Mages look weak in MOP #2 continued
|
|
When Hunters were weak, we were told to Learn 2 Play. Haha, too true. Welcome to a day in the life of the pvp hunter, Mages! As an honorary hunter you too will experience the new and improved joys of: Having no dps with melee humping your face! Few reliable escape mechanisms! Low survivability while being trained! Few instants and having to cast to have meaningful dps! If we could make it work so can you! Act now! positions are limited! |
I'm not arguing that roots will never work, I'm arguing that the changes make frost significantly weaker than arcane or fire. This, coupled with a reduction in roots and increased melee uptime, makes burst in a shatter mean less than damage outside of one. Giving Fire and arcane shatter, deep freeze and (access to) frost barrier give them a huge jump in terms of durability, burst and control. They both have better damage on the move than frost and they'll have slow or dragon's breath, which are much stronger than pet freeze in a low dispel/no FoF off freeze environment. They can still setup a shatter combo off a root, the only thing they miss out on is frost's mastery. Except their masteries are no slouch either and have excellent synergy with shatter + spec abilities (setting up a monster combustion and spreading it with an inferno blast or getting a deep freeze to stick and spamming AP fueled AB's into them). |

I don't think the sky is falling here guys. You are in a pretty strong place at the moment, so a little toning back hardly makes you "weak".

Your right its the buffs that the melee specs have received on top of the mage nerfs that make mages weak. |

Mages getting nerfed in MoP...
Good. |

Mages getting nerfed in MoP... Coming from a rogue that is simply too hypocritical. |

After viewing this video taken from the beta, I think it is safe to say that Mages will continue be one of the strongest PvP classes in MoP.
DO NOT underestimate the power of the back peddle blink! XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmGmrUXlyuk |

After viewing this video taken from the beta, I think it is safe to say that Mages will continue be one of the strongest PvP classes in MoP. My favorite part of that video was Swifty losing his mind about how "overpowered" the Improved Invisibility glyph will be in Arena. I don't think he knows it's already been in the game throughout all of Cata... |
After viewing this video taken from the beta, I think it is safe to say that Mages will continue be one of the strongest PvP classes in MoP. As much as this thread is incorrect and farfetched.... Swifty is just clueless. "Now mages will have to glyph to get healed by Evocation" |

Mages getting nerfed in MoP... Rogues are also getting nerfed and I doubt you're going to find much sympathy especially from melee. |

When Hunters were weak, we were told to Learn 2 Play. There's a major difference. Hunter skill cap is probably the highest in the game - they have the tools, they're just difficult to pull off. Mages are losing tools altogether while other classes are gaining enough tools hard counter us even if we didn't lose the tools to begin with. We're facing a double nerf. The concept of an entire class being a "glass cannon" is not where current pvp design lies. That is not an acceptable archetype in today's pvp. We're a kiting class with damage synergy in our kiting tools. We're losing those kiting tools, and as such we're losing our damage. So this is not a L2P issue. Mages are getting nerfed into the ground, and this is the appropriate feedback to give blizzard in its beta testing. |
That was my personal favorite as well. "All mages are going to take this" Good call there Nostradamus. |

Having played beta today, i can assure you that fire mages seem fine.
However, beta is too bugged atm to judge how it is going to end. Just to point a few problems, aff. locks are getting 1s CD/3s duration interrupts with the beholder pet, novas are breaking with very small amounts of damage, making frostjaw completely useless, and i can't get macros to work, so no /stopcasting and [mod] macros. Even so, melee classes are still easy to kill (Simple combo: LB, root, deep freeze, scorch->IBlast-> Pyro, Combustion), and ice barrier is absorbing A LOT (don't know if that's intended or a bug). Some classes are waaaay too OP however, specifically hunters and druids. Hunters are healing more than i could have ever hoped, and druids got their mage hard-counter status back. |

Do better how?
Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. I could always point to the blizzcon 2011 winning team having a hunter. |
|
So they carried him to winning the finals. Right. I'm pretty sure he carried his own weight at that level. People relying on others to let their class shine is something that applies to every class. Hunters are not special there.
You're acting like he didn't want to play his class there because he was bogging the team down. My point still stands. |
