So, is the consensus for Ivy Bridge release for this Monday (the 23rd)?

Unless they change it again, yes.

Just get a SB if you're worried about the IB temps. Really only an issue(not even a HUGE issue) with OCing from what I see. If you're not OCing I think IB would be a good choice.

SB is still amazing and top of the line.

Is there any need for overclocking for just gaming, Fraps and video editing?

OCing will help and also can squeeze a couple more years for your pc.

The heating problems on the GTX 480 are a little over rated, IMHO. But then again, I have 4 120mm fans blowing air through my case. The biggest problem with the 480 GTX is power, you need something with at least 42amps on the 12v rails, which is excessive to say the least. At nearly $100 cheaper then the 570 GTX, there is no doubt it's a good deal performance wise. But you really have to have the right setup for this card, lots of airflow, and a beefy 700w+ power supply.

Kalg after I built my computer I mentioned something about my front audio jacks not working properly, and you said you had to set up something special to get them to work. What exactly does that involve?

Also, MSI has had my card for about a week now, so hopefully during this week I'll find out what's happening with it.

The front audio jack's connector must be connected to aux_in (or named similar) on the motherboard

So... I've had my HD Audio plug plugged in wrong for the past two months. I had it plugged in two prongs to the right >.> None of the plugs appear to have been damaged by that, as I can now use my front audio plugins. This would have saved me so much trouble earlier...

Doesn't hurt to double check always when in doubt. :)

Yea. I've had to sit really close to my computer as my headphone cord is really short, yet had to be plugged into the back jack. I couldn't sit back in my chair without the cord being extremely tight.

Anyways, I'm hoping Radeon 7870 gets the Twin Frozr IV treatment, but it looks like 7850 is getting it first. That is one awesome looking cooler. Do you know exactly what the GPU Core Reactor thing does?

And has the 7000 price adjustment changed the best bang for the buck card?

Yes, 7950 is now a tempting deal (while 7800 series prices didn't drop). Lower-end recommendations are 7750, 7770, while upper echelons have alternatively recommended 7950 and 7970. 7950 is now teamkilling 7870 because for $50 more, you get a card that plays with GTX 680 and HD 7970 easily (through OC).

GPU core reactor thing is supposed to improve OC ability, but reviews I've seen seem to indicate it doesn't do all that much, but better than none.

I'm probably still going to go with 7870 or 7950 then if the thing with my graphics card doesn't work out. MSI has had it for a week now, and processing supposedly takes one to two weeks, so I'm hoping to know what's happening within the next few days. I've held off on a monitor purchase until I get this card issue resolved.
hey kal, im looking at building a pc for the first time and was looking at these parts from newegg. Can you tell me if they wont work together or if one of the items isn't very good or something please. My budget maxes around $1350-1400. I play on a 23 inch monitor at 1920x1280 reso. The total price on these items (after 1 yr warranty on mobo, gpu, cpu and hard drive and shipping) is $1312.50 Also, I dont really plan on overclocking.

If you will not overclock, wait just one more week for the Ivy Bridge CPU instead. In addition, if you will not overclock, go with the cheapest i5 option available (such as i5-2300 or i5-3450/i5-3330), and ASRock H61M/U3S3 (unless you will do SLi/XFire, then in which, I recommend either of Z77 motherboards I recommend in my guide). ASRock H61M/U3S3 requires BIOS update before it can use Ivy Bridge CPUs.

750W is overkill if you are just using a single graphics card. I recommend 500W (600W if you will get a high-end graphics card some day) 80 Plus Bronze certified power supply (example) PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III series).

K so i switched the psu and mobo to:

-PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III 600W Modular 80PLUS Bronze Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3 i5 ...
-ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Price dropped to $1193 :)
and are i5-3450/i5-3330 those the ivy bridge models? Not really sure the difference between ivy/sandy haha

i5-3450/3330 are the Ivy Bridge models. i5-2300 is the Sandy Bridge models. If you do not want to wait, you can just go with i5-2300.

By going with Z77, I assume you want to do SLi/XFire someday?

not 100% sure if i will but i just want to leave myself the flexibility if i want too

Sure. If you do that, you will also need a new power supply.

Depending on what model you will CrossFireX / SLi, you will need anywhere from 750W to 850W. Corsair Enthusiast V2 models (like one you originally picked out) would be recommended then. I'd also strongly recommend to pick up the modular version of it unless you are fine with dealing with lots of unused wires.

ok so if i get z77 and i dont sli/crossfire is the 600w psu that i picked out good still?

Yes, that quality 600W will power any single card with no problem.
