Holy paladins wearing non plate

So I've probably healed at least 20 dungeons and yesterday I had someone call me out as being a "noob" for wearing healing items that were not plate. Why does it matter? Plate healing items are few and far between and I'll take any piece of armor I can get my hands on that has stats that will improve my healing abilities. Am I missing something or is that guy just an !@#$%^-?

You get 5% more intellect for wearing all plate. It's not worth giving that bonus up in most situations.

It's excusable before level 85, because you indeed can lack plate options before then. However, with the HUGE variety of JP/VP stuff available now, as well as the crafted options, there's really no excuse at 85.

I mean, sure, the plate options SEEM lacking, but you are the only spec out of 30 in the game who wants to roll on intellect plate, whereas there are at least 2 or (most often) many more specs who will roll on intellect cloth, intellect leather, mail, etc.

Bull!@#$. It's excusable up to maybe level 70. MAYBE. By the time you hit WotLK plate int items are all around. At level 50, you get your plate specialisation, after then you should be looking to replace every piece of armour with plate.

Unless you're using heirlooms. Then the 5% increase becomes laughable until level 80. I'd imagine it was that same in Wrath because a 5% increase to intellect really isn't much until you get to Cata where you have thousands of it. 5% of 5000 is a pretty big deal, but 5% of 250 while leveling no less is laughable =/

.... Please tell me the OP is a troll. If not, then yes you deserved every bit of yelling at you that you got. If I was tanking and got you as a healer, wearing non plate gear, I would kick you so fast your head would spin, as would most tanks.

He came and asked a question. Treating him negatively for getting clarified on the issue is pretty damn silly.

I tank in leather.

The only excuse for not wearing full plate (AS HOLY) is if you're wearing an Heirloom helmet. You should have a Stormforge helmet or better sitting in your bags to equip once you hit 85.

Im afraid hes right OP. As has been said in this thread you get 5% more intellect for using plate. It can be excused at low levels but around wrath/cata content you really should try to get holy plate.

Worst comes to worst save us some JP from running dungeons below 85 to buy Holy Plate items from the JP Vendor.

/shrugs, that's nice.

Yeah, I applaud him/her for coming here to ask, but seriously? How is it even a question that needs to be asked? Why would someone play a class upon which the success of the encounter hinges so much without bothering to do even the most basic of research first? Why would you coddle this behavior by being 'nice' to such a player? Strong reactions to ineptitude are far more likely to facilitate learning than lukewarm ones.

Probably cause its a video game and most people dont research video games? Maybe cause there are no in-game tutorials.

But then again hes doing just what you said, hes doing research now and your flaming him for it.

And no, strong reactions to "mistakes" cause people to get defensive and keep on doing what they are doing and call their potential source of answers full of jerks and ignore it completely.

Besides, rudeness is a sign of weakness of character.

Because some people play this game for fun, and not more than 1-2 hours every couple of days, and they don't research. There's the common saying, "Know your audience". If the player is some casual dungeon hero he's not going to react very well to being told how big of a moron he is. If you're dealing with someone whose apping to your 8/8H guild and is gemmed like a mouth-breather, then yeah you tear him apart. Why? Because he's trying to be hardcore, and be the best of the best. Those types of people will take that criticism and improve on it.

For some people doing a single dungeon is fun. So they miss stuff sometimes. The OP looks like he's maybe done a couple of normal mode bosses. He didn't get his shoulders until 4/10 so that means he had a 15% nerf on his kill. Was it his first? Not sure, but probably was not a farm kill for him. He probably just does raid-finder, dungeons, and maybe kills a couple normal mode bosses.

The only time I get angry with people is when people say they've researched when it's clear they haven't. I'm the author of the elemental sticky on the shaman forum (and been in since WoTLK), so I've dealt with every type of player that posts on the forum. I've raged at plenty of people who are wearing cloth, not gemmed correctly, and do the wrong rotation, then say I feel like I'm doing everything right, and I've researched.

Yeah, I blow a bit of rage off them. Likewise if I have the same person who asks for help, but doesn't lay claim to researching and putting time into their toon I'll point them to the sticky, and tell them to come back and ask questions after reading it. I once even had someone, and he literally said this, "I don't want to read the stickies. They're too long, so someone please tell me everything about it instead". You did not want to be that guy. Several of my posts got reported, and deleted for that.

Point is: Choose where you put your rage. Rage on casuals isn't really the place.

It's downright retarded hilarious.

...until people realize I fold like a wet noodle and then 4-5 people focus me.
