Best Healer class?

So, I am trying to make a goblin healer, but can be either a shaman or a priest. Which is the best!?!?! Any opinions/facts/help will be very appreciated, and I also have a paladin with healer off-spec so any help there would be appreciated as well. Thanks. :)

PVP - Shaman and disc are both great
PVE- Not a lot of experience but both have good potential. I think shaman is a little stronger. Priest is helpful because you get 2 healing classes in one. Shamans on the other hand have the ability to tank heal and then group heal immediately after so you are picking a great class regardless! :) |

For PVE both classes are very good. At this point in Cata all specs of healers can perform well at all healing roles. It only matters if you a raiding heroic progression.
Both Disc and Holy can tank or raid heal and in 10 man raiding both healers are tank/raid healers. That being said......we have no idea what healing will be like at max level in MoP. I'm sure there will be a FTM healing spec. Roll both and see how you like their play styles...healing and dpsing. You will be lvling and doing dailies and healing specs do laughable dps. And many raiding guilds want their heals to have viable dps specs and gear. Most ten man raid teams roll 3 healers, but ended up 2 healing most encounters in Cata. |

Ok. I don't do alot of pvp, but will hopefully start at some point. My guild does raids frequently, and the two main healers is a goblin priest and a orc shaman, and both are amazing at healing. Does anyone know of some healing abilities that stands out on either class? I have a shaman (level 20) and a priest (level 15) just haven't played them much.

Priest for arenas to get in mana burns on the other healer. Shammys are also nice for cc. Apples are nice, but so are oranges...it is just whichever you like better.
With how easy DS is now that they buffed the buff you get by quite a bit, just play which ever class you like the best. My holy priest works nice because the chakras enable me to do well as a tank healer or a raid healer. Still, Holy is preferred to raid heal and disc is preferred to tank heal. I see tons of priest healers in lfr so "maybe" they have the edge since a lot of people are rolling them. I don't know enough about shammys to comment on their status. |

If you go priest you will be overpowered in all PvE and PvP on a consistent basis. Shaman generally gets nerfed or performs weakly in some instances. A priest is good for any occasion and always invited to a raid. I would know because I have both a Shaman and Priest. Priest dominates.

I have noticed on some alliance servers that priests are asked for a lot, especially for DS. I think I am going to try a priest. Now to just get through the beginning story lol. I totally failed on my goblin mage lol

No, you'll simply always be viable; that's the nature of a two-spec healing class. Priests haven't been considered overpowered since early T11, when PW:B was 30% DR. Even then, they were only considered overpowered because of PW:B; prior to the shield buffs and the HC buff, both specs were just about worthless. |

Well, is there a healer that is OP? Like, in the healing sense? Also, for a priest, what are the best specs for healing? I've heard that disc and holy are good, disc for dungeons and holy for 10 man raids? Or is that the other way around?

Ok, thanks. So, both are as good as the other in both dungeons, heroics, etc. and raids correct? What is ya'll's preferences?

Our preferences honestly won't matter to you, nor is this a decision we can make for you. It's all about personal taste. I can't stand the taste of licorice (makes me want to puke), nor the smell of lavender (induces a migraine), but other people like those things. It varies from person to person. The same is true with WoW.
So long as you enjoy the class and the spec - and are doing your job of healing people - there's no wrong answer. |

... I guess that's true, but that's a horrible way to answer Kit's question. Holy is mana-limited, strictly reactive, and heavily throughput based. It excels at burst of any kind, but must be very careful with its mana. Disc is time-limited, highly proactive, and absorption based. It excels at preventing deaths, and it has great synergy with all four other healing specs, but it requires cooldowns to compete with the natural burst of the other specs. |

Disc seems slightly better, but cooldowns are awful. I am planning on taking both disc and holy, but now the question of which one first? from lvls 15 to 30 I plan on healing dungeons. So is there a better spec for those lvls?

They are both just fine. If you know the fights go disc with the archangel/atonement spec because it is fun :-) If you don't know them as well holy is easier to work with. You have more "heals on the run" as it were and you are not as dependant on pre-sheilding people. They are both really solid, so it's up to you.

Ok, thanks :) and newb question: I am looking for spirit, intellect, and stamina for all healers right? I'm so used to tanking that I am having to renew myself with the other stats for the other classes :P

The only thing you should actually go out of your way to get is Intellect, since Stamina comes naturally on gear anyway. Some pieces will have Spirit & some won't, but don't worry about it because you won't need it that much while leveling. |

I've actually been leveling a shaman, and really enjoy the healing style. Granted, I'm only 75 now. |
