4.3 Fury PvP: Spec break down
|
Arms and fury are very different specs which come with different styles of game play. The main pvp spec since for ever has been Arms because of its utility, damage and its unique mechanics. However, I've come to shed some light on a different style of pvp with Fury. I'm not saying it's better than arms, but if you've been playing a warrior as long as some of us, you might want to try something new. Also, probably important to note this is all done in theory and not with actual numbers. This is purely meant for fun and to offer an alternative to the mainstream.
So lets start with a spec: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#LG0fZhbrssdkofd:zkmfrwmz0 This is the most basic of basic specs I could come up with that seemed simple enough. In this particular spec the main focus is on setting yourself up to not only push out decent damage, but also to keep you in the fight as long as possible striking a balance between self healing and offensive abilities. So lets talk about the abilities in the tree and how they can be used to achieve our goals. In the first tier of talents we've got Blood Craze which when proc'd restores 3% of your total health over 5 seconds, pretty straight forward there. The other talent we've got here is Cruelty which increases your blood thirst's crit chance by 10%. It's important that you get this talent because bloodthirst is your main ability as a fury warrior. Second tier stuff is Booming Voice, Rude Interruption, and Piercing Howl. Booming Voice This talent is particularly important because of rage generation. As a fury warrior, you won't be able to Charge and the alternative is Intercept which costs 10 rage. That aside, we're warriors! Who doesn't want spare rage? Rude Interruption I don't really know how to feel about this talent. What it does is that on a successful interrupt you gain %5 increased damage, which is nice but note that its on successful interupts meaning that if you get fake casted and waste a pummel this talent becomes useless for 10 seconds. The alternative to this would be taking 1 point out and putting it into Battle Trance in the first tier. Piercing Howl A 10yd AoE slow. Pretty self explanatory there but just to be safe; this is particularly useful for situations where your target is just out of melee range but not quite away from you yet. Moving right along to the third tier of talents. Flurry Every time you crit someone you gain 25% attack speed for 3 swings. Once we get into talking about stat priorities this will become more obvious but this particular buff has HUGE up time as long as you're attacking something. Death Wish This ability causes you to become enraged and increases your damage by 20%. Without the glyph it also causes you to take 5% increased damage from all sources so MAKE SURE you glyph for it. Glyphed it becomes a 20% damage increase that costs 10 rage to pop. Enrage Your attacks have a 9% chance to proc an enrage effect that increases your damage by 10%. This is important because you can only use Raging Blow while enraged, meaning the more things you have to make you enrage, the better. Now we're onto the fourth tier talents. Die by the Sword Increases your parry chance by 100% for 8 seconds when you get taken to 20%. Remember you can't parry from behind so make sure you keep your targets in front of you while you use these last few seconds to pop your defensive stuff until your healer can get you up. Parry is useless against casters (including hunters) so this is another one of those theoretical talents that I'm not sure you absolutely need. Raging Blow This is the biggest damage ability a fury warrior has. The unfortunate thing about it is that you can only use it while enraged meaning the proc from the previous tier, Berserker Rage, and Death Wish. The awesome thing about this ability is that is uses BOTH weapons and causes 100% weapon damage from BOTH of them. Rampage Increases everyone within 100yds crit chance by 5% AND increases yours by an additional 2%. This is an absolute necessity for sure. Heroic Fury Arms warriors have a root breaker called Bladestorm. Fury warriors get this talent instead which while it doesn't make you immune to cc for 6 seconds, it DOES refresh Intercept meaning you can double charge someone who has just rooted you and make them question what just happened. A must have for pvp. |

*BOOP* "Now arriving on the fifth floor of the talent tree"
Furious Attacks This is our Mortal Strike. Instead of being a button we push, its a proc that comes from our autoswing sort of like a rogue using wound poison, except without the damage and it doesn't proc on specials... So not like a rogue at all. Intensify Rage Reduces the cooldown on majorly important abilities (Zerk, Reck, and Death Wish) by 20%. Sixth tier talent tree tips. Blood Surge Your blood thirst has a 30% chance to proc a FREE -- INSTANT-- 20% dmg buffed slam. You need this. Skirmisher Intercept has a long cooldown. So does heroic leap. This reduces them both by 10 and 20 seconds respectively. Final tier Titan's Grip Lets you look like the beast you are. By that I mean, it lets you carry two 2h weapons. SECONDARY TALENTS First tier arms tree War Academy Increases your Raging Blow, Slam and Victory Rush damage by 15%. Field Dressing Increases healing received by 6% and SELF HEALS by 20%. Second tier arms tree Second Wind Procc'd self heal whenever you're stunned or immobilized which is all that ever happens in pvp anyway. Deep Wounds Your crits cause your target to bleed for 48% of average weapon damage over 6 seconds. Free damage proc ftw. you forgot
Incite Rank 3 Increases the critical strike chance of your Heroic Strike by 15%, and gives your Heroic Strike criticals a 100% chance to cause the next Heroic Strike to also be a critical strike. These guaranteed criticals cannot re-trigger the Incite effect. is a very good option as well |

I don't know what game you play, but when I go out there I hit HS all the damn time. Incite has been a great investment, but you do lose your HP buffs. I've been at 4.7k resi for a while and haven't had survivability issues so I went for a more damage oriented spec: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#LG0cZcbrssdkofdZb This is one I would only recommend to people who are really comfortable with what they're doing in PvP and their HP/Resi. I'm having a blast with it and I do very well with it (just went 17 kills 2 deaths without a healer last BG) but if you're still in Ruthless gear I would go with what you recommended. Also, it's about damn time someone made this! Fury PvP'ers, unite! A question: Are you going to make a Fury PvP sticky for the actual fighting separately? I could make that if you need, or you could just add it into this thread. |

I wouldn't give up Battle Trance for Rude Interruption personally as a TG spec. It goes a long way in keeping your Rage up. Saving 20-30 Rage on your followup attack is pretty nice.
I haven't been missing Piercing Howl as much as I thought I would, since anyone that tries to kite me is always out of range anyways. Maybe in Arenas it's nice, but if you're playing Fury in Arenas this season, you can't be too serious about rating. |
Personally I didn't even have Battle Trance until I was full ruthless with a mix of Cataclysm. The HP boon of Blood Craze is awesome and the damage of Rude Int. is great.
Piercing Howl is absolutely critical for Arenas (2v2 and 3v3 here) and in Battlegrounds it is amazing. There's no reason not to get it. It's a ranged version of Hamstring that lasts longer and is amazing for staying on target. It's great for running down shamans and druids. |
Also, it's about damn time someone made this! Fury PvP'ers, unite! Next sticky about that is going up tomorrow. Thanks for your input/support. Incite is a viable alternative, but I dunno, rage seems to be an issue for me sometimes so I don't really use HS enough for it to work for me. I wouldn't give up Battle Trance for Rude Interruption personally as a TG spec. It goes a long way in keeping your Rage up. Saving 20-30 Rage on your followup attack is pretty nice. I like your note about interruption and battle trance. I didn't really like the slam against fury in arena though. It's not THAT bad lol! |
If you're doing that either copy/paste this into it or link it. Most people want one stop for their stickies.
It basically depends on if you're getting hit or not. 9/10 times you will be getting targeted for "lol it's that nub Fury warrior!" at which point you can annihilate them with your near infinite rage. Really in PvP I always have rage, never don't. |

Eh, I used to use it but since I've specc'd out of it I don't find I miss it that much honestly. Between Charge, Intercept, Heroic Leap, Heroic Fury-> Intercept I don't have too many problems keeping on a target (except those pesky Fire Mages with their Blazing Speed). |
Fair point, well made. |

Gemming, enchanting, and reforging are basically the same as arms.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2592648205?#2 The only main difference fury needs 8%, but you get a bonus 3% just for being fury in the first place so there isn't a need to actually switch it up from the arms format. Tactics As a fury warrior we don't get charge meaning the best way to open a fight is with a shout and an intercept. Shouts generate 30 rage, Intercept costs 10, deals damage and stuns your target for 2.5 seconds. From there get Hamstring up and spam Bloodthirst until you get an enrage proc or get above 55 rage. Heroic Strike at above 50 rage while you're not enraged or when everything else is on CD during an enrage and you have more than 55 rage. While enraged use Raging Blow on CD, it's huge damage and hits with both weapons. Slam procs take priority over Bloodthirst so keep that in mind. So basically the priority scale should look something like this: Un-enraged Bloodthirst >Slam proc > HS (above 55 rage) Enraged Raging Blow > Slam proc > Bloodthirst > HS (55-60 rage) Someone brought up Colossus Smash and I think its more of a situational thing like it is for arms. Mostly just use it against plate wearers or in line with CD's for more burst. Strategy If you get rooted and your target starts to get away don't be affraid to pop Heroic Fury and get back at them. The more you stay on your target the more pressure starts to build up meaning more chance they'll make mistakes. You can also use it to reset intercept if you need to get back into a fight just after you kill a target; it's a 30 second cooldown which means intercept will be up again 10 seconds before heroic fury comes back up meaning your double charge will still be ready to go once you engage a target. Another cool thing we have to work with is 40 second heroic leaps down from a minute. Not only can you double intercept a target but you can also leap to them every 40 seconds on top of that. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that is WAY more mobility than an arms warrior gets. Other classes in the game are still the same as they have always been. You won't beat hunters or mages that know what they're going but you can go toe to toe with most melee classes and win as long as you pay attention to your self heals and defensive cds. I put together a short demo just to show the basic idea: http://youtu.be/O6Ca9nBvQaI Last thing to note is trinketing things. Never trinket a root or fear, you have zerker rage and heroic fury for that. Leaves us with only a few things to pay attention to: Warlock -- deathcoils Mage -- poly or deep freeze is a good option too Druid -- cyclone Hunter -- trap/scattershot depending on how quickly you can react DK -- hungering cold Warrior -- throwdown Rogue -- doesn't matter... probably kidney priest -- ONLY if your zerker is down, trinket fear and ONLY if there isn't something important to save it for Shaman -- hex Pally -- Hammer of justice (you can break repentance with zerker) There is a lot you can learn from arms tactics too in the other guide posted here on the forum. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2592648205?#1 |
