My guild has never been a hugely active guild, in fact was mostly a banking guild and a storage place

The main problem with this type of thread is that people come on and only accuse the former GL of wrongdoing and negligence. The OP is so stupid, because he didn't take the necessary precautions to protect the guild.

Oh, well. I don't care about that side of the story.

What I'm suggesting is something could be done to protect guilds so people can't randomly get a guild, kick everybody out, and take everything in the guild bank for themselves.

Doesn't anybody else see that it's wrong to do that?

No email is sent. That I would have seen for sure and I would have fixed the problem.

I would think adding that little step in would be a measure of protection for the GM. Most people check their email every day or at the very least, every few days - even if they aren't logging into the game.

Request is made to remove GM. 20 days go by. Blizz auto sends email. Gives GM seven days to log in and resolve the situation. If they don't, then they are removed as GM.

so you want the process to take 57 days?
entirely too long for a guild to go leaderless

Good idea, Kilbeggan. I've seen too many threads by former GMs complaining that they weren't given notification of the dethroning process.

My suggestion removed that.

Whether your guild was active or not, it's your job to look after it.

If you couldn't log on once in 30 days, you do not deserve to be leader of a guild.

If I was in a guild that was completely inactive I would take it over too. Why? Because my reasoning is, if no ones been online in over a month, they aren't going to miss anything they have in here. Obviously they aren't coming back for it.

Sorry, but these threads have been seen 1000000000 times and it's the same deal;
"I'm angry at Blizzard because I was careless, and now someone who is actually going to use the guild is in control of it and I don't like that because I was the one who first created it"

You can't fault the OP for putting real life before this game. Anyone who says otherwise is completely full of themselves.

Maybe he had a lot of college classes that had to be caught up on. Maybe bills were tight that month and he couldn't afford game time.

But nothing deserves having his guild stolen from him, and sorry but that's exactly what happened here.

No it isn't. He doesn't own the guild. Blizzard does. And it's Blizzards policy that says if you can't look after a guild you can't be leader, sorry. If you don't show up to school you get kicked out, if you don't show up to your job you get fired. And if you can't look after a guild you should not be in the leadership position.

Sorry but these are all just excuses. If you don't have game time, you can't look after a guild. If you have such a busy life you can't log on for 2 seconds in one whole month, you cannot look after a guild.

If it truly was only used for storage, the OP should have kicked anyone who wasn't friends or family.

He should have been more careful, and wasn't.

And if you don't show up to school, they call your home / parents or send authorities out to check on your welfare.

And if you don't show up to your job, they attempt to contact you or send authorities out to check on your welfare. Hence the "emergency contact" people are required to list in their personnel files during the hiring process.

If someone just stops logging on, by all means...I agree they probably need to be removed. I just don't see the harm in attempting to contact them out of game first as a fail-safe. No one knows what may have come up in a persons life to cause them not to log in.

If you didn't want your guild taken, then you should have kicked everyone else out before you took a hiatus, or just be more careful about who you invite into your guild.

There's nothing Blizzard can or will do about it.

I can understand the need for an email to be sent to the guild leader first, and do agree they should do this.

Have you ticketed Blizzard yet? A lot of the time they will assist you in getting your things back if it was an unjust takeover.
