"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
"Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 296.10 stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Starting Wednesday evening 4/25, I can no longer enter the game world without the game locking up. The character select screen appears just fine, however when I enter the game world after the loading screen, a partially rendered game world will appear for a split second and then the screen will go black. I can hear some ambient game sounds but I can't see anything. I was able to log in just fine in the morning.

http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x300/grifffin/?action=view&current=graphicbug.jpg

The lock-up occurs when running anything higher than Fair graphics settings and with or without mods running. Prior to this occurring, I could run the game at High graphics settings with no problems.

The only other time I noticed anything weird was a few days prior where the framerate was about 15fps, even on the character select screen, however a comp restart fixed this.

This only affects WoW, I can play BF3, Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2 on High graphics settings without any problems.

I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers and I even tried the Beta drivers, but the result is the same. I've even tried buying a brand new video card, but the same problem occurs.

I tried launching using DX11 and I can get into the game now and move around, but the world graphics are strobing when I move around. I'm going to try a fresh download.

This error is actually a known Nvidia issue.

Here's a link with detailed information about the issue that was posted on their site: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=100800&st=0

I haven't seen an actual fix for this issue, but I have seen some reports stating that the new Nvidia Beta drivers have fixed it for some, so that's something you may want to try.

Here's a link for the driver download: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-301.24-beta-driver.html

When you are going to install the driver I would like for you to select "Custom Install" > Uncheck everything except for the graphics driver > Check the "Perform a clean install" box > Continue with the install

I'll look into this later, just wanted to quick post that you are not alone.

I dl the Diablo3 beta client last weekend, SUPER excited to play. I dl the client fine, but it told me my vid drivers were out of date.

I dutifully dl the new drivers... and my reward... is spending the next 2 days fixing a Blue Screen of Death. Never got to play the beta. :(

So I fix it, and it involved rolling back to the old drivers. Fine as long as it's working.

But I'm doing the beta for GW2 this weekend, and was getting like 3 fps. I took a gamble, installed the new drivers... and now I get a playable rate in the low 20s. BUT--->

If I try and run WoW, it crashes with a BSOD.

Everything else is fine, just can't play WoW. nVidia and Blizzard issue?? I hope the above solutions help!

Funny thing, so I backed-up my old install of WoW and then did a fresh install of WoW. I was actually able to launch the game and do everything just fine. When I copied over my old WTF folder into the new install, all the old corrupted graphic problems started happening again. So whatever is causing all of my problems is in that folder. I've redownloaded fresh copies of all my old mods and I'm working on reconfiguring them, but so far everything is working properly.

Thanks for the help guys.

Now I get to return a video card... ;P

beta Nvidia drivers did not fix the problem. I'd get to the loading screen to type my password in and it would just alternate between a black screen and the load screen for about 2-3 mins and then BSOD.

Only solution was to choose a restore point before the Diablo3 beta, which was when all these problems started.

Working fine now, but obviously, something is wrong with Nvidia drivers and how they play with Blizzard.

I know this thread is old, but I just wanted to add that this exact thing started suddenly last night and nothing but reinstalling the game fixed it. I spent three hours searching forums and trying to update drivers and nothing else worked. Thanks for the tip. Seems to be fine now.

I had this same issue when I built this PC in January with a GTX 560 Ti. I rolled back to the 275.33 driver and it stopped. I've been watching closely to see if new builds have fixed the issue but as of a couple weeks ago when I last checked the Nvidia forums the issue was still being reported.

For now 275.33 continues to be stable for me so I won't change unless I have to.

this actually happened to me last night, only wow was doing it. so I updated to the new beta drivers and everything nothing seemed to work past low graphics, so I put it on dx11 and now everything runs back on ultra. if you are banging your head against the wall like I was try running in dx11 first!

I had this same problem today. In order to fix it i first copied my "PERCIUS" folder from under the server name folder in the WTF folder to my desktop. After that i deleted everything else in the wtf and restarted the game. Logged in and everything was fine. i closed out the game and replaced the new "PERCIUS" folder with the old one when i logged back in the graphics were shot again. closed game deleted "PERCIUS" again opened game back up and it was fine again.

Whatever the problem was at least in my case it seems to have come from my characters named folder in WTF.

WTF indeed.

'm having the same issue after a fresh install of the client. I have no mods at all as I am just etting back into the game after about a year off.

I am running an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB. I installed the latest version of drivers (Driver version 9.18.13.623, Released: 8/30/2012). No other Blizzard games have presented this issue; neither Starcraft II or Diablo III.

So, with that said, I think I am going to go get a Frosty and come back to this issue after that...
