Do warrior tanks need hit YES or NO
|
Edited by Rnenna on 6/8/12 12:59 PM (PDT)
The reason why I ask is because ppl on my server said we don't, but on the sticky the person (warrior tank guild) the person said we need 8% hit. So... im confused here. DO we need hit or not? Also, what about expertise?

Hit and expertise are only used as a threat stat, you don't want a lot but you don't want none. Most of the time I see people with about 2% hit and 5-11 expertise.

if you are having threat issues then yes. if you have no problem holding threat then no. my tanks are super geared and after hitting ctc i have started reforging into hit/exp for the dps boost.

No.

Your gonna wanna cap expertise before you ever even worry about hit, even if you do get a threat set going.

Due to the vengeance mechanic, tanks no longer use hit/expertise as threat stats. Generally speaking, it isn't necessary, so hit/expertise are now almost purely dps stats for tanks.
The real question is, do you want to do more dps as a tank? Yes? Stack a little more hit/expertise to soft cap (8% hit, 26 expertise). No? Stack stam, pound for pound, it's your best stat past CTC cap. In case you're not aware, vengeance is a tank ability that increases their attack power up to a maximum of 10% of their stamina. Because of vengeance, a tank may miss 5 times in a row, but when he hits, he's going to *HIT*. It was designed to allow tanks to scale their threat with dps as gear scales (tank gear always tends to have stamina :]) |

Currently, not much. However, its looking like we'll have to cap hit and expertise in MoP.

Keep in mind all of this advice from the people in this thread will change once MoP hits.
In Mop, you'll likely need hit/exp cap as a warrior to stay alive because more hits = more rage = more survivability in the long run. This isn't 100% certain yet, though. |
Whoa there. Just trying to point out that things are going to change in 2 to 3 months. I'm sure we'll have people on the forums asking for some advice. |

You don't need any hit or exp. up until I got my t13 gloves (they have hit on them) I had 0% hit. I reforge away from hit and exp as much as I can. They're pointless stats for tanks, all you need is *enough* threat, and to survive. And you can do that with 0 hit and 0 exp.
Even if you manage to outcap the combat table, you'd want to start changing gems for stamina (while maintaining ctc) before reforging into hit or exp. And even in full 410/416 gear, if you got all of your gems changed to stam it is not possible to be CTC capped. Ergo you would never reforge into hit/exp, not this tier anyway. |

One you reach your mitigation cap, you can stack hit. I stack hit on my prot warrior. I am about 6% and 22 exp and I pull great dps as a tank. In heroic DS, I usually am doing 5k more dps then out blood dk, and some fights I am doing over 30k dps. It helps get bosses down faster if your guild is having problems with an enrage timer, it makes sure that you never lose aggro, and if you are already mitigation capped, there is no reason why you shouldn't stack hit or exp.
