Windows 7 v 10.7.3 performance
|
Hey guys,
It has been a while since I have traveled for an extended period of time (about 12 months) and last time I went away I read that WoW was better to play through Bootcamp than through OSX. Is this still the case? I remember reading that they were meant to be making huge improvements to the drivers etc so that it was about on par, but I am not 100% certain. If anyone could shed any light on then matter that would be awesome! Thanks |

If you're getting identical FPS in Windows Anything vs. OS X, you're doing something wrong on the Windows side. As much as I hate admitting it, the OS X port just isn't as capable as the Windows client is, due mainly to things outside Blizzard's control such as the graphics frameworks and kernel extensions (drivers) for the video cards.
The only time you'll notice identical framerates in both is when you've got 4 GB of RAM or less, which is where you start paging out to disk in both OSes, especially if you use the 64-bit clients. |

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I'm using 64 bits clients on each side too (DirectX 11 on Windows). Latest AMD 64 bits video drivers on Windows 7 too. And I've got 8 GB of RAM.
I've got mostly 60 fps (capped) with default high settings on both side (which means everything on high but liquid on good), except in a few cata zones (like when flying through Twilight Highlands or some middle part of Uldum) where it sometimes drop to 45-50. |

Uncap your FPS for a short while - you'll find the Windows client beats the OS X one hands down and has more headroom. That's a simple fact that's been proven time and time again (and believe me I ain't the most happy about it since I use a Mac Pro and prefer OS X).
