I ground out a lot of HoT's monday for heirlooms for my new alt. The groups were all terrible. This is what happened in the worst group.
Zoned into Well to find corpses at Queen Azshara. Got everyone ressed up and ready to go. I didn't think too much about it, because a bad healer can cause wipes on the fight, and the gear score of most people was pretty good (10,300 range). I'm quite overgeared for HoTs (ilvl397), so I'm confident it'll go just fine.
Initial pull goes ok, but nobody dps's on the hand at all, and then people suddenly start taking huge amounts of damage. I heal through the damage burst, and get everyone stabilized. When the 2nd set of adds came out, the hand was still active around 75% health remaining. At this point we've got 4 adds + the hand alive, aggro all over the place, and I begin to doubt whether it's possible to heal through this much bad. I notice the mage in my group was kiting 3 adds, and doing a decent job, so I throw him some shields, and then alternate between smiting the hand and PoHing. Get the hand down, and we kill 2 adds just in time for the next 2 to spawn. The fight continues, the warrior tank is holding aggro on one add like a boss, and ignoring everything else. 2nd hand goes down faster, I'm forced to spot heal and PoH damage from the wandering adds, but we eventually do kill all 4. By the end I've used every mana cooldown and almost every healing cooldown, and am sitting around 5% mana, but we killed it with no deaths! Damage meters show me at #3 around 4k dps, tank #2 and that awesome mage #1 with 13k.
charuo> wow, that was crazy!
Either nobody speaks english, or the fight is always that hard for them? Regardless, I figure mannoroth is a piece of cake, so I keep my mouth shut and we continue.
Trash leading up to mannoroth goes smoothly, the hunter stands away from from illidan and loses the frost buff, but I heal through it (I mentioned in party he should stand closer, he said he didn't know that and thanked me!) Varo'thane went well, dps was still really low, but he died eventually, people mostly stayed out of the green, and we started on mannoroth.
Right about this point, I remember how bad the tank was at controlling adds in the last boss fight, and I get a bad feeling about dying to a swarm of demons. He actually does ok though. He's holding onto about 1/2 the demons, while my favourite mage is kiting the other 1/2 around. 1st green fire comes out, everyone avoids it nicely, and I figure we're home free!
But, this wouldn't be the worst group of the night if something didn't go wrong! 2nd green fire comes out, and the rogue, warrior, and hunter all start taking tons of damage. I manage to lifegrip the hunter to safety, but he still doesn't move, so just dies to a different green fire. The rogue dies at mannoroths feet, having not moved an inch the whole time. The warrior lives longer, but is out of heal range and dies quickly too.
So it's me, a frost mage who is god's gift to kiting, and a giant swarm of demons. It turns out the warrior kited everything about 1/2way back to stormwind, so there is a nice lull where mr mage and myself are not getting hit much. I start madly castings PoH, hoping to stack enough shields that we can survive the demon pain train that is heading our way. Demons head for the mage first, I hit him with PW:S and flash heal for all my worth. When he's just seconds from dying, he iceblocks and sends all the demons to me. PW:S, flash heal, flash heal, flash heal, pain suppression, barrier... There is no way that I'm going to survive, but I'm doing my damnest to delay as long as possible.
Right after barrier expires, Illiden saves the day! I've never really paid attention to Gift of Sargeras, other than it makes me into a cool demon with a funny jump. But, the healing effect is more than enough to keep me alive, and the fire quickly kills the demons. Mannoroth is still around 40% health, but now with no risk of dying, the mage and myself (mostly the mage) can finish him off easily.
After the fight, I purposely delay rolling on loot to keep people in the group, and start typing about how insane that fight was, and how I can't believe we survived. It was so intense that I was super excited we got the kill, and didn't say one peep about people being terrible... just purely excitement celebrating the kill.
Oh well, at least I had fun :)
