Thrall v. Garrosh: the end of the duel

My theory how this warchief storyline plays out: Thrall and Garrosh once had a duel that was interrupted by the Scourge. After Garrosh makes a mess of being warchief, Thrall re-challenges him and they finish the duel.

Garrosh defeats Thrall, as he almost did the first time. The onlookers are so stunned that Garrosh kills their beloved Thrall that they attack Garrosh en masse and kill him. (There's your raid on Orgrimmar.)

With both warchiefs dead, the Horde then holds an election, allowing all players interested to vote for the Next Warchief of the Horde.

Thrall has gained power 10x since the start of wrath Garrosh will probably be dead very soon after the fight starts. Plus Thrall won't re-challenge him he was aggravated at that time and didn't have people he loves. Given Thrall he won't risk leaving Aggra behind with his son or daughter just to settle a petty argument. Garrosh would but Thrall will not.

Thrall didn't do so well n the Hour of Twilight.

The fact that he even needed escorts in the first place is testament to that.

the thing about the first duel was that garrosh was going 100% and thralll was thinking about ninjas the whole time. thrall was not being serious the first time, he didnt use his shaman powers, he didnt go all out, he barely used his main weapon that was super effective against plate mail....hammers are way more dangerous to plate users than a sword or axe due to physics and armor mechanics.

Course, we're assuming Garrosh doesn't change at all, between now and his raid...

For all we know, he could go all ZOMGOLDGODS on us *eyeroll*

If Garrosh won that'd be the end of it.

He defeated Thrall in honorable combat.

No angry mob. No bloody vengeance. Nothing.

Garrosh won as per the laws of the challenge.

And won against his challenger, Thrall, who instigated the exchange.

Thrall would die, and Garrosh would remain Warchief.

That'd be the end of the matter.

That would totally go against all the of the Horde's beliefs.

Indeed, per Horde traditions that is how it would end. I'm sure a good portion of Orcs would be... "WTF." Some would care less and go about their days as if nothing happened.

Yeah. And who knows, there may even be a civil war.

But the rebels would fly in the face of tradition and honor.

So...

Because he fights againts old gods and DW minions. Even an aspect lose to them (Alextrazas can not win againts Deathwing, Deathwing itself lose to Old Gods (fall to madness)). Getting stronger here because Thrall get more and more related to elements (which will power up his power as shaman).

It looks like the one who starts the war of Horde vs Garrosh is not Thrall but Voljin (as he is waiting for Garrosh to make a tiny mistake that make him considered not a good warchief --> traitor (in this case attacking Theramore)).

God I hope not.

I already got one expansion of "even though you're Alliance, help Thrall fix stuff, since apparently the entirety of the Alliance is useless."

I pray I don't get another.

I don't think it really works out for a number of reasons.

1. The Siege of Orgrimmar needs to be a lot bigger then a single boss encounter...as well as being an actual Siege rather then what amounts to a spur-of-the-moment mob.

2. The Alliance has no valid role here. They wouldn't show up just to watch a duel.

3. Garrosh's ability to defeat Thrall is questionable at best. According to all accounts, Thrall was holding back during the original duel at the start of WotLK, and he's only grown in power since.

4. While I admit there is appeal in holding an actual election for the position of Warchief, the truth is it's impractical from a game mechanics standpoint since by the time the Siege of Orgrimmar rolls around, the next expansion will be too far into development to make such a big change.

I have my own ideas for the Siege. It's fairly complex, but it boils down to Garrosh willingly joining up with a rather nasty bunch as a means of countering an increasingly successful Alliance offensive which is already leading to an invasion of Orgrimmar. As for the identity of the group in question, I prefer the Mogu but anyone aside from the Old Gods and Burning Legion would work out fine.

This act, combined with a general lack of enthusiasm for the war, prompts the other Horde leaders to decide enough is enough and rebel against the Warchief. At some point they come to a mutual understanding with the Alliance, and both factions simultaneously launch invasions of Orgrimmar. Garrosh is never challenged to a former duel, he is simply attacked by several characters of both the Horde and Alliance as well as the raid group itself.
