So here's my idiot noob question; when should I stop stacking Mastery as Ret? I'm currently sitting at 20.01, which converts to 42% additional holy damage, but only 7.32% crit.
When I think about the 32% crit my hunter alt has, it makes me want to cry. man tears. |

There is this program called Simulationcraft.
Download it, put up full raid buffs and set it to scale mastery, haste, and crit and do 10k iterations. When your stat weights for haste or crit>mastery then you can focus on them. BUT NOTE that stat weights constantly change and for ret especially points where haste/crit>mastery are few and far between. So you would need to run the program after every upgrade and more often than not be favoring mastery. It would be easier to just keep on favoring mastery but if you REALLY want to min/max this is how you do it. |

Mastery > Crit > Haste in all situations. Forever, and always.
More extreme Holy damage. BTW, crit is low for Paladins to begin with, which is why you have less than 10%. |
Depending on your gear level this is not always true. |

Now now, lets got go around throwing that "forever" word about! Come MoP it's looking like Haste will become pretty desirable. |
So here's my idiot noob question; when should I stop stacking Mastery as Ret? I'm currently sitting at 20.01, which converts to 42% additional holy damage, but only 7.32% crit. Also remember Hunters (and every agi class) have a !@#$ TON of agi... and what is the secondary function of agi.. to give crit. so generally speaking any agi class has high crit based on the fact that their main stat they stack also provides.. you guessed it.. Crit. Paladins, warriors and DK's do not GET crit from strength which is their main stat as a result their crit is rolled into their talent points and/or glyphs. and we focus our other secondary stats on other things like mastery/haste/banana's I just looked at my shaman which has 6440 agi, which gives her 22.74% crit from that agi (she has 31.72% crit total) and 16034 AP Barfus in ret gear has 6669 strength and 11.04% crit and 13763 AP My hunter has 7064 Agi, 34.78% crit and 14468 AP So you can see Agi based classes have a boat ton more crit then strength based, but agi classes generally don't have crit rolled into talents. *all the numbers are from armory I didn't look them up based on class buffs like hawk, or kings, or might or anything along those lines. The value of haste has gone up due to the censure buff, so there's some debate about crit vs haste, but I've never seen a geared ret paladin take haste over crit. |
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3657441833#7 Crit>mastery at the 372/391/410 gear levels. |
Pretty sure the 410 ilevel shows mastery winning by .02. |
