Who would win in a 1on1 between a fire mage and a frost mage? assume all cata or equal gear and equal skill (same person dueling himself if were able to).

who would win? all cds are upi know it depends on crits from the fire mage to do massive damage but even if he gets this, the frost can iceblock. but on the other hand, the frost mage can't cast and relies on instants to kill

RnG wins... fire is praying he gets a good combustion, frost is hoping he can get a good shatter chain... Chuck Norris cant even beat the RnG BOSS encounter

Frost would win... How could you combust a frost mage when they can just block it off? Mage armor reduces ignite which is a huge part of our damage by a lot and we have to hard cast scorch and getting hard interrupted in mage vs mage is a big deal

My uneducated guess is I would lean towards Frost since it's very 1v1 oriented, but a Fire Mage gets the edge in a LOS situation.

lol so you think a fire would use his 2min CD before IB? no, would let everything else tick while hes slippn out of ice.. if the frosty never ice blocks hes taking absurd dmg the whole time while waiting for that shatter that never comes.; and if by devine grace it does come, the fire cauterizes->IB(all while his dmg is still tickn frosty)..

i am by no means saying that its guaranteed in either way, but it def doesnt lean twrds the frost mage

Fire wins without question provided there is LoS.A frost mage dueling a fire mage is just begging to be spell stolen, think of how big an impact stealing Icy veins, ice barrier, brain freeze procs makes for a fire mage. If the frost mage spell steals a pyroblast! proc or two, not a huge deal compared to stealing free fireball procs.

then the fire mage just needs to stand LoS of the frost as much as possible and when e closes distance, dragonsbreath and fireball+scorch big damage.

A good fire mage will win every. Single. Time. Stealing barrier and instant casts without the reliance on novas is game breaking 1v1, and frost has to get through CS, DB, and impacts just to get a cast off to do any damage.

Also just now read Jkspiritlinks post, and he's 100% correct. I forgot about brain freeze even, but even without LoS the fire mage will win.

fire mage. More ways to stop the frost mage, doesn't need to hard cast ever to do good damage, cauterize.

Why does this guy think the frost mage would block anything else?

Both need to shatter for damage, frost will easily generate fingers of frost and has an extra nova. They will blink one of our novas and we HAVE to juke them to get a shatter off or use cs but if you run around without cs you are in bad shape even if they don't trinket anything you put on them. Our mage ward will break us out of one of the snares every 30 sec but it isn't enough to compensate for the incredibly low damage fire does to frost. It is mutual though, mages don't do a lot of damage to other mages I could stay alive for several minutes without heals against a mage.

Who ever wins the spell steal way wins. Usually the fire mage with DB-> Sheep-> Spell Steal spam-> Rof -> Shatter

Neither have effective healing besides evocate. CS+DF is on a 30 seconds CD and there are only 2 mitigating possiblities: Iceblock (fire gets only one) and trinket (2 min CD). If fire LoS's, frost just keeps Ice Barrier, Mana Shield, and Mage Ward up forever and never takes damage, coming out only to CS-DF: hardcast FB+IL=1/4-1/2 fire mage's health. Neither will ever get off a successful shatter without CS, the difference being frost can use two IBs, has FFO to keep fire mage from pillar humping (the slow is too strong and wasting blink=gg). Combust is also worthless mage vs mage.

Assuming equal skill you just can't compete vs Cold Snap and deep freeze. Frost mage will win. As a sidenote, lol@LoS, fire mage has no CDs to wait on (that are less than a couple minutes), frost has several CDs <=30 seconds, and stall always, always favors the player with more CDs (see rogues).

Also, spellsteal was a pretty dumb idea. Every single cast is a GCD, and you're as likely to grab arcane brilliance as anything else. While you waste GCDs on that the frost mage can cast CoC and ice lance without giving away his frost tree: that ice lance will eat through an ice barrier, even if you're lucky enough to steal it. Plus it's a total mana hog. Spellsteal is great for big abilities (HoF, PW:S) when the cost of reapplying is higher than that of stealing (or reapplication is impossible), but arcane brilliance, mana shield, and mage ward will all be a huge net loss.

like most people said RNG is the winner. it is very hard to say who wins more. even if one spec wins slightly more, it can still regularly be beaten.

Also, spellsteal was a pretty dumb idea. Every single cast is a GCD, and you're as likely to grab arcane brilliance as anything else.

My 6,500 duels vs your 30 beg to differ.

Wrong Spellsteal is the most importnat spell used in a mirror 1v1. Theres no way for a fire mage to kill a frost mage with shields up.

Can't tell if trolling or just a 1500 bad. You are so bad at this game that you honestly think a frost mage is going to randomly block nothing instead of combustion? Just wow.. you know so little about this game you shouldn't really comment. Yeah I proved you right when I made you aware that mages don't use block without thinking when you thought otherwise. rofl

830 duel wins 130 losses and it's not like I care about those statistics anyway I have forfeit more duels than I have actually lost because of arena queue/ someone testing something.

Look at my stats before you go off and make yourself look like an idiot I got 2500+ in 3v3 when fire was supposedly "bad" and as comps that even post buff fire mages refuse to run
