I feel like I'm becoming weaker [unholy dk]
|
So usually I am the one giving advice here, but now I'm seeking some :P
I feel as though my raid dps has dropped over the past month (I haven't gotten an upgrade and have been at 396 for over a month). The group I am in has gotten much better over the last month because I have gone from top every fight to having some competition and even being as low as 4th. The dps is just a lot better, but even with them being better my numbers previously would still beat them and I can nolonger obtain them. One example is warlord zonozz, I used to get 50k+ there and usually hanging around 54-55 and now I cannot even break 50k. As an unholy Dk I know that the longer the fight the better we do against other classes, so am I right to believe my dps is suffering due to he other dps being so much better and things dieing so much faster? I do realize in the 10man environment unholy is mid to low end dps anyways, but it seems odd to not even be able to achieve older numbers :/. thanks to anyone that can give some insight! |

You probably got into it playing it correctly, as you progressed you thought you could !@#$ %^-* without caring, slowly deteriorating your skill/dps (getting lazy) and now you're starting to notice it.
Don't worry same thing happened to me, i reread multiple guides and realized i had gotten lazy and would festering strike whenever except for reserving it for frost/blood runes...might not be your problem but you should go back through your rotation and break down every part to see what you might have been slacking off on. I'm not denying your skill at all, I'm just saying it's possible that you're cutting corners...and it's done subconsciously so you as a person can't have an effect over except for trying your best to break the habit. |

All I can really do is second the above poster's suggestions. Also, read some more guides and practice a little more. It might help to have a guild buddy do some runs with you and help you analyze your current playstyle.

DKs don't have anything that makes this true, though. A 3 minute fight would be little different from a 9 minute fight. However, you're not that far off. If your raid's low DPS improves significantly and you're ending fights faster, your personal DPS on a fight like Zonozz is almost guaranteed to drop. The reason is this: You probably used to get a lot of black phases because everyone else's DPS was too low to kill him quickly. Now that people do more damage, he's dying a lot faster, but your own DPS hasn't grown. I don't think it's gone down, either - I think you're only doing less damage because you're seeing fewer black phases. I'm going to hazard a guess that another fight you're seeing this on is Madness. Higher raid DPS = faster kills = less time you're doing 100% extra damage to his appendages. If you're seeing the same drop on all fights, then nevermind. |

The reason why this might be the case is that Summon Gargoyle and Unholy Frenzy are on 3 min CDs, if you're using Rotting Skull, that's on a 1.5 min CD.....so UH "bursts" once every 3 minutes. So I suppose the longer the fight, the more opportunities you'd have to "burst" w Gargoyle/UF/trinket. I've also noticed that on some of the earlier fights (Zon'ozz, Yorshaj, etc.), I've become complacent, meaning I don't stay on top of my runes/etc., so I make some poor choices without thinking about em. |

I appriciate the feedback! It is not a skill depleating thing because I enjoi being competative with everyone else. I knew that my madness dps has gone down due to pretty much 0 cataclysm uptime, but did not even think about black phase zonozz uptime going down.
I also believe that there are pretty significant differences for an unholy dk on a 3minute fight opposed to a 3:30 fight (having access to 2 chances at unholy frenzy+gargoyal uptime). Also on fights where bloodlust/heroism/timewarp are blown off the bat or interfear with your frenzy timing you have to hold onto your frenzy till after that wears off which further pushes your chances to pop all of your cooldowns, so if the fight is shorter I believe other many other classes would do better than unholy considering our cooldowns are extremely powerful. |
