So based off of the recommendations here-this is the basic system I put together via newegg.

Anything here overkill? Anything I can trim the fat back on? (I'm thinking the 2TB harddrive can be lowered to 1TB or 500GB, and just get an external hard drive for photos/graphic design work).

Yes, you can trim the hard drive to a smaller size if you want to, but I'd recommend just keeping it if you do photos and graphics design work.

HyperX is not 1.5v operational voltage AFAIK, I'd recommend using something else that does.

I'd recommend i7-3770 (non-k) if budget can be stretched, otherwise, that i7 will work fine for you.

G.Skill will work.

Daggor:
Sure, link the build.

Thanks!

Are there any spots that I can cut some corners on? (I'm OK with subpar, as long as it runs...right now I'm at about 15 FPS, so anything more than that on WoW is fine.)

I'm going to check out the discount links shortly (from home, at work right now) but it's still about $300-$500 more than I was looking/able to spend.

If you want to save that much, you have to cut down on:

hard disk
SSD
graphics card

I'd recommend getting a cheaper hard drive (or even none at all and just use an external drive to save everything) and a lower-end graphics card (IE) Radeon 6770). Even then, it won't come close to saving $300.

Then next thing you can do is to cut down on SSD, but I'd strongly recommend keeping it.

You could also lower i7 into i5, if you don't mind waiting few more seconds for your professional programs to work.

its near the bottom, Narwhal sounds closest to $1500

again i'm just a worrywart and the build you suggested sounds good to a person who doesn't know much of anything about building computers, like me. Just seeing if you notice anything from there that would be better

Well, it does cost more because it comes with more powerful graphics card and power supply, but it ignores what the user needs.

For example, i5-3570k is completely unnecessary if you would never overclock your CPU, same with expensive ASUS motherboard. The 7850 is a nice card, but if you are going to spend that much money on a 7850, you could get a customized 7850 which performs a lot better for just a little more, specifically, this card:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7850_PCS_Plus/33.html

While having more wattage for a power supply is always nice, unless you want to run SLi / very powerful graphics card, going beyond 500W is not necessary.

Otherwise, build is very similar to what I suggest.

So using the guide this is what I came up with for $1100 and my budget is $1200 (it will be close with shipping) Are there any crappy parts on this rig or is it good to go?

No crappy parts, they all look great. I assume you intend to overclock your CPU? If you aren't actually planning to, I'd consider downgrading the CPU and motherboard, and consider buying an SSD.

Yeah I want to overclock it to 4ghz sooner rather then later but yeah a ssd is in my immediate plans in the coming months thanks for the quick response

Do note that if you will get an SSD later, you have to take the effort of having to reinstall everything as you can't just move what you have on the hard disk onto the SSD

Titanrage:

Yes, Build 2 can easily run these games.

Brommander:

I can't really recommend MK II as they are based on old Sirtec base, not that they are that terrible, but certainly not the same level of quality as MK III (which is based on Seasonic).

I'd avoid refurbished hard drives, as they are mechanical, and thus, has a definite finite life.

If you won't overclock, as noted in my guide, save $ and go with a B75 motherboard.

would you suggest taking out the 2 refurbished HDDs for a TB HDD and a SSD?

moreover, on HDDs, will literally any 1 TB HDD do? because I see the start off at around $70... or would that be too cheap? (if paired with an SSD)

Yeah.

Literally any 1TB will do, as a data drive, speed is not critical. I would recommend those Seagate 5900RPM drives.
