Uhm, no, between being wind sheared, and having a grounding totem dropped, and said healers saying 'hey, wake the frack up, arcane mincemeat over there!' No, they really can't handle it, plus most healers can heal through until the mage runs out of mana. He's gonna need help, or a healer of his own. Playing arcane mage in a bg is its own death sentence, so whatever.

The healing debuff thing is its own little amusement. For some reason, I don't find that it stops me healing people. The trick with a shammy is to take care to abuse the hell out of mastery. The more damaged my target is, the more I heal him for. I don't know if other healers have their little trick around wound poisons and heal debuffs, but shammies sure do. I toss out a riptide to keep a small tick and purposefully wait until I can cast a large heal on someone these days with all the healing debuffs. Mastery > debuff, so eat it.

Like Doom, do ya? Yeah, it's about the same thing. Against people who know how to use their classes, well, God Mode awaits. I'm way better with the shammy than with this rogue. Heck, I even take advice on the rogue. lol. I have a priest, too. Its survivability sucks, which explains some of Pained's pain, so I get it. The pally is a toughie, but doesn't have the tools a shammy has. God mode, indeed. Shammy is as IDDQD as healing gets in wow. |

Actually I don't die much in randoms or arenas. I play just about every toon (except mage) at a high level and have a decent grasp on their mechanics. I don't joke around when I say I literally smite things do death and don't die. In fact, without trying to sound too conceited, I could very well be part of the reason why people show up here so much to complain about healers. I don't know if it is a me thing or a priest thing but disc priests survival is actually really good. If you want pointers I have no problems helping out another healer learn their class.

That would be great, thanks. Always ready to learn new tricks. I have pain suppression, reflective shields, and barrier. I can get people off me with a fear, though just the one. How do I keep rogues from carving me up like a thanksgiving dinner?

Well lets stay away from the gear/gem/reforging options for a moment because there is more than one way to play disc. Lets focus on spec to start. I would say Inspiration and desperate prayer in the holy tree are absolute musts for any healing spec priest. In the disc tree lets take a few points out of the offensive abilities for now like evangelism and atonement and put them into the holy tree which will work your way up towards desperate prayer. Mind you I play very offensive as disc priest but my spec I tend to believe is defensive in nature for those "oh crap I have a rogue and a mage both trained on me" moments.
After that you have to start deciding how do you want to play your priest? Do you want to focus on mastery to carry you through with more dmg absorbtion and lots of instant cast spells to top you off while you run like mad or you could chose to stack haste shaving valuable time off big casts reducing a rogues chance to interrupt you. Mastery has an advantages but I prefer haste myself. What fits your play style? |

I have in the past specced into desperate prayer, and to be honest, I find it similar to a fire mage's cauterize, except I can't ice-block afterwards. Mastery for me only increases my shield rate, and not by so much. It only lasts 15 secs, and if it expires before then, I get no mana return for my troubles. You see, I only get the return if it is expended, not expired. Plus, it's real easy to simply purge, if you have, say, a half decent shammy deciding to take you out and just spamming lb->purge over and over again. He regains the mana he lost from the purge, so there is no hit, and he keeps right on after me hitting me with frost shock and unleash frost. I can only cast PW:S every 15 sec, and so get the movement increase. The rest of the time, well, his team has me slowed real bad. Then the bastard drops his totem to cleanse the fear, and well, I'm screwed for defensive cd's for like 30 sec. Not good.
Renew, being an instant cast spell, of course, I cast, but unlike riptide, it doesn't benefit from my mastery, and well, is rather pathetic. I have my armor buff glyphed from cloth items, of course, but 100*0 is still 0, so it's no match for mail and a shield. After my fear is dispersed, well, I can try to bubble again, but it gets purged, and I can't do another one for 15 sec, whereas that bastard's earth shield is lasting 10 minutes on whoever he casted it on. This is important, see, because even if I stun him or whatever, he doesn't have to renew it in 15 secs. Thats a big deal. He can even cast it right before he dies, and heal in the graveyard. I can't do that. I can't cast anything but instants while moving - he can with spirit walker's grace. I just feel so cheated. You see, the rogue or melee class just eats me alive no matter the renew or respec. Damage absorption can be simply purged quite easily, and I have no recourse. Haste is great, yes, because then I can get some flash heals off when I am under my shield before it gets purged, but really, if all I do is heal myself, well, I'm not doing my job, am I? Is there a way to approximate shammy survivability with the skills I have? |

Mage complaining bout healers, go frost all your worries will be over, i go from full to half health in a deep freeze w/ 4800something resil & thats a good day. Better advice has not been had for you all day. Arcane is a death wish. Frost, if you are any good at all, is the ticket. But then I'll still purge your pathetic snares and heal him, because I hate you, too. I'm an equal opportunity hater. His advice is sound. Frost is your friend. That and some sort of run increase, cause I like frost as much as you. |

I would have to try your spec out first for a while before I could answer that question properly but at first glance I would have to say no =/ |

And you're right. Aside from a few changes to holy our specs are similar. You are nothing compared to a resto shammy, and it is something I think blizz should change. Far from advocating a nerf for priests, they need a buff, and a serious one. |
No. Shadow priests are in a nice spot with dispersion and short cd complete silence. We're talking about healing priests, disc in particular. |

Mhmm. That's pretty unlikely, unless the three healers were all miraculously cc'd. Possible if a premade for you, unlikely otherwise. First thing to do is toss my ES onto the FC, then switch frostbrand, then get into your melee range and hit you, then frost shock, then unleash frost. Riptide FC as he nears 40 yd range just for kicks while you are occupied. Drop earthbind, switch back to earthliving, ghostwolf or mount as the situation calls for. Refresh FC ES and riptide. You are way behind now. You must have had a great pre made coordinating on vent, or you are full of crap, or you ran into three priests discussing the latest koan from Tibet and not doing their jobs. Nobody is going to let you get off that sort of attack, and even in shadow dance, you have to wait for energy to ambush. If you think 2 ambushes will beat my riptide and es, and that I won't be melee frostrbranding you the whole time, well, you better rethink. I have no problem running to you, so don't bother to sprint. Not a problem to cast an instant cleanse on the FC while he's in 40 yd range and keep hitting you, either. Frostbrand procs surprisingly often. |

the only healer that would pose any problem is paladins. All the others are very easy to kill even disc priests.
