community is doing now Struggling. You will notice the threads on this forum have scattered RP references. Most of it is raid recruitment. That's where we're at. - Where new players to the server can go to find RP (RP 'hotspots') If you look around you will find several examples of me writing "Roleplay is not looted, it is crafted". This server, any server... that's where you'll find it. Pull it out of y'r back pocket, lay it down, and advertise! - What the RP is like (very guild-based, more random, faction events, etc) We have events. Events are known. Guild based? Mebbe, but only the guilds would know. - Current RP Guilds (and what they're all about) Please see the guild list Sticky. There are more than are listed there... but still precious few. First responder Zam is a roleplayer of long standing and renown. I just know he saw the "history" question... realized he could write a trilogy... and then wept realizing the raid recruiters would never even look at it. |
Nevermind the recruiters. I just wept at the idea of writing a trilogy, period. But I will give my efforts. UGH. - A history of the RP community <deep breath> TLDR version. RP happened. For a while SWC was flourishing with RP. Big events, big epic plots, bustling community. Big names. Big egos. The works. MG appeared on the map. A few folks moved to MG. Nothing major. Then drama happened, down went the original SWCRP boards (I still miss those). A few big names left for WRA. SWCRP2 was hosted. Things still flourished. Then burn out happened. Then RL happened. Then attrition happened. Then more WRA happened. What remained of the folks here moved to WRA, a few to MG. Then more RL/attrition/burnout happened. By then WRA and MG have already established themselves as "THE" rp place. So naturally, all newbloods flocked to those. With the low pop on SWC, what remained on SWC more flocked off to those greener pastures as well. There was a minor boost when SWC became a free xfer ground. Didn't help much. Repeat burnout, RL...etc Then SWTOR happened. RP servers across the board lost people to SWTOR. Low pop servers being hit hardest. Just check out WRA, all big names disappeared to SWTOR to swing lightsabers. I think that's were we stand atm. SWC is down the road that day 1 servers such as AD, ER, CC all walked on and started its change to a PvE Major. RP Minor server.- Where the RP community is at / How the RP community is doing now SWC has RP community forums. It has a plenty of lurkers but few posters. RP happens, usually due to events. It can be found if you want it and you start it and ring the bell for people to show up for it (and they do show up for it). Walking around at night hoping for something to have already started where you can just jump in and leech usually gets you nowhere.- Where new players to the server can go to find RP (RP 'hotspots') Hordeside can join /swcooc and just rally people. Folks show up for it. Or you can try your luck in Wyvern's Tail. Or use /swcrp as an IC RP hook. ...Brill was an amazing hotspot until Blizzard bulldozed it down and turned it into propaganda central (still spitting angry over that even now) and turned all major non-Org/Stormwind cities a !@#$% to get to. Allyside: no frickin clue. Can join /alliedooc to gather, or join /alliedrp for IC. There is also /theCrow for a tavern bsaed Rp. Or find a guild and join one of their very private IC channels. Or get make a friend and start it. There seems to be no 'hotspot' for it in Stormwind at the moment. (Once in a while, you will find a gnome in the graveyard /shameless plug) - What the RP is like (very guild-based, more random, faction events, etc) Most of the time it takes a rallycall "Gather at X for X" for RP to show. No idea on guild-based (they keep to themselves and stay off the map for the most part). Walkarounds are non existent save for the occasional night where you have two friends going at it. Or on hordeside, the few hands around the tavern until somebody decides to throw a punch. There is usually a gathering for major world event (I can at least promise one major Halloween Bash per year). - Current RP Guilds (and what they're all about) Don't know any pure RP guilds nowadays (there are 2 hordeside whose name escapes me at the moment). Plenty of "We PvE but we also have a RP branch" types or "We raid a ton but we have quite a few RPers who do stuff by themselves" sorts. |

Azastala,
I took a look at your thread on several of the other realm forums. Two things I noticed... RP used to be better. It fell apart after BC. |
|
Zamboozle summed everything up fairly well without going into the nasty details.
Roleplay is largely done in inner circles now. Events are sometimes hosted with low attendance on hordeside. events often have a loose objective/plot that allows players the flexibility to contribute ICCly in their own way (Gallywix's Pleasure Palace spa is popular for scheduled casual IC gatherings as well as the hot springs in Borean Tundra [any excuse to wear skimpy clothing but at least not as bad as Goldshire]) Steadfast does (should do, rather [we've been slacking as of late]) weekly in-guild roleplay events. Steadfast Lore Master, Solivar, has been attempting to stir up interest in a cross-faction event as she also promoted it on SWC's facebook page:
SWC's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/steamwheedleUS/ I do hope the realm takes her initiative seriously because she is truly an untapped resource that has proven to be beneficial to the roleplay environment within Steadfast. |

There's more RP hordeside? That's pretty shiny. Granted, it's not like I can be serious hordeside.... xD For what ever reason, my lone hordie on this server is always made amusing. He can't stay serious for any event. Granted, that might be the fault of who he goes to bars with....
|
|
Really, with my blood elf friend...? I can't be serious. You get me away from him and I can be fairly serious. But when Jovvan's around I just have to sit back, heckle, and then peel him off the wall when he does stupid !@#$.
