Why 49s?

The highest burst and damage-to-healing ratio makes for the most intense XP-off bracket in the game. I play in four different brackets and have fun in all of them. I love 49s for how much small things make a big impact, bringing the intensity right to the crumbling edge of manageable. One mistake can prompt a trip to the spirit healer, one clutch heal can give a teammate the extra 2 seconds to burst down an opponent, one well-called focus fire and CC can turn the tide in a flash.

When you win in 49s, you know why you won. When you die, you know why you died.

In addition, a lot of 49ers "get" what XP-off is really about these days. This is the digital version of a pick-up game of basketball, and if that means finding ways to even out teams to make better games, 49s generally do it. You'll see trash-talkers, epeens, and trolls, but at the end of the day, you have people congratulating each other cross-faction on teamspeak for good plays and epic battles.

@Newcomers looking at old gear lists and @Veterans who have been inactive for the greater part of the century, immediately below is a list of Important Things That Have Changed:

• Remember to turn off experience gain!
• Maraudon items are redundant.
• Sunken Temple items are unusable.
• Many items from Blackrock Depths, such as Ribsplitters, are also unusable.
• Scholomance, Stratholme, and Dire Maul are now tuned to lower levels than before, and have gear and quest rewards usable at 49.
• Most importantly, ALL Battlegroups (yes, all of them) have been merged for PvP, so 49s who didn't transfer to Ruin for 3.2 (or level out) can now get games!

@49 gear question: Shorter than a 70 but longer than a 29. Several classes use BOAs as BIS and some dont.

If you're already at 49, depending on the class it's really a matter of how many runs you get a day and how lucky you are with drops. You can probably get 75%+ BiS without much effort, and the rest of your gear will just rely on RNG in dungeon runs.

Example: My rogue - all but 1 ring, gloves, mainhand, and belt were quests/BoA/BoE/vendor
My ring is a ≈45 minute quest chain in tanaris, my mainhand is a fairly common drop from the second boss in strat undead side, Gloves are from first boss in RFD - but Of the Monkey is a pretty common drop, and Belt is from a boss in Ring of Law in BrD (One of 6 bosses can spawn each run, and each boss drops 1 of 4 items, ≈1/25 chance of getting it each run)

it depends on how many bad groups you get, after getting fail groups all day you will want to kill people. ive been 49 forever im just too lazy to deal with the morons that i get grouped with

i have a level 33 druid, balance/feral any good at 49?

think i have enough honor to get the BOA mace too

edit: already have the BOA chest and shoulders, chest is enchanted with 4 stats

edit2: the BOA pieces are the leather agility, i also have the cloth BOA enchanted, including the staff and mace (also enchanted)

@Devastated: Feral and Balance are pretty good. Both the BOA head and Chest are viable so you're pretty good along the way.

Why are you even grouping with idiots at all :/ Add a few of us on real id and we'll do dungeon runs/satchel runs and get you geared in no time.

Feral is really strong damage wise, no so much support. Boomkin is good damage wise, and solid support. It's easier to preform well as a feral but a good boomkin > a good feral imo. Resto also works reasonably well too, I'd put them as third best healer (above resto shamans)

yeah i leveld a feral up to about 64 a couple months ago, crazy damage but really boring gameplay.

i really love playing boomkin, it's actually has a really high skill-cap

played resto through the 49 bracket as well... never again
