Dig sites pop according to zone or spot?
|
Would letting the dig sites in Uldum stack be a bad thing to do due to the fact that once one has popped there it reduces your chance to get another another dig site to pop there by 1? or if there are 2 up there would reduce my chances for a dig site to pop by 2 now? etc etc...

Sites seem to spawn purely at random. I've cleared a site and had another spawn in the same zone before I left to go to another site. As mentioned elsewhere, there is a specified number per continent, and that appears to be the only control over RNG.

I actually do the opposite. I start at Hyjal and work my way south. I tend not to go back north unless it's a mostly east-west flight. by the time I get to Uldum there 2-4 dig sites, and I often get another Uldum while working the existing ones. |

You are correct saying that if there are two up it would reduce your chances by 2. The problem here is that "maximizing" your chances is actually affecting it by a very small margin. IIRC, there are 69 dig sites on Kalimdor, of which 16 are Tol'Vir. That means 23.19% of the sites in Kalimdor are Tol'Vir. Sites are chosen from the set of sites not already up, so when you clear a site it's actually choosing from among the 66 remaining sites. (I want to say it won't re-select the site you just cleared, but I'm not sure if that's true). That means when you clear a site with no tol'vir sites currently up, the chance of a Tol'Vir site is 24.24%. That's a change of 1.05% over the expected. OTOH, when you have (for instance) 1 Tol'vir site up the chance of a tol'vir site is 22.72%, which is less than a 1% reduction. A small change. OTOH, Dig sites will approximate the expected random distribution over the long term. I've got a small sample (322), and I tend to dig Tol'Vir right off. I've got 75 Tol'vir sites. Which puts me at 23.29%, or .1% above the expected average. Simply put, YMMV for the short term, but over the long term you'll be where you're expected. |

you will spend more time traveling, and less time digging tol'virs by trying to force more sites to open in uldum. depending on how far along you are in archy, you might actually have a better chance of getting another to open up in uldum after clearing the one there. i.e.- you have already finished all rares for fossil and NE (yes Tigg, it is a very small chance of that happening. but it does happen)
looking over the post above me again, sometimes the like button just isnt enough. awesome post. |
