New Router/Modem settings advice

Hi TS, this question is for anyone out there with some experience or advice on the matter, not just blues. I just installed a new router/modem combo my ISP kindly gave me as a upgrade from my very old models, and I just plugged her in and setup my new network. Apart from adjusting the admin login info& wireless network security are there any other options/setting I should consider changing/adjusting/setting?

Any useful external resources on the matter would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You might want to make sure that the ports that our games use are open in the router firewall.

I should be able to link you a guide on how to do this, but I'll first need to know the router brand and model number. You can usually find the model number on a sticker located on the bottom of the router.

Here's a link to a guide that should help: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Cisco/DPC3825/World_of_WarCraft_Downloader.htm

Port Forwarding is only for people behind very strict outbound firewalls(Universities,Military,Work) . I have the same Cisco Router/modem from Shaw, no port forwarding is required for WoW or D3 :)

For the most part, most router's don't need portforwarding to be done. However, every now and then there are cases that do require it, and it's not just strict public networks as mentioned above. The portforwarding information was provided just in case it's needed, but seeing how you haven't had any issues with the same router, I'd imagine the same results for Guinthel.

Korinthius, can you create your own thread, and post some more information about your connection?

I'm locking this thread because it is from last year.
